Ricky, the kit engine is sort of a weird mishmash of stuff. The block, heads, valve covers, and headers are small block Chevy-ish. the timing cover and water pump are Ford-ish. Add to that, the distributor goes in either the back or front, depending on which hood you want to use. What's strange is that Burt Myers ran Ford engines prior to 2020, and after 2020 most all teams are running the LS based spec engine.....neither of which the kit engine is accurate. On the ones I'm building, I'm just going to use the kit engine and leave the hood on lol.

When it comes to Pontiac Blue, there's no definitive answer, Pontiac used several shades of blue over the years. Generally speaking, however, Duplicolor DE 1616 is good for '66 through '70 engines, that's what I used on my '67. Duplicolor DE 1610 is a good match for earlier engines, '59-'65.

I have both kits. The Salvinos kit is cheaper (well, it WAS….not so much anymore) but it does have some accuracy issues, one being the Burt Myers kit has a generic Chevy engine…..the real car is a Ford. The Hurd Hobbies kit is pricey and challenging to assemble, but far more accurate……plus if a part is missing or broken you can easily get replacements.

I didn't own it, it was owned by a doctor that hired my cousin and I to build it and take it to ISCA car shows....the old "World Of Wheels" series. The doctor had deep pockets, and my cousin and I had a ton of fun, lol. As to what happened to it, that's a good question. I'm going to ask around and see if I can find out.

I'll definitely be getting at least one or two. Regarding the El Camino conversion, my cousin and I built a REAL '55 El Camino back in the 80s....I say "built", but the conversion was already done when we got it, we just took it apart and rebuilt it from the frame up for ISCA competition. We never really figured this car out....it most certainly had Nomad doors and tailgate, but regular sedan quarter panels. We sort of had the feeling that the pickup conversion might have been a fiberglass kit that was offered at some point by some aftermarket company, as the entire bed area was fiberglass. Anyway, guess what I'll attempt to build with this kit?

Not so much a grill as bumpers.....front and rear bumpers for the '57 Chevy kits WITH bumper guards, which have never been offered in a kit.....

My son and I had the chance to meet Jason when the modifieds ran at Anderson SC a few years ago, and he was one of the most friendly and down to earth drivers I've ever met. I became a big fan that day. I try to go to the Madhouse at least once a year, as my schedule allows.

I'm always at a bit of a loss when it comes to posting short track cars. I never know exactly what category to put them. I guess it could go in the "other racing" department, but since these cars are actually sanctioned by Nascar, I decided to put it here. If it's wrong, you can sue me but get in line. This is a kit offered by Hurd Hobbies in NC. It is 100% 3D printed. Even the tires and clear parts are printed. Yes, it's a bit challenging, and yes, it's expensive, but I love the Modified series and I HAD to have it. Yes, I know about the kits coming from Salvinos....I have several pre-ordered, but #1, I've heard they're more of a generic, "one size fits all" type kit, so I'm looking forward to comparing the two. These kits must be assembled exactly according to directions, and everything must be lined up right or the parts in the next step won't fit. It is definitely not a kit for beginners, but on the other hand, if I can do it, ANYBODY can. I also quickly learned that thin 3D parts aren't as forgiving as plastic.....I broke the hood twice, then dropped a nerf bar and accidentally stepped on it, crushing it into a million pieces. I also lost a wheel hub, but luckily Hurd Hobbies offers individual parts as well as full kits, and shipping is fast...ordered on Monday, received on Thursday. I made mistakes on this one, but next time I'll be more familiar with it. This is 100% Out Of The Box. I added no extra detail at all. The kit is designed so the wheels can be removed....just be careful not to break the tiny lug studs. The decals are the only thing extra, they are for Jason Myers' 2019 "Friends Of Jaclyn" car that ran at Bowman Gray Stadium. If you like tour type modifieds, and can afford it, go ahead and try one out. Like I said, the only real problems I had were self-inflicted. Thanks for looking.

It does have a few challenges but can build up quite well. Make sure to test fit everything, and be prepared to make a few adjustments.

The one from the AMT '69 Hurst Olds is very close to that.....close enough for me, anyway.
