Which is the better gold lacquer?
Roncla replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I got an alternative to Tamiya gold due to the cost of Tamiya Sprays down here. A can costs US $12.86 or $16 of my local dollars at my local hobby shop. I can import the Zero paints for less and they go a lot further too, just requiring 1 or 2 light coats being a basecoat/ clearcoat paint. I would be happy to use Tamiyas' gold and the rest of the range if I didn't have the Zero option...... Though I'll never be happy at the local Tamiya pricing structure. -
I just received some auto paint from Zero. Airfreighted all the way from England out to NZ without an issue. My last order from HobbyLink Japan was intercepted by the Japanese Postal Service and returned to Hobbylink because it contained a 40ml container of Tamiyas' Mark Fit decal softner which the Japanese Postal Service deemed to be a dangerous liquid. Go figure.

Which is the better gold lacquer?
Roncla replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Decanting Tamiyas' TS-21 to a airbrush solved the issues I had in the past with the way their gold handled. Using it straight from the can I found the metallic particles wanted to flood unless you dusted the paint on from quite a distance. These days I use Zero paints # ZP-1094 Gold which is ridiculously easy to use. http://www.hiroboy.c...roducts_id=2509 -
A pair of very nice builds. Congrats.

As I stated in the other Strada Sports post that is running I'm still waiting for the parts I ordered back on 5 october 2011. My Visa is showing a charge from Strada was made last week. Thats 10 months with all my emails going unanswered The lack of communication has been disconcerting.

I placed an order with Strada Sports back on 5 Oct 2011. He emailed 3 days later to say one thing was out of stock and was about a week away. I've never had a reply to any of my emails since. Last week I logged in to my bank account and I see that Strada Sports has made a charge to my Visa. I'm still in the dark but can only presume after 10 months my order has finally shipped. All my previous orders with Strada had gone off without a hitch.

Fujimi Mclaren MP4-12C FINALY in plastic kit!
Roncla replied to Plasticfanatic's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I've had too many issues with Hobby Design as well to be purchasing anything more of them. Its great to see Fujimi step up and put this Mclaren in Plastic. There was a thread recently on Aoshimas' Face Book page where it was said they are looking in to doing the Mclaren F1 which would sit along side this MP4-12C nicely. -
Thats a cool, old school style build. Congrats on scoring the win. Well deserved.

Thats a well written tutorial Steve. I've been doing the same for years and its a excellent technique for strengthening and aligning things up.

I finally got my order from HobbyLink Japan. After they had posted it to me the Japanese Postal Service intercepted the box and returned it to them because it contained, and I quote ...... " A liquid item which the Japanese Post Office considers dangerous material " The item they are referring to was a 40ml container of Tamiya Mark Fit. http://www.tamiya.co...k_fit/index.htm

I built up this one from the Hot Rod issue more years ago than I care to remember. What Mark says covers all the same issues I ran in to. I did machine up a couple of bits and pieces and replaced the exhaust pipes and intakes with aluminum tube. It builds up in to a good replica of the original. The 1964 movie ' Bikini Beach ' as a great clip of the car in action.

Very nice build. Great paint and the contrasting white walls look so right. -
Revell/Monogram 1/25 '29 Ford Rat Rod 3'n1?
Roncla replied to IronMunkie's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I've ordered off Model Roundup in the past and never had an issue though their new shipping calculator has put me off dealing with them recently. These days I mainly deal with Plastic models or Model Express. its never economic to get just one kit shipped though. Getting three kits for example isn't three times dearer. its all to do with size and weight of the package and since the kits weigh very little adding extra kits to the box will only add a few $ to the cost. -

X2 to that. What about Tamiya stepping in and adding to their defunct Historic Car series ? I know I'm a dreamer -

Revell Germany Ferrari SA Aperta & 599 GTO
Roncla replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There are a lot of the classic Ferraris that are long over due to be done in plastic. The 250 Lusso being one of my favorites. I know Model Factory Hiro make a selection but their prices are getting way out of reach due to the strength of the japan yen. In the mean time I've put Revells' GTO on my must have list. -

You Say The Heat's Gettin' to Ya?
Roncla replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We are currently in the middle of Winter and I would enjoy a bit of heat. During a walk to the shops on Tuesday I ended up getting drenched in a torrential downpour.
