Out Of Production Resin & Aftermarket Products
Casey replied to Casey's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You were pretty close to the source, and assuming it's the same one you saw/purchased, it's still available from Morgan Automotive Detail (M.A.D.): http://www.madmodeling.com/store/ccp0-prodshow/79muscoupe.html -
looking for Info on AMT 1968 Mustang Shelby 500
Casey replied to Mike Kucaba's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This same kit has been in AMT's lineup since the '60s, with minor changes. I think this (original?) issue even included a record: You can get a good look at what's inside the kit by looking at this one on eBay now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-1968-Ford-Shelby-GT-500-Mustang-Unbuilt-Orig-Issue-w-Record-Super-Snake-68-/251372242030?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item3a86f4046e It's a 3'n'1 kit, with some info on the side of the box: -
Model car boxes (different then the other post)
Casey replied to chevyfever2009's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I think some people buy them because they only need the box to "complete" the kit, and if they're going to re-sell it, it has more value to them if the box and all the parts are sold together. Sometimes the most difficult part to find is the box itself, as so many are crushed, drawn on, torn, faded, split at the corners, have glue and paint spilled inside them, etc. -

DanielG used it on his Trans Am Sportwagon project, and it seems to have worked well for him: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35611&hl= http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=75401&page=1

If it was a TKM kit, I don't care how badly anyone wants it, RUN AWAY AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN. They are that bad.

1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
Casey replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I doubt a Gran Coupe would ever be a stand alone version of this kit, but I could see Revell eventually offering the "flat" standard hood as a future option. Some people like and prefer to use decals for the nameplates instead of foiling or painting the nameplates after the body is painted, so adding a "Barracuda" nameplate decal didn't take much extra work on the artist's part, so why not include it. -

Sometimes the box art is the best part of the kit, like the Revell '56 Ford Pickup I recently bought. Great box art, but the actual model, not so much. -

...then we have it pretty darn good right now. Here's Tim's decal sheet picture: Lots of options, and I think Keith Marks offers a sheet if you want even more options. -
Chevy Citation… stop laughing
Casey replied to vwdave92's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That was one factor, but the angle of the hatch, the rear window opening size/shape, the tail lights and tail panel-- all different enough to justify starting from scratch IMO. -
Welcome back, Jody. Do you want to use your old account instead of this new one?: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showuser=720

Chevy Citation… stop laughing
Casey replied to vwdave92's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I looked into doing that when I had both a 1/24 Monogram Citation coupe and a 1/25 MPC '81 Cavalier body on hand, but they weren't close enough IMHO, and lots of scratchbuilding would be required on the body and interior. -
If you're looking for a 1/25 '70.5-'75 Firebird Formula Ram Air hood, Missing Link used to make one, but you'd have to contact them to find out if it's still available.
-
No, only for the 1/25 MPC/AMT kit/body.

Chevy Citation… stop laughing
Casey replied to vwdave92's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think someone tried it once, but I've never seen a completed citation hatchback model. I wish there was one, too, as I have a soft spot for '84-5 X-11 hatchbacks. -

Round 2, and VW licensing......
Casey replied to RatRod's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think the VW license applies to any of the buggy kits in your last post, and AFAIK the ex-IMC 1/20 Surf Buggy kit is still going to be released in 2104 under the Lindberg label. Ed Sexton of Revell mentioned that dealing with VW was not easy due to VW having an entirely new department handling licensing, so perhaps it was the same situation with Round2 and VW. Did Round2 obtain licensing from VW when they released both version of the Meyers Manx? -
