I REALLY like the red and silver combo on the Daytona! What paint did you use for the silver?
-
I just picked this kit up today and when I cracked it open I thought that I would use the supplied small block. I also won a resin manifold and carb set at the MAMA club meeting raffle and thought that it would come in handy somewhere along the line on another build. After seeing this post I have decided to use the HEMI. Your valve cover treatment sold me!

Thanks Bill. I am currently in work full force on this subject and it is coming along well (imagine that notion!). I have studied as many pictures of these cars as I can find to get my build as accurate as I can, but never noticed any inaccuracies with the A and C roof pillars. I'll look closer, but it's already in paint and there's no turning back on the bodywork. Still, I want an accurate 1966 kit to build. Family does come first! Have fun!!!

I sure hope I'll be able to see this one at the meeting tomorrow. Yes I'll be there, unless I die in my sleep tonight!

What, exactly, is wrong with the roof Bill? And will you by chance be at the MAMAs Boyz meeting tomorrow? It would cool to meet you!

I want this job
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool vid! Lyrics didn't bother me in the least, I like that tune. I work on the Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Test Center and see a U-2 on occasion. I have had strong urges to just take my Z/28 onto runway alpha and run it to the limit. It's not worth losing my job over, though. -
OLDMAN ENGINEER PROJECT 57 CHEVY
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to baddgass's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I am very impressed with your skillful work, man. I've built both the Z/28 and the Corvette from this series, but niether have this much detail or scratchbuilding. Two more questions... Where do you get the tiny machined hardware (please don't tell me you make it yourself!), and what sizes do you use? Thanks J.B. -

Ismaelg, thanks alot I just properly disposed of a small part of my paycheck on that link! -
Tim, You have a serious PM on this topic. Please check. Thanks... J.B.

You guys may have stumbled onto a potenially huge market. Many of us here have been building since the sixties and have reached ages and income levels that allow us to spend so much more money for the hobbies we love so much. Need an investor?!

This is a stunning build! I have this kit and your example has elevated it into the "next to start after I finish the one on the bench" spot. I plan to use the RoG kit I also have for some donor parts along with the beautiful Hobby Design photoetch set. I have some questions for you about your experience with your build, if you don't mind... First, From looking at your pictures it looks to me that the driver side rear wheel assembly is located off-center (to the forward) in the wheel well. Also, in the pictures of the car that have the hood closed it looks like the hood won't properly seat. Is this so, or just an end result of hurried photography? Please don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful build. I'm just asking so I can anticipate some of the quirks that I may encounter with my upcoming build.

An Instant Grail For Me
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to John E. Bowers Jr.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi Steve. I found it online at an eBay store, If you do that sort of thing. I got it at almost half of the msrp, at about $129 USD shipping included. -
Over twenty years ago I was the proud owner of a nearly new 1980 Yamaha XS 750 Special. This motorcycle provided me with alot of great times then, and memories now. When I saw this kit in a coming release column of a magazine, I knew that I had to have one (or maybe two). I know that it's not exactly like my old 1:1 one, but it's the closest example I've ever seen after all these years, and this copy is mine. Looks like a fantastic buildup that I will undertake this winter season when I am able to spend more time at the bench... I'm really looking forward to be seeing this one through, but it will have to wait for now.

It's time to take a break when ....

WOW! I guess I'm not alone! It happens about every other time that I work on a car. -
FALL IN!!!!!
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to justin2020's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aircraft Mechanic (Structures) First Class Petty Officer John E. Bowers, Jr. reporting as ordered sir! I have been building model cars since I was a young'un. Joined the Navy in 1988 and was given a medical discarge in 2001 when the flight surgeon decided that I was all used up. I got back into the hobby when we were stationed in Spain and after wandering into a little shop I stumbled onto a Revell of Germany 1/6 scale Harley Fat Boy kit. Built it very carefully and after we got back to the U.S. I entered it into the Y-City contest in Ohio and won second in class. I have been building ever since. -
Great pics Len. Thanks. I really wish I had been able to attend. Not not to compete, (because I wouldn't measure up).
-
I know exactly where you are coming from, man. We moved into our new house in January and I had to totally remove myself from all hobby's to get the home front straight. I'm slowly getting back into the leasurley things now, though. My best wishes to ya! J.B.

Thank you guys for the very kind words about this build! As I have stated, this is one that I have done to rebound me back to where I was before I was recently distracted by a few of the life issues that tend to creep up from time to time. Things are leveling out now so I have a little more ability to concentrate on the hobby for a couple of hours a week.

I have both the Revell of Germany and Fujimi kits waiting in the wings. Are these the kit supplied wheels used on the car that you have pictured?

Oh, man, I'm a big fan of red!!!

This is a truly beautiful build, Lyle. The first MAMA meeting I attended was the one just after he lost his life, and I was genuinely touched by the stories told, the whole affection felt, the sense of loss, and seeing the collection of the model cars that he had built and distributed to his fellow modellers and friends. I feel a great sense of pride having won an award associated with this great man.

doesn't look like you forgot how to paint! nice trees Thanks Man. Actually, this one has had three paint jobs. The first was a dark burgundy metallic that didn't work. Stripped and done with a Stoplight Red metallic. Botched again, so I went with Boyds Sunburst Orange after I changed the needle in my airbrush. This one worked so I followed with Boyds High gloss clear and polished. I'm finding out that this is a "use it or lose it" skill!
