  1. Seems like you guys are doing great with the relaunch! Keep up the good work!
  2. Ohh, those Herb Deeks wheels will make a WORLD of difference to how this ends up looking. Good call!
  3. Thanks everyone! I’d hate to have to steer the thing - no idea how they intend for the steering to work? I’m pretending this thing has in-board disk brakes and some kind of arrangement like a Bobcat to make it turn, but who knows. I’m also pretending there’s an air ride system hidden under the body there ?? Got some base color laid down right before bed last night - sure went to a lot of effort to make this neon green slammer into a slightly different neon green slammer ?? Been trying to figure out a cool idea I had for the paintjob - excited to get home and start masking and airbrushing...more soon!
  4. Ohh, from looking at the finish I would've assumed you'd cleared it - looks great! I like the Testors enamel clear cut with lacquer thinner - I haven't experienced any troubles with yellowing, although I understand that they'll do that over very light shades. Great project, keep going!
  5. Looking good so far! Am I right in thinking this kit has these little clear disks that are meant to represent the spokes on the wheels?
  6. Shot some neon green Createx: Sure is bright! ?
  7. That looks stunning so far! Nice work! Which brand of enamel clear do you like?
  8. I’ve had this AMT Rod-Rageous slammer for a couple of years now, and kept pulling it out and trying a paint job on it, then kinda changing my mind, then getting it nearly done but the kit stance and wheels were horrible and so on and so forth. So, trying this thing at least a third time (with some better tools and a better plan...) This is the kit as it comes (probably my fastest ever build! ?) Kinda dorky and weird - and I got stuck for a year or so trying to think what I could do for wheels to improve it, and settled on a nice set of directional Boyd tri-spokes from the Aluma-Coupe kit. I mocked up one with rim that I machined...now we’re talking! I get get on board with that! Made another three - I’ll keep the AMT treaded tires for the front but switch in some more conventional ones for the rear. I really wanted to get the nose way down in the ground, and couldn’t figure out a better way than hacking it all apart and moving those wishbones up a bunch...so here goes: Sliced and diced and tacked back into place with a rudimentary jig to keep everything aligned: Adding some material to replace the kerf losses from the saw, and to fill the gaps: And now it should sit something like this: Way better! I’ll actually have the tail end about where nature (AMT) intended, but getting the nose down will help a bunch I think! A little filler to level out all the seams: And a blast of primer to see what all needs fixing before paint! Got a really fun paint idea for this one, once I get my head around how to achieve it...more soon!
  9. Wrapped up a few little bits on this one, this weekend - made a couple of bomber seats (changed my mind on what I had made before), fitted the windshield and a couple of little bits and it’s about done! Thanks for following along everybody!
  10. Nice Miata!!! Love it!
  11. I picked up a bunch of old 80s and 90s Scale Auto Enthusiast magazines this week, and honed right in on an old Tim Boyd article on building a Model A woody street rod. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw a Chebby engine behind the front grille
  12. I’ve been thinking of doing one of those - I need to find a good match for that green color, in case anyone reads this and has a lead...
  13. In fairness to FSM, this issue happened to me on the Scale Auto site too - never did manage to get an account to work on there despite being a long-term subscriber, and ditto the forum. I did try all the obvious tricks to get it working (try a different computer, different browser, tried on an iPad, tried an iPhone, did what their support people said, etcetera etcetera) but I just gave up in the end. I was never so desperate to read an article that I couldn't wait for the magazine to come out, but its definitely something they'll want to get fixed if they're trying to push the online aspect more.
  14. No; he did move into a new house, but the doors are too narrow for his work bench to fit thru, so that’s causing further delays (no, really)
  15. Wow, that was a long title! I felt like building something for a contest, but not necessarily GOING to a contest (even if a bunch of them weren’t cancelled anyway). I saw the Desert Scale Classic is all-online this year so I figured I’d try throwing something together for that... Also this year I wanted to build an AMT Deuce, and there was some graffiti right near our local station in New York that I’d always see that just read “Joker Is Wild” (?) and I thought that’d be a cool showcar name. Throw those all together and here comes another project! I picked up the Pro Shop AMT Deuce and figured that would make a nice change from the much more popular Revell kit if I’m going with a 32. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say there’s nothing too “pro” about the frame in this kit. Was kinda hoping it was the one WITHOUT all the moulded-in junk... I do have a bunch of the optional Deuce frames from the Revell 29 kit tho... The AMT axle drops right in there too! Now, I know I’d be better off just building a Revell 32 Roadster kit, but I kinda wanna do something with this AMT body, and I’ve been wondering how the new Revell frame would would with any of those older bodies, so here’s a chance to try it out... I zee’d the Revell frame at the front to get the nose down somewhat, made a new crossmember for mock-up purposes and then modified the AMT axle to accept the Revell 29 fined brake drums. Oh, and drilled it out too: I’d like to use the AMT Hemi that comes in the kit...but the Revell take is much newer and better too so I’ll be going with that too I think: Quick mock-up - it’s a start! More soon! ?
  16. If you’d painted it in enamel back then it would nearly be dry by now! ? Good start, it looks cool - what’s the plan?
  17. Great start! You know it’ll be cool in the end if just the body and wheels mocked up look great before you’ve even started working on the thing!
  18. Remaking a set of handlebars for the MPC Mail Box trike from metal. Not done yet, but I was stuck on the main bars but made some progress this week:
  19. Same for me - I gave up trying to get it to work a while back. They told me the same thing, and even had me set up a new account but I still can’t get in there. Which is a pity, seeing as they published a build review of mine earlier this month but I’ve got no way of seeing it ??‍♂️
  20. Not as disappointed as all the LEGIT customers who believed Steve Scott’s snake oil sales pitch for a kit that will never exist. Disgusting. Now (on the Facebook group for people interested in the kit) he’s blaming Wall Street bankers for ruining the economy for the delay in starting the kit (!) and, of course, Covid. Oh, and he’s lost all his savings somehow, so don’t bother asking for a refund ?
  21. A little tiny bit more progress on this one - next job was remaking the handlebars. I tried a few times to make a set with aluminum tube but kept kinking it, so finally got smart and just ordered some solid 1/16th aluminum bar instead. Bent up a single length of it, made that flat square brace, used some rubber tube for the grips and ground down the back of a skull bead and polished it a little for a fun little detail piece: Need to make the clutch and brake levers and figure out the best way to mount them to the forks I made previously. Even unfinished they look better than the kit part tho I think!
  22. I’m excited to see some color on this one...and I like the improvements to that crossmember! Adds a lot!
  23. That paint looks amazing, nice polishing job!
  24. Roadster pickup would be cool too! I'm sure all these options are available in resin anyway, that said...
