  3. Crisp, sanitary modeling which guarantees an impressively convincing realism, especially with some of that fine photography. I like the bike the best, but they always get me with their eye-candy detail. Happy New Year.

  6. Superbly executed all. Finding backgrounds that are complementary and don't conflict with the subject is a tough nut to crack. That's why mostly plain backgrounds tend to be the way to go. But it's another creative challenge so what-the-heck... Anyway, thanks for sharing some fine work and Happy New Year!

  15. This is my bunch for 2014. Only half a dozen this. I seem to be working harder and getting less done. Is this progress? Perhaps; at least I feel I’m getting closer to the level I’d like to be modeling at. I left at least 4 other projects on the bench, of which 2 I hope to have completed by the end of January in time for the NNL West. In the meantime, thanks to all who followed along on my WIPS and all my very best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. B.   16. Wow! Thanx for all the interest and the very, very generous comments. This build cashed in on an awful lot of Revell Deuces I've built before it - sort of a "Greatest Hits" of tricks and techniques I've learned. But there were still some new things to try (the radically Gold Kandy paint and the precise rear window chop job for example) so, as with all my models so far, these projects continue to be a "learning experience". As a result I took a bit longer than I thought it would and crowded out finishing a '49 Ford coupe I have going. Oh well, I guess that one's for early 2015... Chopped and Channeled 3-Window Deuce Coupe Built for the annual contest on the Modeler’s Haven forum, this year’s competition required you to build a car based on elements from the classic Revell ’32 Ford series of models. The basis for my entry was the Deuce 3-window coupe. I tried to include as much from the basic kit, or from other Revell Deuce kit, as I could and still present a relatively ambitious build that would showcase my conception of an early 60’s show car, the proverbial chopped and channeled “Little Deuce Coupe”. Other than the basic parts from the donor kit here are the modifications and additions I made: Bodywork: Top chopped 4 ½ scale inches with rear window chopped 2 ½ scale inches. Body channeled approx.. 4 scale inches over frame. Model Car Garage resin 4 inch chopped grill shell with horizontal photo-etch grill. Chassis Modifications: Rear end z’d 4 scale inches. Front end lowered an additional approximately 2 ½ scale inches by removing 3 spring leaves and notching the front crossmember. Custom exhaust system based on kit parts. Interior: Kit interior sectioned 4 scale inches and modified with custom diamond-tuft inserts, bucket seats from the Revell Stacey David “Rat Roaster” ’32 Ford roadster kit and dashboard from an AMT Phantom Vicky. Motor and Transmission: Revell Parts Pack Chevy 283 small block V8 and automatic transmission. 6 carb manifold and Stromberg 97 carburetors from a Revell ’57 Chevrolet Nomad kit. Custom chromed air scoops fabricated from AMT ’53 Ford Pickup custom taillights. Lakes-style headers from a Revell Tweedy Pie kit. Wheels and Tires: Modelhaus “Rader” chrome wheels, zero-offset fronts and standard offset rears. Original NOS Modelhaus Firestone-branded TS-110 whitewall front tires and rear whitewall slicks. Paint and Finishes: Basic body and chassis color is Tamiya TS-73 Clear Orange over Testors Pure Gold lacquer and Duplicolor white primer with 3 coats of Tamiya Clear sealer. Accent color is Duplicolor Wimbledon white. Gold tones in the interior are from Duplicolor Naples Gold. Thanx for lookin’, B.
  19. Here are the Parts by Parks stacks siamesed. There's plenty of metal to work with so manner and the degree to which you pair them is easily controlled.
  20. Thanx everyone! As always, your interest is very much appreciated. This will be the final update. I just have minor details like the radiator hoses, front crossbar, door handles and general cleanup to do and then I can take the final “beauty shots”. Lots of fabrication and fettling needed to be done, things like cutting a new drive shaft, modifying the kit exhaust system, notching the bottom of the grill shell to get the right height and spacing, etc. Looks like I’ll get it done in time for the December 31st deadline. The motor is completed. The Revell Parts Pack Stromberg 97s I used lack heft and height so I added a couple of chromed scoops which are actually the custom taillight bezels from the AMT ’53 Ford Pickup kit, with the front end opened up. The headers also have connecting pipes added to them to hook up to the kit mufflers installed in the undercarriage (I’ll include a chassis shot with the final presentation pictures). The grill is a Model Car Garage 4-inch chopped Deuce piece with the horizontal bars. The stock headlights were adapted from the Revell ’32 Ford 3-window kit to mount low on the shock mounts in keeping with overall stance of the car. At the rear the standard Revell Deuce kit ’48 Ford taillights have been thinned down so they don’t protrude so much. In addition I omitted the kit clear red lenses, instead painting the recessed surface with transparent red. The overall effect is finer and more realistically in scale to my eye. The license plate frame is from a Model Car Garage Revell Deuce 3-window p/e set. Thanx for lookin’ and following along, B.

  24. Beautiful recreation Ron! It's remarkable that someone like RepMin has never made a transkit for the later reissues. Or that Modelahus doesn't at least offer the steelies and tires...

The whole original vibe of the Little T, with it's classic clean and balanced style, even remarkable at the time of its original creation, was lost long ago with its transformation into a "Fad T" with the wire front wheels, and then later the trailer and wide section rear tires. With the renewed interest in classic rodding it's time for a revival of the original release. It would sell well, IMHO, and become an important parts kit too. Some of the pieces, like the six carb manifold, have survived in other kits, but mostly I suspect would need to be retooled. There aren't that many pieces to do, however... Certainly not even close to what Revell did with the Slingster.
