“BUILDING THE COVERS “vol#8 The Bob Ford 1965 A/FX Mustang
M W Elky replied to M W Elky's topic in Drag Racing
All the cammer parts came from the galaxie kit including the air ducts. I agree l’d love to have a kit with all the a/fx parts in one box. Round 2 has most of the parts in about 4 different kits. Drag racing kits sell well at least in my neck of the woods. I would be happy if they would just come close with a teardrop hood, American wheels, slicks, and cammer parts. I dream of moebius making a stretched nose 1966 mustang. -

In my opinion this is the one of the best super stock kit ever produced, and I think the first kit made with only a super stock version. I can remember how l couldn’t hardly wait for it’s release back in the late 1980’s or somewhere around there. After building both kit version’s Fred Caddy printed up five new decal sheets for it, and of course I built all of them. So here are two that go along with the Bob Ford Mustang from my vol #8 of building the covers. These were built box stock with testors enamel paint, and Fred Caddy decals thank’s for checking them out, mike

Yea me too I’ve collected decals for about 6 versions so far. Unfortunately we’re probably going to be stuck with the old school chassis plate, and it gets expensive for another donor kit.when I build the fastbacks I’m going to make the headers, and traction bars patterned from revell’s thunder bolt. The 66 galaxie cammer fit the chassis real nice, but I would consider using one from the moebius comet. -
Well folks it looks like it’s shaping up to be the year of 1965 A/FX mustangs and dodges. Thanks to the good people at amt and moebius we’re going to have kits I’ve been waiting 40 years for. I built this cool little A/FX mustang coupe a couple years ago.here’s the parts list Amt 1966 mustang coupe kit resin cast teardrop hood Amt 1966 galaxie sohc engine Amt 1962 Belair wheels Amt slicks & front Firestone supremes decals by Fred Caddy paint by testors champagne gold enamel (unfortunately another discontinued color) interior was painted with krylon red As always thanks for checking it out, mike

Very cool altered panel that colors a home run. It would be neat if someone would make mural decals for this body.

This really defines the word cool .Great color’s, and use of parts -
This is a simple combination of the amt 1968 roadrunner body, and the rest is polar lights barracuda funny car. With a modified chassis to fit the roadrunner body. The decals are by slixx. This was the only roadrunner bodied funny car. It was a real tank, but it was the body of choice for the sponsor. I think it made for a way cool funny car. This was a nice easy build a great kit bash project. thank’s for checking it out, mike

The complete engine with the fuel injection came out of the amt 1963 corvette. The decals came from smp decals I got them from their website. You can also now get them from slixx their’s are probably printed with a little sharper resolution. Thanks for the nice complement mike

This is a nice little kit, and it went together real easy. I borrowed some parts from the flowing kits amt 1963 corvette: engine amt slicks and Firestone supreme front tires amt 1962 bel air steel wheels testors white enamel with smp decals

Check out my build of jungle Jim’s red camaro in the drag racing section of this form. I made it from body from the original kit mixed with a mpc chassis

Really nice ? are the front wheel pants in the Jeb Allen kit?
-
I think it came out very nice. Your choice of color matches the cool old box art pretty good. I agree these old dragster kits were really basic.
-
Yea the decals were fine for there age. I keep all my decals in plastic storage containers, and in a climate controlled room. Here’s a picture of the headers. I use 3/32” solder to make them which I’ve been having a hard time finding lately.
