  1. I've been using POR15 Marine Clean as recommended by The Modelhaus http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?faq=1
  2. i was following this thread hoping for some pics and since my example arrived today I have snapped some shots of the trees. Vernon stated 4 of his examples had a warped nerf bar, item #167 and my example is the same. Other than the nerf bar issue its a nice kit. Everything cleanly moulded with no flash. Excellent tires though they don't have any markings. A very nice decal sheet too with everything well printed and in perfect register. Looks like it will build up into a nice replica even though it may not be 100% accurate.
  3. Now that is thinking outside of the circle. This is going to be very interesting.
  4. That looks really sharp. Nice build
  5. Thanks for sharing. There is always plenty of inspiration to be found at these shows
  6. Thanks for all the positive comments guys. As for your questions, I started with the Revell 50 F-1 kit and the blower is from Machined Aluminum Specialists: #MAS134
  7. This is Revells' pick up kit I turned into a paint shop parts chaser. I just chopped and channeled it and used up alot of bits and pieces from my parts box. I don't know if the intake would be viable in reality but just wanted to do something that was different.
  8. I'm dealing with Model Express, Model Roundup, Plastic models .com and HobbyLink Japan. All of them have done a excellent job for me.
  9. Just arrived from HobbyLink Japan
  10. I remember reading a discussion some time ago about a digital version of the mag being produced. What was the answer to that ? The 'other' mag is now offering a digital option. I've never seen MCM in NZ and I've had issues in the past with various mags coming from America and arriving in tatters.
  11. Hobby Design are a chinese company and their products can range from excellent to abysmal. I've purchased a couple of their trans kits and both had resin warped parts, though other resin parts in the same box were perfect You really want to see their product in person before purchase. This is from my Mclaren 722GT and Hamann Fiat trans kits
  12. I've been looking in to this same thing as I have some multi media kits that are going to present the same issue. On other forums the members swear by using magnetic tumblers. I believe they originate from the jewelry trade where they are used for cleaning rings and the like. From the photos I've seen they do a really nice job but they aren't cheap starting at $200 http://www.ottofrei.com/store/home.php?cat=3577
  13. Looks to me like you need to know the product number to find anything. I wish Tamiya would say what the kit is next to the product number so you could browse through the lists and just click on what interests you. They could learn a lot from the way these guys have got their site set up http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/
  14. That is a great site for manuals. Its great to be able to see what is in the kit box before purchase. Tamiya USA have put up 11 pages of their manuals http://www.tamiyausa.com/pdf/manuals/index.php?page=1&dir=
  15. I've been using Alclad for years and have always just mixed the different shades together if I wanted something out of the ordinary. I've never added enamel to Alclad to tint it. Mixing dissimilar paints, in this case enamel to a lacquer could cause issues and if you already have other shades of alclad why take the risk.
  16. I have found spraying a coat of isolator to be the best way of eliminating ghosting. I've been using a product for years now called Barcoat which has given me excellent results. Another option is BIN Primer Sealer. These products simply stop the hot solvents in the paint from getting through to the plastic. http://www.u-pol.com/product-cat/80/barcoatâ„¢-quick-drying-isolator.htm http://www.hex.co.uk...pol/barcoat.pdf
  17. It has worked for me. I used to spray gloss black enamel then chrome alclad and I've had the black turn sticky too. These days I spray black primer then a coat of catalized clear coat followed by alclad and problem has gone away. With the number of different manufactures of clear coats and different brands of tires you really need to do your own tests before taking it for granted that it will work with what you are working with
  18. HobbyLink Japan are now listing the Enzo as a March release with a preorder 20% off price of $310.50 at current exchange rates. http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM12047
  19. Tommy Ivos' Showboat makes an appearance in that movie. The sight of all 4 wheels going up in smoke off the line has remained with me for decades. I bought the DVD ages ago and there is some good high quality drag racing from back in the day on it.
  20. Hiroboy now has a list of Aventador colors available http://www.hiroboy.c...a6f8bb64dc17616
  21. I just went to HLJ and the built diecast is $567 on current exchange rates so its going to be interesting to see how that price is going to compare with this new unbuilt version when it comes to market in Japan. I have yet to find any date as to when this will become available. Have to keep an eye on HLJ new announcements page.
  22. Tamiya america is now showing the new kits on its website including the re release of the Ferrari 312B in 1/12. The Ferrari Enzo is an assembly kit of their previous semi assembled die cast model The MSRP of the Enzo $610... ouch!!!! http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/coming_soon.php?sub-id=2000
  23. The Nuremberg Toy Fair opens tomorrow and the tamiya blog will be reporting live so it will be interesting to see what Tamiya comes up with. They will be re releasing the 1/12 Lotus 72 as well. Its been decades since this one was last in Tamiyas' catalogue http://tamiyablog.com/category/future-releases/
  24. I'd love to see it as a plastic kit but its most likely another of Tamiyas' very expensive semi assembled premium die cast models. Tamiya already have an Enzo in that range so I'm thinking this new 'Special Edition' will be another version of that.
