CAT 320C Excavator
Casey replied to Tesla's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Love it. Nice work on the weathering, Dennis. You've turned a toy into a treasure. -
I want to say Art Anderson mentioned he was at the Chicago(?) Toy and Hobby Show back when the LVT-1000 debuted, and that interest was poor then, so IMC never proceeded beyond the one example they displayed. It would be great if that lone example resurfaced one day, though.

Does anyone make the 73 firebird?
Casey replied to fitforbattle's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe those wheels are Amercian Racing "Nugget" wheels, and you can find similar wheels in some AMT or MPC '90s Chevy C/K series pickup kits, though they will no be as deep as what I see in your picture. The rear tires look like bias-ply tires, so if you decide to use the 1/25 Monogram '70 T/A kit, the Arii Mickey Thompson rubber tires would work great on the rear. Here's a box side view of the 1/24 '70 T/A, in which you can see the air extractors/fender vents I mentioned. These were only used on Trans Ams, and while the wheel spats were also exclusive to T/As (and not used on Esprits nor Formulas) your FIL's car has aftermarket flares and spoilers, so you could probably incorporate them without too much trouble, and you'd need to add them to an original MPC Formula body, too. Here's the MPC '73 Firebird kit: -

Casey replied to fitforbattle's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's not a Trans Am, at least if the fenders are still factory. Factory T/A fenders have an air extractor in them, so this car appears to be a Firebird with some aftermarket fender flares and front spoiler. Hard to tell if the hood simply had a hole cut in it for the air cleaner to poke through or if a T/A style Shaker hood was added, but if you want a reasonably close replica without breaking the bank, pick up a 1/24 Monogram/Revell (it was labeled as both, depending upon when it was released) '70 Pontiac Trans Am kit and use that. They're easy to find and there will already be a hole in the hood. -
Can anyone figure this out
Casey replied to Greg Cullinan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, his $1,000 price was intentionally so high no sane person would consider bidding...exactly what the seller wants. It looks like the seller used eBay's picture services and might be at the maximum of ten images, so s/he thinks s/he cannot add more. You can always add more images using an html code/link, but I'm sure this will turn out fine for the seller as is. That's a gorgeous Cadillac kit and box, too. -
Wow, the molds for this kit really got around.

1/16 Revell Hawaiian Dodge Charger Funny Car
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hard to say for sure, but it looks like they are, and the shoulders more squared off, too, similar to the Aurora M&H Racemaster slicks. -
Looks like it'll be reissued in its original issue 3'n'1 format: http://www.round2models.com/models/amt/1953-ford-pickup

It's not the cost, it's the value :)
Casey replied to Howard Cohen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Value is a hard thing for some people to understand. Some have the "lowest price" mentality engrained into their minds, so it doesn't matter what you get in exchange for your money, only how much money it costs. Plus, value is such a personal and variable thing to each of us, so not everyone will find the same value in something, even if the cost is the same for both. One of my favorite quotes is: "It is what we value, not what we have, that makes us rich." If you only focus on the money, what things cost, or how much you do or don't have, you'll probably never understand nor find value in anything, and I find that truly sad. -
The fastback Sportsroof whatever Ford called it wasn't available until the '65 model year IIRC, so knowing the original release has always been labeled as a '64 1/2, I think the only puzzlung thing is why Round2 decided to label it as a '65 this go 'round. I don't know if/what distinguishes a '64 1/2 from a '65, but if nothing nor not much at all, that would explain the model year change. Or they goofed with the model year.

Chassis option for a Plymouth
Casey replied to my80malibu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's very similar to the 1/24 GTX kit's chassis. Ditto for the other Monogram 1/24 musclecars, such as the '70 Superbird, '70 Challenger T/A, '70 Chevelle/Malibu SS, '78 T/A, etc. For a better starting point, start with a 1/25 scale JO-HAN '70 Roadrunner body, and the AMT '68-'70 B-bodies' chassis, suspension, and engine, or use some of the Revell 1/25 '68-9 Charger parts. -
Does anyone make the 73 firebird?
Casey replied to fitforbattle's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You're probably best off paying the price and buying an original MPC annual '73 kit. If you want to upgrade it, you can use the chassis from the AMT '70.5 Z/28 or Baldwin Motion Camaro kits underneath. -
Are these close enough?: For glue, I recommend Testors liquid cement in the glass jar, with the brush attached to the lid. Do not use the orange or blue tubes of glue...those are a mess and not easy to work with. You can use Squadron's white putty for small, shallow areas needing filling. If you have deeper areas, I recommend a two-part filler, such as Bondo, Evercoat's Eurosoft, or similar.

Ford C-600 Flatbed
Casey replied to Casey's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks, Bill and Dave. I was unable to resolve the non-Studebaker engine issue, and it's been stewing in the back of my mind since I started this project. The Studebaker V8 engine always looked too small in place between the truck's framerails, and while artificially enlarging it to make a pseudo-Stude heavy duty engine would probably work within the context of this build, neither the AMT Avanti nor '53 Starliner's engines are all that well detailed, so that option was eliminated. The Super Duty Ford engine is out, too, though it will eventually be installed in one of the other two C-600 kits I've acquired. It's too far along to be abandoned, and "Studebakerizing" it wasn't a great solution, either. Fortunately, I have a solution which will correct the engine mismatch issue...sort of. I need to do some test fitting and measuring, but I should have an update near the end of next week. -
How About an automatic "SAVE" Feature on Emails or Messages?
Casey replied to impcon's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
True, it could have been manually entered in multiple areas. I was wondering if I had missed something and there was an "e-mail this member" or similar feature in each member's profile area. Mostly I was trying to separate the e-mail from PM comment, trying to determine if the e-mail message related problem Gary was having was an issue with his web browser or e-mail provider since I don't think direct e-mail is part of our profiles here. And thanks.
