I feel the same way about baseball and other sports. Much more fun to me actually playing baseball or football than watching it. And I don't subscribe to the aformentioned description of drag racing. I love all the drama leading up to the actual race as much as the race itself.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Dave...if you've never been near a Top Fuel dragster or even a Funnycar as it launches you are missing out on one hell of an experience. I will guarantee you that you will not be able to let these cars launch without putting your hands over your ears or wear some kind of hearing protection. It actually hurts really badly! And another thing that is cool is to be at the finish line when these rocketships come through the lights at over 300 mph with the engine and blower screaming to high heaven! It's a rush that words just cannot describe adequately. And then there's the ballet between rounds in the pits. I love to be in the pits and watch the teams completely rebuild the engine and clutch and have a brand new 8000 horse engine ready to go in 90 minutes! It's incredible how fast and well coordinated these teams are! Everyone has their job and knows it well. The teamwork is incredible. Just make sure you back yourself out of there when they fire it up on nitro...the fumes are wicked! Please do yourself a favor and go to a Nationals at some point in your automotive life and watch these cars from all 3 vantage points I've described. One catch though if you do...you may get hooked on nitro! LOL

Last year I had my friend's 2004 Z-06 in my garage. He had blown 2nd gear so we removed the trans to take it to a tranny shop for repairs. Saved him 1800 bucks by doing this labor ourselves. So it's quite a project. The rear end, transmission and driveshaft tube all come down as one unit! Not tough...just rather involved. So while we had it there we installed a new clutch. Then an entirely new stainless steel Borla exhaust system with small hi-flow cats and equal length long tube headers. Then we installed a 150 hp wet nitrous system! Then we painted the car black and put red pearl in the clearcoat! Hand block sanded the whole car till it was glass smooth! This car literally sparkles in the sunshine and MAN!...what a rocketship! Wish I had some photos before the vandalism. One night the car was parked outside my house and some sumbitch came during the night and spraypainted Nazi words all over the driver's side! Police never able to find out who dunnit! Anyway...I digress. Here's a photo of the unit out of the car while it's all together....Hope this helps you. Hosted on Fotki -

No George...sorry Bud but it's not. I have the Orange Crate and it isn't even close. And I don't know what it IS from either but lok at the frame and the high arch of the rear spring. Gotta be some kind of Model T???

Looks great. But here too the rear slicks are depicted with one way wrinkling...like the car is under a hard launch. If that's the way you want it depicted then cool. However, in that case then your right rear tire is backwards. Other than that a really nice build! -

Looks great..except for rear tires...at rest the wrinkle should extend to both sides of the tire. But if depicting the car under acceleration...well the wrinkles are backwards...like they're under acceleration in reverse. -
Looks good. Only issue I have is with the fuel line. It goes from the fuel tank directly to the top of the blower. I assume to the distribution block. But that line should at least be coming from the fuel pump???

Beautiful! But what is that intake? Never seen one like that... what is it? Looks like maybe fuel injected but where are the throttle bodies?...inside that plenum? Looks intriguing.

sanding sticks

I make my own. I just use thin styrofoam packaging material like disposable trays at the hospital. You can also use the trays meat comes packed in but you have to sterilize it first. Then I just put down carpet tape on the styrofoam and stick on a piece of the black wet-or-dry sandpaper of whatever grit you choose. Cut them up into whatever sizes you want and you have a cheap large supply of sanding sticks! -

Decal's I am really starting to hate them!!

Here's a great tip... Get some Future floor polish. If you don't know what Future is, it is not a wax, it's actually a clear acrylic liquid that airplane modelers are using as an entire clear coat now for decal application...among a dozen other things. In the spot you want to lay the decal down just dab on a spot of Future with a paint bruch. Put your decal right in the puddle of Future. When it dries, it will suck that decal right down! And don't worry about the puddle...it's self-leveling. Another thing I use Future for is attaching window "glass". It won't fog the plastic like superglue and is invisible when dry. However this will only work when you already have a nice precise fit as it's not a "filler" type of glue. But that said, if you need to use superglue and don't want to run the risk of fogging the plastic, dip the glass in Future first. Let it dry. Then you can use Superglue and the plastic won't fog. I think all plastic "glass" should be dipped in Future anyway...it makes the plastic "glass" super clear! -

I have a number of things I do "off-duty".... Working in my shop we call "Manland". 2 years ago I built a 24 X 48 two story garage shop. At any particular time in the garage level, I always have one or two projects going on. Right now I have a 70 VW convertible my son and I are restoring, a utility body we are fixing up for my local fire department's 77 Dodge pickup rescue vehicle, a 1986 Honda CR250 I'm restoring for myself (the orange-red one)and my son's 1993 Honda CR250 that we just finished restoring. Soon his 97 Harley Davidson softail Custom will be stripped down to the bare frame so we can paint the entire frame to match the tins' custom HOK paint we gave it over last winter. The second floor of manland is my woodworking shop. It's pretty much equipped now that I can build just about anything. Here's part of the woodworking shop....Sorry about the mess, but I'm almost done building an outdoor message center for the cemetary of my church. father has a large map of who is buried where and he wanted a weather proof message center he could post it in for visitors to see. But the store bought ones were $700- $800 and up. I'm building this one mostly out of scraps I had lying around. The white box on the table saw is the mesage board itself while the thing on the workbench is the roof. I hear ya! I just can't seem to build ANYTHING straight out of the box with a few exceptions..And they were: A few aircraft that I was building for the specific purpose of entering them in an OOB class and 2 car models that I built specifically for review articles in Internet Modeler! Otherwise I always seem to just HAVE to improve upon something in the model! LOL -
They are 12 spoke also...

I don't have that kit and I don't think I've ever actually seen one. So I have a question for you... Is that the way the firewall is made in the engine compartment? I mean... is there no part for the rear of the engine compartment which would actually be the firewall or is that the way the firewall is represented n the kit?

Well I chopped the top a couple of years ago...like I said, this was a stalled project. And I can't say that I remember any problems out of the ordinary as in any other top chop. The only thing I remember was attaching the top to the lower part of the body first. And I'd love to see yours...but where do I go to see it?
