Should have addressed to CabDriver who obviously also knows this city all too well.

Stan, I've lived somewhat north of that (Inwood) for the past 12+ years and, up until a few years ago, it was a relatively quiet area, at least by NYC standards. Now, all bets are off. If I had a nickel for every time I was awakened or simply annoyed by street noise I'd have a lot of nickels. Are there still nickel slots in Las Vegas?

As the theme from The Beverly Hillbillies plays in the background.......

I'm old enough to remember the gas lines back in the 70's when siphoning was the preferred method. Back then people (like me) bought locking gas caps and even though gas was a lot cheaper, you just couldn't get it. Long lines with odd/even days based on the last number of your license plate here in NYC. I guess that the high-tech puncture method hadn't yet become the standard for the brainless.

CRAZY EDDIE! Now there's a name that I haven't heard in years. Used to shop at his Brooklyn store on Coney Island Avenue. They always tried to upsell you no matter what it was that you wanted to buy. I recall wanting to buy a 3 head Kenwood cassette deck and they tried to upsell me to a "discounted" Nakamichi deck which was about three times the price and way outside my budget even with the so-called discount. Stubborn SOB that I am, I walked out with the Kenwood.

I'm a native New Yorker (originally from Brooklyn) and your story should serve as a warning. It's not unusual for the mark to be allowed to win the first round. As you found out, trying to walk away with your winnings can lead to all sorts of nasty stuff, especially if the dealer has a few buddies in the crowd for backup and to keep an eye out for the NYPD (who don't seem to care about this stuff any longer). At least you got to tell the tale but many others haven't been quite so lucky.

The only wired distributors that I've ever seen are made by Gofer but I don't find them very realistic. I do use their regular wire with boots that work pretty well on the spark plug end but not so much on the distributor side Drilling out the heads (I use a #73 bit) is simple enough once you determine the plug locations. There are so many pictures showing spark plug locations on the internet that it shouldn't be a problem. That said, I wouldn't mind a niche manufacturer who makes pre-wired distributors that actually look like distributors with decent looking boots at the distributor terminals.

MrMike, I really appreciated your tip about wiring a distributor. I also drill out the cap but have never drilled deeper than that. Drilling through the mounting pin and adding a tubular extension makes so much sense that I'm scratching my head for not thinking of it. Many thanks!

Molotow Chrome Marker breakdown
NYRich72 replied to conchan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've had issues off and on with Molotow pens and mine are always stored at room temperature. What I am going to try is standing them tip us as you suggest. By the way, has anyone tried using the refill? I'd hate to spend what seems like too much money only to find out that it's more trouble than it's worth. -
In my earlier post I mentioned that Revell told me that it would take six weeks for the part to arrive here in the U.S. I don't know what happened, but the part arrived in six days. The new part is perfect and came with a few other parts from the same sprue section.
-
Same here. I'm waiting for the replacement part from Revell.
-
Thanks for the info. So many delays these days that I wasn't totally shocked by what Revell mentioned but I'd sure prefer getting the part sooner than they said.
-
Beautiful build. I'm actually working on one but am at a standstill. I don't know if it's a common problem, but the windshield frame on mine is so warped that it's pretty much unusable. Contacted Revell and they are shipping me a replacement part from Germany. Oddly(?), it takes 6 weeks to reach the USA but only 3 weeks to reach the rest of the planet.

Stan, Absolutely correct. Like other laws, they only work if they're enforced. I live in upper Manhattan and it's an all-night noise fest with loud "mufflers", motorcycles and fireworks year round. This isn't the place to be pointing fingers but I think that we New Yorker's know where the problem lies.

I don't have a lifetime supply of kits (well, maybe I do because of my age) but I've just ordered several kits that I've had my eye on before the prices take a major pop. I've already noticed a price hike on quite a few kits from what I paid only a few months ago. Don't even get me started on gas prices. Not as bad as in CA, but here in NYC regular just hit $4.40 at my local BP station with premium at $5.00. Plenty of people driving solo in large gas-guzzlers for no reason other than wanting to look cool. Latest thing here is loud mufflers (history always does repeat itself) and pulling away from red lights like they're at the drag strip. Many of these are the same folks moaning about gas prices.

Really nice build. Love the color and the great job on the vinyl top. Gotta try a vinyl top one of these days. Actually owned a 1968 SS 1:1 in dark blue. Sold it in '74 for a '72 non-SS with a 307 that got swapped out for a 327 and tranny from a wrecked 'vette.

Being only slightly older than Meat Loaf, his music was a big part of my own coming of age. Fond memories of seeing him in The Rocky Horror Picture Show countless times in Greenwich Village. A few minutes ago I heard that he died of Covid-related complications with asthma as an underlying condition. RIP

Heck, here in my Manhattan neighborhood regular (BP) is up to $3.56 with premium at $4.06. I'm pretty far uptown and I'd bet that midtown prices are even higher. Makes me happy that I gave my car to my daughter when I moved here.

Having been a MCM subscriber until the print version was discontinued, I am very happy to see that a print version is again available and have just subscribed again. I only learned of the new print edition by accident but it would have been nice to have received notification that a print edition was again available. I don't know how many folks (like myself) simply didn't want an online version but would have jumped at the opportunity to again receive this great magazine in print. It could be that I'm "late to the party", but has any thought been given to notifying former print subscribers who did not renew for the same reason that I didn't?

Great job! I have this model but after seeing yours I will be ordering a second kit
