When I was growing up in suburban Houston in the sixties, the neighborhood gearhead guy bought a ratty ‘57 Chevy 210 2-door sedan roller. He dropped in a 327 vette engine, painted the outside white and the gutted interior yellow. He left off all the external bright work including the grill and front bumper, welded in a length of cast iron pipe in place of the rear bumper and mounted a pair of cheater slicks in back. That car eternally imprinted on me what a ‘57 Chevy should be. Especially after he gave me a ride in it.
For anyone who hasn’t already seen it, my Spirit of ‘57 gasser build was inspired by the memory of that car.
