So; Is there something to be done to protect wheels and cases? Something to keep tires from "melting" them on the shelf? Epoxy? Tape? Polyrazzmatazz? I'll be dead long before this comes into play on anything I'll build, but I don't want my grandchildren to think I'm the ignoramus I really am.

Rare 6 Wheeled Honda in Los Angeles
mcs1056 replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll have to head to Cali to get some of the #8 tires I need. -
Got the first item pictured a little bit ago. Planning to repaint to become a "Twin Pines Dairy" truck, which was the local milk & egg delivery service here when I was a kid. Teardown to begin this weekend.

WARNING! Not all 1/25 scale is equal.
mcs1056 replied to WillyBilly's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Awful lot of body shaming going on here. I thought that was "cringe." -
A tire did that??? I get that it's easy to see, but I had no idea. I'm on my first kit in fifty years, so... Do tires similarly affect plastic display cae platforms?

Have You Ever Needlessly Ordered Anything?

I just hope that, after I die, my wife doesn't sell this needless stuff for what I told her I paid for it. (Same with the guitars!) -
'65 Galaxie convertible windshield improvement
mcs1056 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I used Perfect Mold (Hobby Lobby) to make a cast of the exterior of the original windshield. I then cut a side off of a Pure Leaf iced tea bottle, and heated that with a gun to get it to start moving. As the bottle skin is pretty thin, I had my gun near the lowest heat setting, so a blow dryer might work. I heated it till it sagged a bit, then pressed it using the inner, waxed side of a milk carton to get it to fully conform until cooled off. Any wax residue can be rinsed off with Dawn & hot-ish water If you want something a bit thicker, the cylindrical section of a Coke or Pepsi bottle would work, too. -
Very nice. I'm interested in what you used for the carpeting.

Got these, among others. Seller claimed the Corvette was valuable due to 429 engine on the box art. This is why he never unwrapped it. I don't remember a 429 'Vette in that time, but I'm a Ford guy. Unless someone here tells me to NEVER!!!, it'll be a future build. As for the Chrysler; It looked cool, so I got it. As this was a Marktplace seller, I didn't know it was an older kit. Again, I'll build it, unless... $20 each, and for the two motorcycles I got from him.

Danbury Mint 1950 Divco Borden's Milk Delivery Truck
mcs1056 replied to THarrison351's topic in Diecast Corner
I just bought a Danbury Divco Borden's truck today (Ebay). I plan to strip and repaint it to make our old Detroit version, a Twin Pines Dairy truck. Once it's here, I'll measure it up and find a source for custom-made waterslide decals. I use my name as the driver, and our old phone number (TWinbrook3-0XXX) for the back. Anybody else have the old milk chute on the side of the house? Not just good for milk: As a kid, I could sneak in or out through it. Of course, that was 110 lbs ago. -
What did you see on the road today?

Saw a very good condition Aries K Car the other day. Tooling along at 75 MPH on a Detroit freeway. -

And if you get the plug in unit on credit, you're a ... never mind. -
New F1 movie. Anyone interested??
mcs1056 replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess he forgot that SWEEEET '07 Taurus I have. I'll check it out. Like many others, the Netflix series got me interested a few years ago. -
Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
mcs1056 replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a '65 Galaxie 500 XL Convertible (390, 4 bbl, factory in-dash AC), a '66 Galaxie Hardtop (no engine, ratty interior, but pristine body and frame...including torque boxes), and a 1945 Beechcraft Model 18 (technically NOT a car). LOVE that plane. I need to find a spar strap for it before I invest in those incredible radial egines (Pratt R-985s). Just keeping the racoons out of it for now, though. I am building scale models of each...both in pre-restored condition and in final product (actual or planned) condition. -
Post Your Cougar builds here 3 simple rules..
mcs1056 replied to thatz4u's topic in Community Builds
OK. Three more minutes of keyboard exercise, and I find $125 for a kit that someone started years ago, or...$65 for a printed body only. I love my brother, but he'll be getting socks for his birthday. -

What is the source for these '67 or '68 Cougar kits? I have a '69 kit to build the junk I used to own, but I'd love to build a '67 to match the one my brother owned (maybe two, so I can send one to him). I've done a diligent three-minute googlewebternet search, but have come up blank. It seems easier to just buy a real car. I guess I could try some more, but that sounds like work. Awesome kits, by the way. Mike -
Funny, as I was unsure of the correct size, so I DID ask. Further, my fun comes from getting it right. I don't know if 40 years fixing airliners made me this way, or if I chose that career because I am that way. Regardless...right is right. I'll bow out of this conversation now, as I seem to have ruffled some feathers. I do appreciate the many great questions, posts, and responses on this site.

Rechargable air compressors?
mcs1056 replied to Valvefloat's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have a NEOECO airbrush kit ($35.00?) (see BarbatosRex on YouTube) and a Harbor Freight 2 gal "Fortress" compressor ($150.00). This combo has been great. HF also has a 1 gal version for about $20 less. Both units are REALLY quiet, and the tank is a huge benefit to have. The airbrush comes with different sized needles, so I can spray everything I need so far. I did spray Mr Hobby 1000 with good results, using the 0.5 needle. Add a water separator off of the tank or at the bench, and all is good. I've never had a "high quality" airbrush, so i'm sure others can speak to those. -
Thanks. Good add to the conversation.

Thanks to the vast majority of you, who gave helpful replies. I'll be much closer to being the modeler (who) is happy with their model, (as) that's all that counts.

A simple, "I use x.xxmm for heater hose" would have sufficed. But no; you have to denigrate to try showing that you're the smartest guy on the web. You come across as the guy who thinks loud is smart. People who know little are often too ignorant to know that they're ignorant.

Gotcha. I'll just run out and take measurements off of some stranger's classic Mustang. Oh. Wait. I'm housebound. Thanks for the math lesson, though. Big help.

With the exception of a future Saturn V rocket kit, everything I have is 1:24 or 1:25, and all cars or pickups. Since I haven’t built a model in 50 years, my current build will be as received in the box (painted, of course). My question regards proper scale for detail parts for future kits. I like watching videos where builders add plug wires, bolt heads, and other custom details, and I want to do some of that myself. However, some folks put stuff on that’s way too big. It makes the finished product look amateurish. Plug wires and hoses come to mind. So…I look at online catalogs, but don’t know if a 0.9mm hose joint is more to scale than a 1.5mm joint. As I’m housebound for a little bit longer, I can’t get to a hobby store to look, so I’m asking here. What size stuff should I use? Mike

Reading of decanting and , I just this morning. Did you know that spray can decanted fluids still hold some of the gas? So I, being a smart feller, let it gas for about a half hour, until it stopped bubbling. This was a couple of days ago. With the contents in a Pre-Val jar, I put it on the shelf after I sprayed what I wanted. GREAT! This morning, I grabbed that jar and gave it a good shake to mix. Upon opening the jar, I learned that the stuff had further gassed, and became a spray bottle again when I spun off the top. Hands now white. Workbench now white. To be blue model body now white. Tops of shoes...guess what. Though none of the decanting videos I had seen referenced this phenomena, it seems like one should have let the stuff gas until it fully hardens in the jar. Learn from me, folks. My life is full of lessons. (We can talk about removing the bellcrank from a LearJet fuel control some day)
