Cars that grow on you as you get older.
johnyrotten replied to RSchnell's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stock 30's-40's anything. Used to think they needed to be radically custom, I find it cool now to check them out and see the craftsmanship and design that went into them. -

That's funny, I'm trying not to be Robert liston on this model. -
Scalpel/surgical blade question

The control thing is a good point, I'm good with an exacto knife, a scalpel is much sharper, might be setting myself up for an issue. Or stitches. -
What do you drive?
johnyrotten replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a "fan" of them, I've owned four. Mostly beater work trucks, they're dependable and capable little trucks. Cheap to maintain, too. -
Getting ready to try foiling,I've seen some members here use a scalpel. Are there any particular sizes that are most useful, do the blades fit a standard x-acto handle or is a dedicated scalpel handle best?

Thats a clean ranger you have, I had a '99, long bed. Great little trucks if you can keep a rear end in them. This one ate 2. -
My rescue pit harper licks. Compulsively. The shelter actually had her on meds, our vet took her off, and explained to us it's a stress/boredom reaction. She's trying to calm herself. We've gotten a few things to help her keep occupied, and our other dog. Big improvement now, maybe that's the case with your rotty

Bored build New inspiration…
johnyrotten replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't get bored, more like apprehensive on a new skill/idea. I tend to go in "research mode" until I figure out what is I'm trying to do, and get after it. That applies to most everything i do, not just model building. For me, having "too many irons on the fire" is a recipe for problems, but everyone is different. If putting one away and coming back to it later works, I say go for it. -
Holding resin tires for painting
johnyrotten replied to johnyrotten's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You're welcome, I'm actually placing an order another order tonight, I ham-fistedly broke one of the rear wheels. Very happy with everything, you and your company are awesome. Thank you -
Broke a wheel for the gto, should have known better. Oh well, now I have a reason for more model stuff.

I use a pill bottle with piece of masking tape on it flipped upside down. Came upon that on this forum somewhere, can't recall what thread.

So this is the idea how forensics lifts fingerprints on delicate surfaces with it?

That's exactly the case after finally getting in touch with them. As I had figured, nothing more on my end as far as restitution, not that I was looking for anything. This "extra" situation was a bit confusing, only the second accident I've been involved in. Thanks for the reply

I had just gotten back into the hobby a few months before the bankruptcy, and was completely unaware shapeways existed, let alone a full on aftermarket for scale models. I came across this article, figured i would share it, and from what I've gathered, alot of people have strong feelings about them, and the way they treated the people that created the actual files and vendors.

Holding resin tires for painting
johnyrotten replied to johnyrotten's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've made up 10-12 color test, and coated half of each with dull coat, that really adds "depth" to the different shades. I should have just bought a tire black, this project has some self imposed limitations. Thanks for the reply -
Back Before the EPA
johnyrotten replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most cars today, I believe, won't become icons like the beetle, mustang, ect. Most likely it will be the case: hey, look at that 2020 whatever with 3/4 of a million miles still on the road. I remember those. I still use old equipment everyday for work, and enjoy doing so. Kinda sad how we discard our past. -
Holding resin tires for painting

These are iceman collections, they have hollow "segments", I agree they wouldn't work with anything solid. I like the tape idea, first time using anything resin, good to know the adhesive shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the info. -

I was thinking something like that, I didn't/don't have any dowels on hand. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. -

I think '63 was the last year in the u.s. . At least it's not an oval widow. Or a split -

Thanks, these work, wondering how others have done it, my first idea failed. -
Just looking for options how everyone secures resin tires for airbrushing. I've already made something, but if there happens to be a faster, or simpler way I'm all ears. Here's what I've come up with.

I'm waiting for a call back from the office. As far as how I feel, we've all done stupid things, I know I did in my youth. I also "matured"(I use that term loosely) and stopped acting like a blank. For the most part. I feel there's a lesson to be learned here, whether or not it actually will be is out of everyone's hands except his. All I do know is in NY, a dwi offense starts around ten or so grand the moment the cop lights you up, between fines and all that. Thanks for the reply

My take on it exactly, waiting for "government" to get to work and I'll call them to confirm. Thanks
