I used a comet scrub on the body, followed with soap and water. For primer, it's cheap touch and tone hardware store light gray primer. All airbrushed.craft paints have some good colors available, but to get a thinner that will actually help the paint stick was my biggest problem. For the clear, it's createx 4050 thinned with 4011, three coats and 2 solid days to cure followed by novus polish. If you need more information feel free to p.m. me.

Plasma Cutter I don't need no stinking Plasma Cutter
johnyrotten replied to Mike 1017's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Well, that's one way to do it. -
Started foiling tonight, it's going pretty well. Door handles are a pain to do, not completely happy with them. Thanks to everyone who gave any tips or advice, it ALL came in handy with this. Not all that difficult, just had to pay attention watch how it behaved. I work with metal all day long, so maybe that helps. Thank again

Must be an E.V.

Depending on your needs, even something such as an old tow ball could work, or like suggested a chunk of railroad track or beam. The plate he was using may have been ""pickled and oiled". Basically no mill scale , similar to cold rolled steel. The body hammer kits shown above are a good start for metal forming, I've made "anvils" out of cheap, beat ones for projects in the past.

I scrounged up 24 various kits and rebuilders, but I just got back into the hobby.

Those were not allowed in 4 cylinder Enduro races at my hometown track, I know the exact cars your talking about.

Probably a "parking aid". Most likely just another feature they can charge you for, and people can figure out how to misuse. Like Mercedes "bounce" mode.

Beautiful work, welcome to the forum.

Polished the clear coat tonight, and painted the wheel/tires. I still have to detail the center caps and lugs, not sure what I want to do. Planning on foiling it up tomorrow, hopefully.

The Big Boys-Large Cars
johnyrotten replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
70's land barges littered my childhood, mom had a big caprice (73-76) when we moved here to New York in '88. Also a dodge sportsman van. I still remember holding the choke closed to help start that junk as a kid. She also had a Vista Cruiser, I would love to own that today. I grew up in those cars, anytime I see one, is like "visiting my old neighborhood". -
Model building on youtube.
johnyrotten replied to Force's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't actively "follow" any modeling channels, mostly use them as a resource for tips or information on a particular method or skill I'm trying to develop. As far as the larger channels churning out completed models rapidly, that probably comes down to youtube being an occupation and them having to keep the algorithm "happy". Miss an upload, or have a few poorly performing videos and it tanks revenues. I've listened to more than a few creator's say that on channels I follow. -
Scalpel/surgical blade question
johnyrotten replied to johnyrotten's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've got those, along with the regular ones. It was my though to use them for this, along with any delicate work. I'm a bit of a tool junkie, right tool for the job, so the scalpel is another option. On another note, I've occasionally found those z series blades at hobby lobby mis-priced to that of the standard blades. Something to keep an eye out for. Thanks for your reply -
Scalpel/surgical blade question
johnyrotten replied to johnyrotten's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've read that, and ordered directly from them. Any where locally either didn't carry it, and the one store had an ancient package, wrinkled, dust and all. I think the dust cost extra. -
Scalpel/surgical blade question
johnyrotten replied to johnyrotten's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the reply. I've done a ton of reading and whatnot, it seems straightforward enough. I've read almost verbatim what you've said with the scalpel, on another site. I think I'll start with the regular old (new) #11, see how it goes. Nice Maverick, and I like that cutting mat. Except 25a and 25b. -
Cars that grow on you as you get older.
johnyrotten replied to RSchnell's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stock 30's-40's anything. Used to think they needed to be radically custom, I find it cool now to check them out and see the craftsmanship and design that went into them.
