  1. I got inspired to build a T Touring after seeing @tim boyd’s excellent box stock build of the old AMT kit on his Fotki page: Tim built a much older issue of this kit than I had here, so it has some different (cooler) parts than the later issue I had here, but I figured I could do something inspired by his example anyway. Having just moved and set up a new workshop here I wanted to do a nice simple box stock (ish) build for once, so here we are... Built the kit almost as AMT intended except for swapping out the tires for some parts-box ones, swapped the rear wheels for some chrome steelies (one of the kit ones was junk in the kit I ordered), wired the engine and painted some vertical flames inspired by an Indian Larry bike I saw earlier in the year. Not a super complex full-detail build, but this was super fun and just fell together! Love these old AMT kits - and they build up to a great looking model! Thanks for looking (and to Tim for allowing me to post his photo, and for the inspiration!)
  2. Thanks fellas! Nearly done on this one - painted the windshield frame, made some glass and shot some color on the last couple of little parts this morning, then polished out the body: Went to Walgreens to collect my photo prints - I did some research and Indiana will allow you to run an era-correct plate on your car so I found a 1927 plate and got one printed up Got the interior parts in place... And that’s about a wrap on this one! Photos under glass soon! Thanks to all who commented and followed along!
  3. I had a bunch of packages arrive today - nice Mail day! Wanted to build this variation of the Revell 32s for a while: A while back I picked up a whole stack of Monogram 32 Ford (the tool before the one above) bodies, fenders and engines but I was missing most of the rest of the parts...eBay parts lot to the rescue! Got what I need to build one of those older roadsters now at least... Whenever I’m scratchbuilding I always seem to be short on axles (front and rear) and engines so I found a junkyard lot of those, and a tonne of other parts too: And then finally my wife surprised me with a nice framed photo she took of our local hot rod hang out diner: Made out like a bandit today! ???
  4. This DOES look cool!!! The reviews on the Michael’s site aren’t amazing, but you don’t know how much skill the average person leaving reviews on Michael’s website have at this stuff... I’d like to try one! If people can find a good use for those old Mattel machines I’m sure we’d find a use for this!
  5. Ohhh right, yes - my mistake
  6. Huh - that Depot Hack T was only reissued last year...must have been a good seller!
  7. Today’s one and only interesting sighting (except a new Miata, which is likely only interesting to me ?)
  8. Yeah, I THINK there’s plenty of space over there - haven’t noticed anything hanging up on anything else yet...that’ll happen once I’m about to glue it together I’m sure ? A little bit of progress today...shot the headlamp lenses with a little mist of candy yellow, just because, then got them mounted to the grill and rad and got them mounted to the frame: I had an idea to make a flying eyeball emblem for the top of the radiator shell and there’s almost all you need in the kit already with the temp gauge that they supply you with. Used a half-sphere bead for the eyeball, the eyeball decal from the new Revell 29 kit and after a little (lot) setting solution and a coat of clear ended up with this: Looks cool on there I think - just a fun little detail: If you look through the headlamp lenses you can see the bulbs I added too - drilled out the stock buckets and added a short length of clear plastic tube to add a little interest. Oh, and scratchbuilt a starter crank, for my own amusement. Tomorrow’s excitement will (probably) be the interior tub...soon as the glue dries on the embossing powder. Today’s end-of-day mock-up: More soon!
  9. Ohh, I like these little Fiats - I always liked the original 500 and drove this newer generation a couple of times as rentals. Good in the city, they’re fun to drive! I’ll be watching!
  10. Oh, the holes line up huh? I hadn’t studied them close enough yet to figure out how to get the interior lined up the with the frame yet...sounds like you’re right! Pin it and stick it! ? ? That makes things a LOT easier!
  11. That’s super helpful - thanks Alan! I wonder if I have those parts? That would make mounting the body easier...I didn’t think I’d seen them but now I’m doubting myself. Appreciate you taking the time to photograph those for me!!
  12. A good thrift store find by my wife today - she’s so awesome at finding stuff I’ll use or enjoy...all the airbrush paints are unopened, $10 for the set, plus a pack of some model railroad lumber that I’m sure I’ll find a use for some day... Oh, and this month’s free hot rod mag arrived in the rack at the local supermarket - do any other areas have cool free local car mags like these?
  13. Yes sir! Trying to build this one (mostly) box stock! The kit comes with a stock T engine, plus the Frontenac head and the various hot-rod parts I’m using (tube axle, different wheels etc.). That said, I’m actually only using the front wheels from the kit and swapped in a pair of chromed steelies for the back end...one of the rears was bust in the box... Frame-assembly day today! Using some 5-minute epoxy to get the front and rear suspension in place - the fit is a little ‘loose’ so this gives me a little working time to get everything square and true. Engine, suspension and a few photo-etch bolt heads in place: And back the right side up: Wheels on (for a mock-up anyway) - it’s a cute little frame! I like it! And a mock-up with the body, because I’ve been waiting to see how it’ll look on there: I like it! I’ll let the glue on the frame setup properly overnight before messing with it too much more, but I like how it’s coming together! More soon!
