“ BUILDING THE COVERS “ vol # 113 BOB HARROP’S 1965 A/FX AWB DODGE
M W Elky replied to M W Elky's topic in Drag Racing
That Jo-Han kit is still one of my favorites I’ve got the original box autographed by the team members. These 65 kits were along time coming I had been asking the big model company’s to make them for years. Finally one of them listened and it’s a beauty -

How about it I’ve got decals squirreled away for 7 versions, and I can’t be the only one however I would need at least one stock version to build the orange super stock magazine modified production car -
Once again the fantastic moebius kit out of the box . This car won big at the 1965 super stock nationals . the decals are a mix with the large door and deck lid decals coming from joe Curtis at freemont resin and Jim heller . The Jim heller decals would be really accurate for the A990 sedan that was Harrop’s super stock leagal car . The quarter panel decals on the freemont sheet look under sized when compared to most reference photos. Until next time thanks for looking , mike

Tim , Do you know if they cut a mold for a pro stock version? -
Wow I’ve never have had even close to that invested in paint for a model you guys are really dedicated when fans . Fantastic build with incredible detail
-
That’s a super nice build love the color . What paint did you use ?
-
You just didn’t see anyone build this version anymore what a fantastic job. Round 2 could get some extra mileage from this mold by restoring the funny car parts and using the original box art
-
WOW that’s one great looking HEMI those fuel lines are just amazing. A great overall look these kits are already legendary

Such a cool project and it really looks like your making good progress

I had also toyed with making the injector seal plate by flipping over the kit supplied oval air cleaner after cutting the injector stacks then attaching the top part of the velocity stacks to the flipped air cleaner after cutting. I’m kinda kicking around the idea of going back and doing it . Am I the only one who’s kinda miffed that they couldn’t include two sets of stacks . I have big fingers and find them a real pain in the rear to glue back together let alone getting them all cut straight and to the right length. -
I recently finished this one it’s the first Möebius Awb mopar that I have completed and now that I built one of the Plymouths the dodge just seemed to fit a little fussier particularly with the window glass area . I’m definitely not complaining these are great kits .i did add to the roll cage with 0.080 styrene rod to match the reference photos . Until next time thanks for looking, mike

“BUILDING THE COVERS “ Vol # 94 BARRY SETZERS Pro Stock Camaro
M W Elky replied to M W Elky's topic in Drag Racing
Your probably have to use another source for the wheels and hood scoop as competition resin no longer has what you need available though the slixx web site . You might want to check out forward_resin on their eBay store for the wheels. As for the grump lump style scoop the MPC Vega grumpy’s toy has one that would look ok and if you need one I have plenty of extras . As for aluminum slots in kit form I noticed that there’s a rather decent set included with the trailer in the AMT CAL. drag team set . Good luck with your project . I find that sometimes gathering all the parts is part of the fun . Is the paint rattle can ? If so who was the seller? -

It looks great so far I also have one of these as a stalled project so i can’t wait to see how yours turns out. On the one I was building I just couldn’t get the hood right . It looks like you have it pretty spot on -
I built this from the fantastic Möbius kit as I have been waiting pretty much my whole modeling career for someone to produce 1965 Awb mopars so here we go . The kit builds up rather nicely although the windows are a little fussy I cut the alinement tabs off the bottom of the side glass before gluing them in this procedure worked really good to ease the fineal assembly . As for the decals there are tons of reference photos on line for the placement of them . With all the aftermarket ones available you can hardly go wrong the options are there for either early mid or late season. As these cars raced 4-6 days a week they changed often . So with that said there are no right or wrong choices when it comes to markings and wheel choices. I did find it interesting that about mid to late in the year they changed from autolight to champion spark plugs. My dad always used champions on his 64 super stock dodge . As a warning these Awb mopar kits are highly addictive so buy as many as you can , and all the decals you can find . The version on the front of the magazine was sporting carburetors, and from what I understand is that sometimes they would change back and forth between injection and carburetors depending on who they were match racing. Here’s the parts breakdown and yes at some point down the road I will go back and glue in either head lights or covers Mobius 1965 Golden Commandos Awb Plymouth kit Revell 1964 Thunderbolt kit : Keystone wheels Tamyia paint : white , Italian red , clear Testors paint; star spangled blue slixx : decals , the small Stewart Warner decal is from the amt twister Awb Chevy 2 parts box : fuel tank as always until next time thanks for looking, mike

Great job on my all time favorite Awb car of all time. Bud flew out to Detroit and drove this car back to PENNA . to break in the Hemi . These guys were true renegades back then .
