I'll definitely check that out. You can always buy Norms' parts knowing they will be to the highest standard. -
Don Edmunds Supermodified (reissue)
Roncla replied to RancheroSteve's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I just placed an order for this kit yesterday. I did build one back in the 60s but had long forgotten what the parts looked like. Thanks for the review. Can anyone advise where one could get a set of better tyres ? The slicks look out of place on a dirt track car. -
Estimate price is 600 euro or US $818 on todays currency converter. Available from 3rd quarter this year. The website says that includes 19% German VAT which can be deducted for export http://shop.autographmodel.com/Pocher-1-8-model-kit-Lamborghini-Aventador-HK100-Orange-Argos

"Holy Grail" Models?
Roncla replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hobby Search and HobbyLink Japan both show the Hasegawa 250 TR as being in stock. -
That is excellent. Everything blends together so well

Something that has always intrigued me and I've seen some excellent models using the concept is to do a ' cut away '. These can be seen at the real car shows. Half of the body is as normal and the other half has been removed so you can see the insides. You get a better view without any possible distortion that you may get through a clear plastic body and without the mold release marks and the like which always spoil a clear plastic body

I've had one of those for about 18 months now and have sprayed everything from water based paint to 2K clearcoats at it. The only issue with it is it could do with more airflow to remove the overspray. When your clear coating a body and have a wide pattern on the airbrush it can't really keep up. Its fine or spraying smaller parts like engines / interiors where you would have the spray pattern turned down. My advise would be to get something more powerful.

It is at its best with everything open so I wouldn't sweat about the gaps. That looks great.

Roncla replied to 935k3's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Tamiya are also listing a reissue of the 1/24 Zakspeed Capri in Wurth colors this time. Hopefully it will be molded in white rather than the black of the last issue. -

Nice build. The retro colors really set it off. -
By memory there was talk of a digital edition of ModelCarsMag some time back. Has there been any developments on that ?

Carbon fiber wheels... $15K per set!
Roncla replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder if these wheels could be repaired if you were careless enough cosmetically damage one ? I guess the cost of them would be enough to ensure you brushed up on your parking skills. -
I got my Monza off Valley Plaza Hobbies in the early 90s for 200 bucks. They were on special at the time. I can't remember what normal retail was.

Questions about a kit I picked up at a tag sale this summer
Roncla replied to giants3817's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I have found that tamiyas' plastic friendly lacquer thinner will remove anything. I just scrub with a tooth brush as its too expensive to make a bath. I only use it when the usual brake fluid/ Isopropyl Alcohol has difficulty removing the paint due to the cost. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=87077 -

Failed tutorial - but still kinda cool
Roncla replied to Jantrix's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I can remember that Car model article from back in the day though my copy of the mag has long gone. This is a link to a Hydrographics kit. It uses a similar technique and while it may or may not suitable for our models the range of patterns available and the parts that can be covered is something I found interesting. The instructional video may hold some tips that can be of use to us. http://www.mydipkit.com/index.html -

The whole idea of this was a publicity stunt to draw the local populations attention to the regions animal welfare organization ( SPCA ) and the homeless dogs confined within. The dogs in the video were all inmates of the shelter and have since found loving homes. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10851829

Roncla replied to cwobeaman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've got a number of books here I've purchased over time and four in particular that I've always considered to be well worth the price of admission are... Building and Detailing Scale Model Motorcars by Bill Coulter Building Better Scale Model Cars and Trucks by Pat Covert The Modeller's Guide to Scale Automotive Finishes by Pat Covert Custom Car Modeling by Mark S Gustavson I purchased these new when they were released back in the 1990s. I don't know what the current availability would be -
condensation problems in air gun
Roncla replied to rustisacolour's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You need a moisture trap. Readily available from a hardware store like Bunnings. -
I've used gravity and suction airbrushes and haven't been able to see any difference. An internal mix airbrush does make things easier though as it atomizes the paint better allowing you to lay down lighter coats.