  14. Did anyone get their final SA yet, by the way? I’m still waiting, and haven’t had a FSM for a while either...despite @PatW having got his already all the way over the pond ??
  15. It was ironic who was dropping the N-bomb, considering his username ??
  16. Aww yeah, that extra work on those rotors makes all the difference! Looking great!
  17. Thanks buddy! I think you’d definitely get more views with your own thread - people seem to stop looking at mine by the time I get to my third of fourth page of posting too many updates about what tiny little bit of progress I made that week ? Thank you sir! Speaking of tiny bits of progress... De-shone (de-shined? Un-shinified?) the tires... Started painting some little interior parts - used the stock steering column and wheel, but I’ll change the shifter for a wire one with one of my little resin skull-heads: Made some valve stems for the wheels (thin gauge wire dipped in some black paint): And wired up the engine: And fitted the carb and a fuel line (not that it’s super visible anyway, with all the silvers and chromes on there... Got some little touch-ups and further detail painting to do on the engine now that I’ve finished doing those little bits, and now that’s far enough along I can get the frame together! More soon!
  18. I didn’t know that! I’ve been wondering what actually locates the body/tub to the frame - is there any chance of a picture of those when you get a moment Alan? And yes, I too plead guilty as charged ? I LOVE a deviation - that other 27 that you posted is another version I’d like to try for myself! HAHA! See - the circle of life! ??. Have you got a Hobby Lobby by you, Dennis? The reissue of this kit will come in at about $18 if you do...the store near me just got a batch of these in stock last week.
  19. Wow - that built example doesn’t make me wanna build one. Look at the top of those doors! ? That said, I’m sure there’s some people out there who have been dying for a reissue of this and are pleased to see it back, so I won’t knock Atlantis for reissuing it...
  20. Me too! The editor would edit the posts as though it were the magazine ?. I’d find a little note at the bottom of a post saying “unnecessarily long post” or something ? Then they brought in the 3-picture rule, where you could only do 3 pictures per post (but could post multiple posts with additional pictures). Apparently the intention was to save bandwidth, so I figured I’d help by instead of posting, say, 9 photos, I’d edit them into a collage with 3 images each (with a combined smaller size than 9 singles) and post that instead Got an email one day saying I’d been banned for a month for “circumventing the 3-picture rule” ?
  21. Really gorgeous work!! That axle looks incredible!
  22. I’m not SUPER surprised - but you’d figure maybe that if it’s all up and running may as well leave it up there a while...if only because one of the perks of being an SA subscriber was meant to be having access to all the exclusive and extra content on the site for the lifetime of your subscription. Unless they plan on moving that stuff over, but I seem to recall there’s quite a bit of it on there...
  23. Do it!! I’d love to see another of these built! It’s like Hot Rod Chinese Whispers - @tim boyd starts us off, then I do my take and then you do one and before you know it @Dennis Lacy is building one too, each a little different to the last ?? I’m using a Silhouette Portrait scrapbook cutter to cut Oramask 813 masking film - but nothing to stop you doing it by hand either! I wish I was good enough to consistently get what I want with a pencil, but a computer helps me at least make things symmetrical and repeatable easily...thanks for the kind words Alan!
  24. Thank you sir, I appreciate you letting me post back to your build here. I forget where I first saw this one (Scale Auto, most likely?) but it definitely stuck in my consciousness I think - as soon as I picked this kit up I knew I wanted to do something loosely similar to yours! Thanks buddy! Believe me, it took a lot of restraint to stick with the 4-banger...I really wanted to do something with a cool vintage Hemi in, but then you need to build a frame, and an interior and the everything-else...saving that idea for another build later on. This hopped-up T mill is pretty cool though, and you don’t really get to use a T engine in much aside from a T... Whenever I do a couple of complex builds I feel like doing something box-stock (or close...) - and then when I do a box stock build I think “man, this is a lot of just prepping parts and priming parts and painting parts” ?. I feel like all that I’ve done for the last few days is sand, prep, prime, repeat. Got almost everything in paint now though - including a bunch of parts today: More work to come on those shortly... Got five coats of lacquer on the body - I have been using Testors enamel clear lately but with this being a white car that wasn’t going to work...pretty happy with the shine of the lacquer anyway (not that it’s very obvious over that pearl white paint) And another small deviation from kit was to make a smooth firewall like Tim’s build that inspired this one... I’m not sure if my kit was missing this part, or it was on the sprue with the other cool parts I’m missing compared this this earlier version...but nothing a little styrene sheet couldn’t overcome; More soon, soon as I’ve done more!
  25. Exactly!! Not every step of a build is post-worthy (although I guess shooting to make every little thing WORTH showing off isn’t a bad aim) - which is why this thread is cool! Tiny bit of progress on the T Touring I’m working on right now - shot the fourth, fifth and sixth coats of lacquer on the body - got it nice and smooth and shiny! Pity you can’t really tell, what with it being a white body - but I’m pretty happy with the finish so far! I’d usually use Testors enamel gloss, but I don’t want this thing turning yellow on me a little way down the line... And shot a bunch of other little bits and pieces for the same build, ready for further airbrushing or detailing...
