  1. I’ve been waiting for 5 years to build this kit. I saw one of the original issues in Rudy’s in Queens when it was first released, and I figured ‘meh, I don’t wanna schlepp it around all day - I’ll grab one next time’…and by the time it was next-time, you couldn’t get them any more (at least not for the kinda price I was willing to pay…) So, I’ve been excited to get one of these on the bench! I think Tim Boyd called this kit a ‘bench clearer’ - one of those kits where, when you get your hands on one, you clear the bench right away and start working on it…so soon as it arrived yesterday I cleared the bench, and started prepping parts! I’m going with the ‘version A’ from the manual, which is the Highboy version on the Deuce frame, Deuce grill (just because I haven’t built an A with one of those yet), probably go with the tuck ‘n’ roll interior like the blue car on the box and use those nice injector trumpets too I’ve built three of the roadster version of this kit already, so not expecting any surprises (famous last words…) but I’m going to keep fairly close to box-stock just to see how this variant goes together…maybe a few little upgrades and modifications but nothing crazy. Got everything in primer this morning and getting set to start the paint process here; the loose inspiration is something like this… …but in a candy red with candy flames. More soon - gotta go airbrush! ?
  2. That’s a good deal - I saw that one seller who had them for that price but by the time I clicked to order he had sold out of them ?. Hoping he gets more stock!
  3. Mine came a coupla days earlier than I expected - super excited to dig into it (even though I know the building experience will be pretty similar to the 29s, of course)
  4. Been waiting a long time to get my hands on one of these! Soon as it came I cleared the bench and got going on it!
  5. Agreed - and Tim Boyd is still owed several apologies too I think for taking a bunch of abuse for making the mistake of trying to give us all a sneak peek of a cool new kit, out of the kindness of his heart. I hope the whole experience didn’t sour them both on future sneak-peaks like we got for this one! I’ll be picking up a bunch of these to build some gassers!
  6. Good tip Les - a toothpaste cap would work pretty well too! I just need to buy more toothpaste so I can try making a full set
  7. That's really smart. Could probably put decals on before the paint too so they don't fall off
  8. If you're mailing them, make sure not to wax the paint or the stamps will fall off
  9. Some really great leads here fellas, thank you!! I’ve enjoyed finding out about some of these cool parts that I didn’t know existed!
  10. Looks great to me Dave!! Thanks for sharing a sneak peek!
  11. John / Preston - I for one am excited to see your work-in-progress on this kit.
  12. Nice color! Are you intending to clear over top, or polish out the color coat?

  14. Hey Mark! I think you'd need to ensure you have enough clear coat on there that you CAN polish it out without risking 'burning through' to the foil...otherwise you'd also risk burning through the color coat to the primer / bare plastic too. As for Molotow, I haven't seen a good solution to clear coating over it where it doesn't lose at least SOME of it's 'chrome-y-ness' - so PERSONALLY I'd avoid clearing over the top of it at all if possible.
  15. Thank you for your service Bob - and to all the other members here who have served, or are serving currently!
  16. I do think we should all remain civil to a fellow model builder. That said, these threads are entertaining ?‍♂️
  17. As a model builder, I’ve just gotta say the proportions on that duckling are WAY off. With 3D scanning available nowadays there’s no excuse for them to have not just scanned a duckling and scaled it down.
  18. Yes, I gave you a link to a completely free and excellent book on exactly this subject (and much more besides) last time you posted about painting. You also retain the option of buying a copy of said book from the link I gave you previously.
  19. I mean, they're right though. There's no perfect formula for getting the perfect paint job every time with every kind of paint. You need to practice, get a feel for the paint and what works for YOU with YOUR technique, your equipment and in YOUR environment. They're not refusing to give you straight answers - you're asking questions that they won't be able to answer...
  20. I think, if that car was mine, I would've kept it how it was and built a 'Project V(olt)' or something using ANY other 57 Chevy in the world as a companion piece... ...but it's not my car ?
  21. Not having to shower when I get home is something I appreciate about asphalt racing...but I still smell like tortured clutch, rubber and exhaust fumes I've been meaning to build one of the Revell (or Monogram, originally I guess) sprint cars for EVER...I should put that on my 2022 build list.
  22. You're not kidding...and I still can't find a baconeggncheez (or a bodega that would make me one)
  23. I'd just take the F from Delancey / Essex...or if a J comes first jump on that and transfer to the N/Q. Simple ?
  24. That's actually a video - it should probably show a cool video if you click it (hopefully) I love his work too, yes! Especially the LES spots that he's done that were in my old neighborhood. Incredible work! He really mastered the 'faded brush painted lettering' look - I'd love to know more about how he achieves that
