  1. You guys would lead me astray and have me channel this thing huh? That’s how simple builds get more complicated ?? In day 7 of messing with this body now - keep doing a little, letting the glue, Bondo or primer setup and then getting it closer the next day for another try and rinse and repeat...definitely getting close now though, once I figure out a nice way to fix the door gaps and get them perfect... Had the urge to paint something today, so picked the wheels as a quick easy project to shoot some color on. Lately I’ve liked Rustoleum’s silver, which is a kinda polished aluminum finish when dry, with some Vallejo natural steel misted over the top for a nice polished steel kind of look. Gave the vents a black wash and I’ll give the lutnugs some attention tomorrow and add valve stems and whatever else I can figure out to do to them: Whilst they’re drying, I spent an hour or two buffing the shine off the tires - I want to mess with textures and finishes a little on this build and see what I can do to add to the realism a little...the front tires are the kit ones but the rears got jettisoned in favor of some Goodyear slicks: Still some more buffing to go on the fronts but my arm got tired ? And final mini project today was getting the frame smooth and prepped for paint and then contemplating how to fix the holes in the airbags that these Revell kits all have. In the interests of TRYING to keep this thing close to how Revell intended I was going to fill the gaps and sand them, but honestly it’s quicker, easier and probably will look better to just slice them off, add pins and make some real rubber bags from o-rings...so that’s what I did ? As you can see, I’m doing a GREAT job of just building what’s there right out of the box so far ??. I’m REALLY trying though - at least, my wife says I’m trying anyway ? Oh, and picked out some colors - I imagined this thing in a nice pearl white with some kind of yellow or gold flames, seeing as I haven’t done a flame-job for a couple of builds: A more interesting update next time, I promise! ?
  2. Does he accept their 40% off coupon though? ? Went scouting for kits again this weekend at our local Ollie’s...not much car stuff to be found aside from the Testor’s metal bodied pre-paints and a Scooby Doo bus: In good news they seem to have the cure for the Corona at our local store, so that’s helpful ???
  3. Couple of cool sightings from sunny Indiana this past week;
  4. Nice! I like it! If there’s ever a build where you can get away with a paint flaw it’s an oval car...?‍♂️?
  5. Love a roundy-roundy racer! I’ll be watching!
  6. Wasn’t that same car also metallic red in one of the movies? Bond certainly liked his Lotuses when he was Roger Moore
  7. I’ve got two hot rod builds on the bench (actually, stashed away in Buddig meat containers) with paint drying before I can do the next steps, so whilst I’m waiting here goes another one. I had the idea of doing a quick box-stock Revell Deuce build to give me a chance to test my ‘modelling basics’ skills...but then that plan went out of the window immediately when I decided to try a roof chop on this thing ? Kit body: I wanted to give it a healthy, but sensible, chop but I also didn’t want one of those little mail-slot rear Windows that you can get if you’re not careful. Marked out the chop with my trusty Ticonderoga pencil: Removed the roof, leaving the rear window intact so I can lower around it: Mocking it back up: Because I didn’t lean the pillars back and do it the ‘easy’ way I have a gap to fill...but a little styrene strip and some filler later and I’m not too far off: I try and use an absolute minimum of filler when I’m doing work like this, but it does help fixing all those chops and gaps nicely. Someday I’ll be good enough not to need the filler ? Some primer and sanding in progress...got a few more rounds of this before I’ll be ready for paint And a quick mock-up to give an idea on how this is gonna look on it’s wheels... Just getting started with this one but I like the look so far! More soon!
  8. Thank you both! @Mr. Metallic - good idea, I should post a thread on this stuff and see what I get back. Meanwhile, a tiny bit more progress on this...added those tiny little decals to the gauge cluster - was pleased to get those in place without losing one (or more). Looks like the speedo needs calibrating! ? Because I chopped the grille shell, I needed to make a new insert (or chop down the kit one, but this seemed more fun...). Cut a frame from some styrene sheet, which I’ll paint and cut a fine mesh to hide behind it. This might get replaced with something else if I don’t like it when it’s done, but we’ll see... And I was going to polish the body today but I spotted a little chip in the color coat on the passenger door and another little mark on one of the fenders...probably a little damage incurred from our cross-country move last month. No biggie, flattened the enamel clear down and touched the affected spots with a little more of the Boyd red to fix them. Not ideal, because I need to re-clear those couple of parts now and wait before polishing them again, but I’d rather do that than have an irritating little flaw that bugs me for the rest of all time... More soon!
  9. Insert joke about the can being out of scale, the ring pull being the wrong kind for that year of can and how it’s drinkable but it needs a LOT of work right out of the box to make an acceptable libation ??
  10. I’m the same! Picked up one just because the box was cool! ?
  11. I saw Eric Ritz, a builder I admire a lot and learn a lot from, say something very similar about how he approaches a build. It really stuck with me! Great tip!
  12. Posted this elsewhere on the site already - but Tamiya kit-box inspired beer ?
  13. Hummingbirds on our new bird feeder ?
  14. That was fast - nice work on the weathering! Looks great!!
  15. This is super helpful info - I’ve tried this technique a couple of times with some different brands of paint and not had much success...looks like I know what to try next! Nice Ala Kart too!
  16. Picked up some Tamiya-kit-box themed beer after doing a double take in our local supermarket ? I was like “WAIT are those Tamiya kits?! SWEET! Oh no, it’s just beer. WAIT, is that beer? Sweet!” ??
  17. Got inspired by this thread to look at those kits on eBay...and found this ?
  18. Painted this monstrosity ? Got a few little bits and pieces of kits that I’ve started or messed with a little that are gnawing away at me for not finishing them...this AMT snapper included. I’ve got a plan though, I think...
  19. This is a really sharp looking build, nice job I too love the remote filter - nice touch! That and the addition of the brake master cylinder too. Super “sanitary” build, as they used to say! ??
  20. Tiny update - my experimental clay door pockets dried fine and took paint fine too! Scratchbuilt a little firewall ready for paint and detailing: And now, whilst I wait a couple more weeks before I dare attempt polishing that thick ol’ enamel tractor paint I can start detailing some of the assemblies ready to mount to the chassis (which is also in thick ol’ tractor paint so it’ll be a little while before THAT’s ready to mess with too ??) More soon!
  21. What brand of paint was that pink color?
  22. Technically didn’t see these today - took me a few days to get around to uploading them...a few from the local Labor Day parade. There’s way too many to clog up the forum with, so there’s a bunch more pics here for people into old Fords, fire trucks, rat rods, hot rods and 60s sedans...
  23. Really like this! Nice job - super clean and well thought out!
  24. Oh man, I totally would’ve paid $7 for that kit if I saw it on eBay - I’ve been watching for one for parts for a couple of builds. Anyhoo, I’m glad you didn’t sell it because that little pickup is KILLER man!! Really nice job on that! Well done (but not crazy-overdone) weathering and really nice stance. I’d be pleased if it was mine! ??
  25. There’s a pretty cool one I’m going to take part in hosted on Instagram (although I’m sure some of the builds will end up on here)... https://instagram.com/34fordbuildoff?igshid=sthzbjnw6kim Got nearing 30 entrants so far...should be fun!
