Using the article in the 1st Motor Racing Replica News (Jan/Feb 1991) as a guide, I finally have got the gumption to build a model of the Bugatti Type 32, the "Tank Car". Yes Raul, I've gone totally nuts...it's verifiable. As ya see, there's a bunch of louvers... I'm using .020 plastic for the body panels, was thinkin' about printers plate...but decided plastic was a better medium. Biggest problem I'm encountering is the louvers for this car... I've never done louvers before, does anyone out there have any tips or suggestions on how to make'em? gratefull for any help ya can bring my way

Got the Little Red Wagon painted and decalled. paint is 1965 Dodge Ruby Red Metallic from Scalefinishes Decals are from the kit, not too bad for kit decals now just gotta wait for everything to dry/gas out than can put it all together...

Well, I glued the dash in place to help anchor the door hinges on the body...got ahead of myself a little bit cuzz i hadn't painted or detailed the dash yet. so decided to leave the doors off til after painting, thus allowing my little stubby fingers room to finish the dash. I'll be attaching the doors with Pacers "Canopy Glue"...just like white glue only stronger and it won't mess up the finish ifn't it wanders on to it! the distributor was purchased from http://www.scalemodelingbychris.com

Sorry to hear about your painting problems, stuff happens... At least you can get Slixx decals for your Hemi under glass...I'm stuck with the kit decals I've got two sets, hopefully they'll behave themselves...will find out this afternoon got the LRW painted yesterday, used Scalefinishes 1965 Dodge Ruby Red metallic - really nice paint

Got this thing started... decided to build it as Bill "Maverick" Golden ran it at Lions Drag Strip in January 1965 ooh purty red plastic with lots of flash... nice little pre-wired distributor... aluminum injector stacks... a little tweakin' to the exhaust, pipes way too short in kit... powerplant and drive train coming together... chassis nearing completion... fixing the front end... fixing the rear end getting closer to priming and paint... my only complaint so far is the amount of flash present with this kit and the opening doors! I hate kits that come with opening doors!!! It has taken a lot of sanding, etc to get these doors to fit correctly in the openings...apprehensive about how they will look when i finally stick them on the body. i will be glueing the doors shut once everything is painted, decals applied and clearcoated more to come...

Any ideas on scratchbuilding headers?
curt raitz replied to charlzrocks's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
here it is... can be found at: http://www.spazstix.com similar to the alclad chrome...i prefer it cuz i've never had much luck with alclad chrome i use Tamiya TS-14 (gloss black) as a basecoat and apply numerous "light coats" of the chrome spray and i repeat "numerous light coats" good luck -
Poison Ivy...heh! I love it...your models are an inspiration I wanna know what set up you use to photograph your work...fantastic photos c'ya curt

Your timing on this is perfect... I'm building the Little Red Wagon for the Loins Drag Strip build off and came to the same conclusion as you...dem pipes ain't long enough thought about bending aluminum tubing and or using solder, but decided to retain the upper part of the kits exhaust (lot of cleaning up to do on it) and add aluminum tubing past the cross braces on both headers. if didn't work, i would go with the tubing and/or solder. here is how i did it step by step: used 5 minute epoxy to hold brass pins attached aluminum tubing with 5 minute epoxy (stronger joint than super glue) painted with Spaz chrome... but still need a little cleanup on the seams between the kit parts and tubing presto - bingo all cleaned up and ready to do some wheel standin' just another option... -

curt raitz replied to 69*Goat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
perfect scenario for the "white plastic spoon" test test your ideas on a white plastic spoon to see if the results are what you are lookin' for... sure beats havin to strip the paint off of body... does sound interesting...clear orange o'er pearl white -

Do not get discouraged by some of the exquisite models you see posted on this forum. If you really look around there are some "turds" posted as well! Bottom line...build for yourself and don't be afraid to let the rest of us see'em...and remember we are our own worst critic!! It's not necessary to build a super detailed model to compete either. One of the most competitive fields at a model contest is "out-of-the-box", just build what came in the box! The NNL format is a great show to display your models without being a "competition" so to speak. It's a good time to join other modelers and bullshit about model cars. NNL's do have awards, i.e. "People's Choice", staff picks, etc...and maybe a photo of your model shows up in a "model car magazine" Decals are one of my favorite and dreaded parts of model building. Time has to be set aside without any distractions and ya gotta play around with all of the "setting solutions" out there. (no substitute for experience) have fun...

I was able to get two things checked off my "Bucket List" this year...both involving Pebble Beach. Played a round of golf there in March and made it to the Concours d'Elegance @ Pebble Beach this past Sunday. What a fantastic display of automobiles and people assembled on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach. more photos can be found at... http://public.fotki.com/crtr8z/concourse-deeleganc/
