  1. Yeah Josh, Antioch Speedway is a great place to watch sprints!
  2. There's a line of kits made by Arii called "american violence" I've seen the text on the box top and its got some sort of reference to evacuatiing ones bowells. I'd love to know what they were really thinking. Went to engrish, what a hoot. Found this one, a similar subject matter. The girl actually looks happy to be wearing this. Whats the fascination with the bowels?
  3. I just thought of another one. I buy a kit, start to build it, find some aspect disappointing, consider the first kit "practice", buy the kit again, start to build it, consider it practice version two , buy the kit again..........
  4. Interesting question! I'm 58, and for me it was about 15 years ago. The cute little girl at McDonalds called me "sir" Ooooooo
  5. I just cked my instructions and there is no master cylinder.
  6. Build the chassis, the engine, wheels and tires, primer the body, then epic fail. Wash, rinse, repeat. Ugggghh.
  7. I must say box art got me into the JDM/Shakotan/Bosozuko/GranChan thing. Yea, I'm 58, but I can appreciate drastically lowered cars.
  8. The Orange one has the yucky modern 10 hole rims. Earlier versions have the 4 hole americans. Other than that, they are all the same.
  9. I got the super expensive Revell Parts Pack bubble tops, and the rare custom wheels for the 32 Ford from AMT's Willy's/32 Ford Sedan kit. $21 total shipped. Ive seen the bubbles go for over $30. Pics to follow. I am a happy man!
  10. Tim Boyd suggested I post this. I followed his method of chopping a 49 Merc way back when in Street Rodder mag. This might be 35 years ago. Its been seen here before, but I'd like Tim to see his handiwork as I presented it. The profile of the chop as he instructed, is gorgeous. His Merc had B-pillars, but I chose to make it a hardtop. All the work you see is done with a razor saw, tube glue, and Testors putty. Yes Virginia, testors putty does eventually stop shrinking and dry. If you look close you will see the A-pillar is cracked. I dropped the darn thing while taking pics. NO big deal, with today's technology its an easy fix!
  11. That would be a hoot, eh? The fascinating thing is I started it way back when, following your article and using tube glue and testor's putty. It suffered a fall and the front a post is cracked. I'll start a "Tim Boyd" thread!
  12. NOw THAT'S nice. I really love this, one of my favorite vintage drag cars. Great work!
  13. Now that is one of your best, Tim! As an aside, Ive been working on a 49 Merc I chopped back in the 80's following your instructions in Street Rodder.
  14. Gosh darn thats some clean work! I dig the combo!
  15. That engine is fantastic!
  16. No ....cant say that word.......very very nice, I really dig the color annd the whole build!
  17. Up to a few hundred bucks. Check ebay. Some of the guys here are more familiar with this kit and might give better info. I see this is your first post. hang around with us for awhile!
  18. Well said B. I've got a few Buttera kits, and the Aluma Coupe and Smoothster. I'm saving them because I expect in a decade or two they will come back around. What is old, is new again. Although I'm a traditional guy like you, and build nothing else right now, I've already felt some nostalgia to build a billet-rod.
  19. Its all about the fun. I had a built VW in the 70's, it was a heck of a lot of fun, especially against the multitude of late 60's 283 powerglide Camaros. Maybe pushing only 80 hp on dual Webber carbs. Never got 'em on the top end, but played havoc at the line. Thats real fun! Fast forward a decade, and I had a 5.0 T-top Stang. The only thing fun about it was the donuts. The worst car I've ever owned. Fun and cool isnt all about horespower!
  20. Thats pretty neat
  21. I try do the retro review of that 55 Chevy this weekend.
  22. Not into Pocher, not much on Lamborghini, not much on the large scale, on a social security budget, but dang, this is one I might just blow a whole years modeling on!
  23. I got my first sheet from the LHS. Wrinkles. After that I buy direct, not had any problems yet! When I used the first "direct buy" sheet, it was like "holy carp, I can foil!"
  24. I was friends with a fellow that entered the GNRS in the 70's. Having the tire lettering and valvestems at the same place on all 4 wheels got points. He even turned down washers so that all, I mean all, of the bolt heads lined up. Thats how persnickety things get at this level. Its rare that I dont have a criticism, but all I have to say on this beautiful piece is that the rear wheels should be an inch or so wider, so that the sidewall profile matches that of the front. Color, sweet, looks a lot like Tamiya Maroon!
  25. I got one of mine last week.
