This is one I'll be watching...I've been wanting to do a duo of gun Jeeps a la "Rat Patrol" TV show. Got too much on the bench right now! Not to mention some spring cleaning in the yard etc etc...

Good day, folks...seems I have some catch-up to do!! I've been MIA as I gave up Facebook and all forums for Lent. My 1961 Ford Galaxie build called "Galaxium" is complete! Here is the entire Photobucket Album. A few pics of the finished vehicle. Enjoy...I hope to get onto another build for this soon! -

Waiting on the London Bus?

This looks like another "Must Have" kit for sure...amazing! Now if we could get a modern North American public transit bus in 1/24-1/25 scale...something like an Orion or New Flyer 40 foot or 60 foot articulated bus...or a new Alexander Denis Enviro 500 double decker to go with this one! -
I usually set my tripod about 12-18 inches from the model.

I have built some...even entered them in contests and won a plaque or two. One kit was the Monogram 1959 Impala convertible. Great kit, good detail with a few things to overcome, like the floor to firewall seam, but not out of this world. Really keeps you on the basics of modelling and getting the finish right. I won a first in box stock at one show and 3rd in box stock AND Best Interior at another show...yes, a box stock model won best interior at a contest. Another was a Revell 1992 Hot Wheels Trans Am Camaro race car. Tons of mould seams on the frame on that one. but it came out pretty good...decals took a while, though. I got a second and a third at two separate shows. My point is that a box stock build can be a challenge, mostly to your basic modelling skills. Prep work, finishing work, parts fit, glue joints, paint, etc...all have to stand apart, above and beyond. It also helps to start with a nice kit that goes together well and has a decent amount of detail out of the box (ooo, a pun! LOL!) The two examples I gave were fun cars to build, which helped. They also serve as a change of pace, especially if you have put together a few heavy detail builds or are in a building slump. Helps put that focus back on your basic skills and away from the techno-whiz-bang stuff. Have I won other plaques? Yes. Any best ofs? Just the one Best Interior...with my box stock build! The contest plaques were not the reason for building these kits, but ending up being a bonus reward for the effort I put into models that I proudly display on my shelf, right beside ones that have been kitbashed or had added details. It is about having fun with the hobby and I personally find that I will be more likely to finish an out of the box build these days than a fully detailed build. More a matter of my time and how I want to spend it at the bench at this stage in my life! Have fun building! I do and maybe I'll finish a few more than before! -
There probably is a similar product with a different name available in our neck of the woods, Michael. Try a Napa store, or other auto shops. CTC (which also owns Parts Source) doesn't have the same selections, but their name brands are probably similar. It may take some experimenting. Name brands, like Maguiar's, Turtle Wax and such would be a good place to start.

Wow! The VW single cab alone got my interest...there are several others that look interesting!

Another beauty for the collection, Virgil! Nice! -
Most of my photography of my models is done inside. I've used white paper for some: Here I used an old dining table quilted underlay...not happy with the results...not sure which camera I used but the results were not as I'd hoped. and my garage diorama for most lately: Outdoors on one occasion: Indoors most of the time: There is an interior, so as I progress with working on the inside, I'll be able to use that as well for variety: For lighting I use a 100w spot light set back about 10 feet from the subject to represent the sun...I clip it to my over the workbench dual tube flourescent hanging light as it provides a simple light source. My wife has a light box which I haven't taken time to play with yet and it has two lights for the box lighting. My camera is a Canon PowerShot S3IS, 6.0 megapixels. I use a tripod, set the timer to avoid camera shake from depressing the shutter button and the macro setting. I do on occasion use the flash to fill and have used a paper deflector taped to the camera to try different effects by bouncing the flash. I'm sure there are other ideas out there too! I use the higher resolution on the camera, use ZoomBrowser EX to trim the shots and make any adjustments to brightness and contrast, then shrink the pictures in Paint. Here's one without the flash (the girls I found in a sale bin...they are Spice Girls...the dog was in a dollar store set) Similar shot but with the flash I hope I've given someone some ideas and a bit of help or inspiration.

Interesting topic and input so far...that Circus Krone is over the top cool!! I can't imagine the hours that were put into it...or the time and effort to pack it up into the vehicles and move it to another "town"! If it's just you and I that are impressed suitably by this Christian than so be it! Thanks for posting about it! Rob-That WAM diorama is very well done!
