  1. Coupla shims on the motor mounts might be an easy way to fix that...
  2. Hey Claude! Ahhh! That’s why I recognized it! I couldn’t put my finger on where I’d seen that design before. Way cool! Wish I’d got it myself! Thanks for jogging my memory!
  3. Perfect! Just the set of instructions I needed! ? (I’m not above trying to figure things out myself, but it certainly helps seeing what the experts did!)
  4. This looks great right out of the gate - I really like those wheels especially! Good start Joe!
  5. Nice find! I hadn’t seen that one before...is it based on a real 1:1? I’ve been adding to my weathering arsenal lately - I’d used my wife’s watercolor pencils so much that she was irritated at me always having them put away somewhere where she couldn’t find them (she’s a full-time artist, so I guess she needs her art stuff sometimes). Found a set of 72 (crucially with 10-15 brown and rust colors) for under $20, and also picked up some crackle paint that I’d seen used to GREAT effect in this old post: Excited to do another old and crusty build now!
  6. I once worked for an artist in Brooklyn - most of my job consisted of signing ‘his’ signature on stuff for him and spray painting canvases and stuff for him. Was a pretty easy gig for good pay, until Covid happened and put a stop to it... Guess he’s signing his own autographs now ?
  7. I’ve been wanting to try a build using the Deuce frame from the Revell 29/30 Ford kits instead of their ACTUAL Deuce frame, and with DSC coming up it seemed like a good excuse. Used an AMT Deuce roadster body and grille, with the Revell frame (zeed out front) and a Revell Hemi backdated with some older valve covers. Tried to do a fairly simple flame-job but still have something eyecatching and put my new lathe to good use making some parts where I could. Was a fun build - will definitely be trying using that NEW Deuce frame under a hot-rod project! Thanks for looking!
  8. Well, I kinda got on a roll with this one over the weekend when I realized everything was painted and mostly finished being detailed and all I really needed to do was just glue it all together...pics Under Glass soon as I upload them!
  9. That steering wheel is really impressive - I've been wondering if I had the skills (and equipment) to make one of these on my Taig. I suspect I DO have the equipment, but will be found lacking currently in the required skills...
  10. Never mind - they're out now. Next dumb question for anyone who's going to be building one of these - what planning to use for the suspension components?
  11. Came here to post that Model Roundup has them too...I'll be picking a couple of sets up for sure!
  12. Get another body so you can do both!
  13. I forget exactly which one it is, but one of the AMT Fast and Furious kits has Z-shaped driveshafts :D
  14. AWESOME! I’ve subscribed to and lost-interest in the Motor Trend online thing a few times - I wonder if this is one of the shows you can watch for free?
  15. I actually sometimes like the “how could that even work?!” look to a car, but only when it actually DOES work somehow - it’s like a magic trick! Real life example - this 1:1 Chevy that I found online at some car show wherever: I’ve gotta assume it’s airbagged, but who knows? It’s a cool magic trick to get it sitting on the deck like that! That said, my modeler’s conscience won’t allow me to build one sitting this low without trying to figure out how it could work for real and replicate that somewhat (which I might just mess with on the 57 that I’m building right now)
  16. Picked up a set of these plastic sanding sticks from Hobby Lobby - they work GREAT for sanding into round corners and hard-to-reach-spots:
  17. Belated birthday gift: Looks cool - not a whole lot of parts in the box, but I’m sure I’ll manage to overcomplicate it anyway so it takes me months to build ?
  18. Good tip! I’ll check my local Michael’s tomorrow! Thanks!
  19. Some cool stuff there! I like the Cappuccino and the Figaro (although I’d look dumb driving either), and the Lotus is nice too! Did Batman set any shrubs on fire? ?
  20. Couple of eye-catchers in the parking lot at the racetrack tonight: And I saw this at the gas station when I was on my way there (but then, weirdly, never saw it at at the track)
  21. My wife sent me this pic this week and asked if I wanted it - heck yes! They just got those Polar Lights Beetle kits at my local store too - they have those AND the Revell kit (which I have already)...how do you like that Polar Lights kits kit @HomerS?
  22. Visited the South Bend Speedway this evening, which is my current local 1/4 mile pavement track...been meaning to go for a while and they had vintage modifieds running and some other cool stuff tonight so I got my “backside trackside” as their slogan goes... Thought you all would enjoy some pics maybe...100+ photos in this Fotki link with a few cool teasers below:
  23. There’s an RC store in Valpo but that’s about it without driving out of town. Hobby Lobby AND Michael’s across the street from each other probably make it hard for an independent store to survive...but I’ve found a few cool little stores outside of Valpo at least!
  24. My wife surprised me with my favorite paint rack from Hobby Lobby today ? Just gotta finish ‘restocking’ it (with all the paint that came from on this rack in the first place ?)
  25. I just cut them about as close as I could get to the flared end - took a while but I managed to make them all without one pinging off into space ? Couple more little bits of progress made...now I REALLY gotta get hustling to get this thing done... Made some brake lines, secured with some little photo etched brackets: Machined some air filters and a bracket for the distributor and started on the engine: Doesn’t look much like a car that will be ready for DSC in two weeks - I’m pleased with how the frame’s coming together tho! More soon!
