  1. Thats what I do a lot of the time. It has paid off well, Ive gotten some vintage 1/24 slot car stuff for free this year.
  2. I lived just outside Oakland, CA thru most of the 60's. I was only a few minutes from Melrose Motors. I'd often see this parked in the front of their lot. Pretty cool.
  3. I'm with ya on this. I stopped building in the late 80's, and had more than a few rods in pink, turquoise, pale yellow, and pastel blue. Simulated billet, monochrome and shaved everything. Fortunately most of them never got finished so I can do them over easily. When I resumed building in 2007, that was still my style. I spent a lot of time gathering stupid-large wheels and tires, and buying stuff like the Vette Agin, Wagonrod, and Phantom Sickie ( oops, I mean Phantom Vickie ) . Now Im back to the old school traditional rods and customs, their style lasts over time, and I find them much more pleasing. I like ratrods too, the ingenuity shown sometimes is quite inspiring. What I DONT like is that some guys mistake the term "ratrod" for lousy build quality.
  4. Ive used valspar primer, and love it.
  5. Love those taillights!
  6. Rocketfin Hobbies has a lot of useful links to the aftermarket. http://www.rocketfin.com/model_car_links.html
  7. Outstanding Luis. You captured the crazy look of this style of cars perfectly. I love it!
  8. Absolutely stunning workmanship Charlie!
  9. Surf crate ( mine is purple ) would be great.I love the Mantaray. With all the goofy kits out there, its surprising this was never done in styrene.
  10. I have used their ultra restore plastic polish, it works very well!
  11. What they said! Finish it off!
  12. The consistency should be like milk. Thin with lacquer thinner until it looks like that, and spray away!

Nice, very tradiditional, I dig it. The maroon, and those wheels and tires look especially good on this one!
  14. Youve got a pretty good eye for getting the bodies right!

  16. Hey John, Im in the bay area. Are you talking of goodguys Pleasanton, or is there one way down south?
  17. Beautiful!! Love the color combination. Im working on one too, but as a drag car. If you havent finalized the ride height, Bernard Kron posted a great tut on lowering the front end. Find it here: http://trakinscale.p...ay&thread=14404
  18. Welcome John. I like nostaliga too. Whereabouts in CA are ya?
  19. Um, is it in Knoxville Tennesee, or Knoxville Iowa? The back 'O my neck is pretty red, but it not THAT red. And hey, I loved my El Camino with the gun rack and 50 series Mickey Thompsons!
  20. Nice! Much better than the original, love your weathering too.
  21. Wow, that thing sure is cool! I love those huge flares.
