The blue car is a box stock build from circa 1990. As for the red cars I used the last issue of mongoose navy kit. This reissue is the best of the the revell duster body funny cars. With the main part of the chassis being one piece, better slicks, longer headers, and more. I cut down the roll cage on these to make the body sit lower on the chassis. I also moved the engine a little forward on both cars. The decals on the version with the black sides came from chuck boener. The red paint is testors Italian red lacquer on both. Thanks for looking ?. mike.

I love that color thanks for showing how well these old johan kits look detailed. Despite their simplified chassis they had the sharpest body’s and engines

That’s the nicest looking grill and tail light panel I have ever seen on a 62 bel air. With the fade paint it reminds it looks like a Gene Winfield custom. Great job

This all started with a stock revell kit with added dual quad intake manifold and carbs from amt’s parts pack, parts box slicks, and scratch built headers. Aftermarket decals were from Lucas I think they are still available from SMP. The pale yellow color is a discontinued testors color. Thanks for looking ?. Mike

This Vega funny car was built from the revell jungle Jim kit with a wheel and tire swap from the mpc hot rod Mustang f/c back wheels, and the front wheels can be found in any polar lights funny car kit. The shorter and wider mpc slicks make a big difference in the stance. I used tamyia mica red and decals from the amazing chuck boener

This is a box stock revell kit decals are from decals by Lucas which I believe is no longer available ☹️. The rear wheels are from my parts box. These Mustangs look great from all angles, and are a really easy build I especially like the 3/4 rear view. thanks for looking ?. Mike

What a great cover shot. I used the awesome mpc blue max funny car kit with the addition of 427 sohc parts from the polar lights mustang f/c kit. I had a hard time picking out the right shade of blue as it depends on the reference photos you look at . I finally decided on a tamyia dark metallic blue, and decals from the great chuck boener. He has quite a few decal sheets available that fit this body. If you’re not familiar I’d suggest you check’ ‘‘em out. thanks for looking ?. , Mike

These short wheel base dragsters of the early 1960’s are the bomb man. They are so much fun to build, and kits like the double dragster, the Tony Nancy double kit , the slingster , and all the old revell kits being reissued by Atlantis are great sources of parts for theses builds. We are living in a great modeling era. Your builds are awesome thanks for sharing them with us. Mike

I built this right out of the revell box sometime in the late 1980’s. I painted it with krylon gloss white and testors French blue . At the time it was the closest shade of blue I could find to match the decal color. During this time we only had the paint displays at our local hobby shops . Sadly these shops are almost all gone. Out of the 10 or so in my area only 2 remain .

AMT 1966 427 FAIRLANE SUPER STOCK THE ULREY BROS.
M W Elky replied to M W Elky's topic in Drag Racing
Ford built these 427 fairlanes just for super stock. Billy gooche made Hubert platt decals for a different version which is harder to build with the addition of the side trim and vinyl top thanks for the nice complement, mike -
This was built from the mpc soapy sales kit. straight from the box sprayed with testors diamond dust with Italian red lacquer. And a few coats of clear. Then topped off with slixx decals. The mpc funny cars of the early 70’s build up really easy and can be detailed to any level . It would be a really good idea for round two to tool up or reissue a couple more body’s to fit this chassis. Like the dunn&reath cuda , the Vega body, and a newly tooled camaro body. They would sell well imo. A cuda with snake decals with the white paint scheme would be huge they have the prudhomme licensing. I guess we can dream. thanks for looking ? all questions and commentary are appreciated, mike

AMT 1966 427 FAIRLANE SUPER STOCK THE ULREY BROS.

I think it was a light ivory color that I picked up from lowes or home depo with testors clear coat. Tamyia makes a color called racing white that might look close to this. I think the real car was a real pale yellow almost ivory. Ever since the collapse of testors and the pandemic some colors of spray paint have been hard to get. -
Lucius , that’s one cool mustang funny. That’s one of my favorite kits imo the best 1971-73 mustang f/c kit. Nicely detailed chassis real nice job , mike

Scott , Try stores.smhracing.com . yesteryear drag decals . That’s not what I used but they are one piece not over laying like the ones that I used. There decals are pretty good I’ve used them before. Good luck building, Mike -

John the body dimensions on the amt kit are almost the same as the moebius body. You could cut off both quarter panels at the sharp crease body line. You might ever to use the stock location quarter panels on the leftover amt hard top. I used the front spring/axle and radius rods from the amt 1966 awb mustang on my old Doug thorley creation . I don’t think this conversation would be that hard. Good luck with it. Mikr -
Hi John yea it flips it’s just a pain in the neck to get it to sit right on the chassis with the body closed . I’ll open it up and add some pics when I get back from vacation. I just snapped a few quick pics before I left. I don’t build as fast as you might. Sometimes real work gets in the way. All I build is drag cars and I think I have 300+. So displaying them with the magazine can’t happen yet.space restrictions my den is only 8’x10’. To do it right would be to build a long pitcher frame attached to a shelf. I built the prototype for this type of frame 20 some years ago oh how time gets away from me. Thanks for the good words, Mike

Hi John, yea I just flipped the spindles there were no other suspension mod’s. It’s always real important to me to get the right stance . You have a sharp eye to notice that thanks for the nice complements , Mike -
This build is mostly box stock with the addition of parts box front wheels rear slicks, headers from the 69 Torino , and smp decals. This was a nice easy fun to build kit. Thanks amt for putting it back on the shelves. As always thanks for looking ? , Mike
