  1. Bernard lookin' good...really like the color and the fact you sprayed dullcote o'er it was a bold move, but it worked! I've always enjoy the color combinations you choose for your models... lookin' forward to seein' it "UnderGlass"
  2. After you do 2 - 3 of'em ya get a lot better at it, plus the exterior finish on this body was really smooth and I'm good! I did not find them - they found me! They showed up one day in an UPS box with a bunch of Watson Indy roadster kits. The guy who sent them said he had them for at least 20 years and does not remember where he got'em I really doubt they can be found anywhere...that's too bad, cuz if ya do not mind messin' with the vacuum form plastic it gives a modeler the oppurtunity to build varying versions of these roadsters.
  3. Got a little more done... just waiting for my buddy Steve to print up the decals...
  4. I've done it both ways...started out using one big piece to cover the area, then went to using thin strips to wrap around (uses less foil). The problem with using thin strips is when overlapping foil onto foil, the dang stuff does not stick to itself very well...even the new foil With the foil having a minimum shelf life and not having to worry 'bout over-lappin'...I'm going back to covering the area to be foiled with one piece again. The big pieces left after cutting a windscreen or wheel well opening can be re-used for smaller areas.
  5. Bernard...here be the donor kit:
  6. Mike for your best results and less chance of sumthin' weird happening...use Tamiya's thinner and you do have to thin it down a lot to get it thru an airbrush happy spraying...
  7. yes, photographer (me) got a little hurried, but the bonnet does close all the way down and now that you pointed it out...I did notice when i slipped the chassis under the body that the centerlines of both axles actually are forward of center in the wheel-wells.
  8. This is the last in a series of Indy Roadsters I've built for a friend over the past couple of years. He sent me a bunch of Watson Roadster kits along with vacuum formed bodies to build different versions of these roadsters that raced at Indy in the early 60's. This particular roadster is unique because the engine is mounted on the right side and the driver sits along the left side. At first I thought this conversion would be a problem, but it was not as difficult as I expected. Vacuum formed clear plastic body of the J.H. Rose Trucking Spl All of the parts from the Watson Roadster kit, aftermarket tires, aluminum velocity stacks and you can almost see the clear vacuum formed body. The engine is "layed over" on this roadster, which required seperating the tranny from the engine so it could be "layed over" to the left Chassis w/ roll bar hoop moved to left and engine bracket moved to rightside had to shortened the fuel tank to fit under the rear skin Chassis painted and detailed Engine ready to be installed Tires and wheels ready to be mounted More to come...
  9. I really enjoyed building this model, everything fits and it looks right! only drawback is the engine...not as detailed as those found in the other 250 GTO kits. Paint is Tamiya's Italian Red (TS-8) thanx for lookin'...
  10. A buddy gave me this kit to build for him, he usually builds his own... but something heavy dropped (that's his story) on the box and crushed the right front 1/4 panel of the model . He did not think he could repair it, so gave it to me in hope's I could fix it and finish the model for him . Well here it is...once I got the body work straightened out, it went together like a typical Tamiya...put some glue and paint in the box and shake...presto - out pops a model car Even added a personalized license plate for Mr. T. Wolfe's ride... Thanx for lookin'
  11. Yeah Raul...ol' Bernard is really pumpin' em out isn't he! great start Bernard, I'm still waiting for the '30 Ford Sedan to show up down here...LHS says not til late August I like the steelies and baby moons as well, glad you're goin' away from the nice green
  12. Bernard, I love the Cunningham theme...definitely looks better than the Caddy he ran at LeMans in 1950! gee...got me thinkin' how about a Ford based "Le Monstre" - not really! anyway I like this car...great job!
  13. I used the flathead engine that came in the kit and i did chop it about scale 4"
  14. yes I did...not very hard at all, don't have any photos of how I did it. there have been many threads on this forum for "z"ing frames...just utilize the search feature and ya should find info fairly easily good luck
  15. That kit is an excellent one for building a "rat"...I used it to build the 2nd rat I posted earlier.
  16. I concur with Bernard... I have been very pleased with the products and customer service provided by "Scale Modeling by Chris" I have not played with his decals, but find his resin parts to be 1st rate Give Chris a shot and you should be pleased
  17. Here's a couple of rat's I built for this years NNL West...
  18. My brother-in-laws motto...One Tequilla, Two Tequilla, Three Tequilla...Floor!
  19. You guys are cracking me up I wasn't gonna look at this thread cuz I don't really care about celebrities, etc... but I luv the irrevenous (if that's a word?) in which you are handlin' this "great" loss gotta go and check out the michael jackson thread now... The Sham-Wow guy does kinda scare me though...
  20. dang, that 1:1 looks just like the model... I should contact the owner to see if they need a scale model of their ride... thanx
  21. Thanx...Bernard nah ya can never fall behind, it's not a race hey, can you send me the link to the website ya get your t-shirts printed at? My daughter wants to put some of her art work on a T-shirt, thanx
  22. Thanx...yeah sumtimes all those art classes I took at San Jose State in the 70's has it's rewards
  23. I shoot Model Masters Ultra Gloss Clearcoat and it is similiar to Tamiya's TS-13. It lends itself to color sanding and/or buffing quite well. The only problem I've ever encountered with Tamiya's Clear is if you mask over it, the clear has lifted when pullin' the tape off. Just happened once, not sure if it's the paint or the surface wasn't clean when painted.
  24. A simple '56 Nomad painted with Model Masters One-Coat Lacquer "Root Beer" and Two-Part Lacquer "Phoenician Yellow" to complete the Root Beer Float Theme. Used the lowered suspension parts/tires from the '56 Chevy Del Ray, Aoshima(sp) wheels and a lot of Bare Metal Foil to complete the build. thanx for lookin'...
  25. Ya can never go wrong with the "wifey's" favorite, my choice also... in our household "wifey" is more commonly refered to as "She Who Must Be Obeyed!", and her opinion and desires have crept into a few of my builds. I look forward to following your progress on this build
