"Holy Grail" Models?
Ben replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
By "Holy Grail" do you mean kits that we already own or kits that we have yet to obtain? For me, on kits that I already own, it would be a toss up between my two Renwal visible chassis kits or my Monogram 1/12 Mean Maverick funny car kits. As far as kits I have yet to obtain, it would be the Aurora Racing Scenes VooDoo Vega complete funny car kit and the Pinto complete funny car kit. I have the rest of the entire series, just need those two! -
3D surface decals, rivets, louvers, weld beads, etc.
Ben replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If anyone would like to see them, as they were being used, you can see them on my Peterbilt 352 cab as I was making the master. I stretched the cab using a second cab and in order to do my body work correctly, I had to sand away a lot of rivet detail. After my body work was finished, I used the rivet decals to put the rivets back in place and to add additional rivets that were needed to replicate the real cab. You can see the pics here: http://www.public.fotki.com/lotso/some-cab-masters/page2.html -
I wanted to make sure that everyone knows about these. If you make masters for casting or just want to add detail to a project, Archer transfers might just have what your looking for. They produce actual three dimensional decals that you apply like a regular decal and when they are painted over, they leave a raised detail. What's really cool is that everything is perfectly spaced so you just cut out the amount you need, dip them in water and then carefully drag them into place. The decal film is super thin and disappears after a light coat of paint. So far I have used the rivets on some truck cab masters I have made and they worked beautifully!. They also withstood having the silicone poured over them when the mold was made and when the cabs were demolded, none of the rivets pulled off the cab. Really cool stuff! The hot rod guys should really like the louvers! http://www.archertra...etailsMain.html#

Oh bummer!!!!! I was hoping it was right on in scale so it could be stripped and cast into resin. A modern pickup and Avalanche could have been made from the resin castings. -

how did you get hooked ..my 1st kit 1963
Ben replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember being in Elementary school and in one class, not sure what the class was, they let me build models. I remember them being all black with plastic tires and I think there was a 1940 Ford. I had a blast building them and always looked forward to going to that class! Later on, at that same school one of the male teachers brought in a big garbage bag full of model kits and we all got to close our eyes, reach in and pick one. I don't remember what I ended up with but the kid right after me pulled out an ERTL Great Dane extendable flat bed trailer!!!!!!! Man, I was crushed!!!!!!! I wanted that trailer soooooo bad!!!! I remember telling him that he wouldn't like it because it didn't include the tractor, like it showed on the box! LOL Ahhhhhhhhh the good ol' days! Now I have so many kits, they're in almost every room of my home! LOL -
Thanks Gordon, I really like yours too! Mine has a little ways to go before I'm happy with it.

Ok, I found it, it's a Welly, 1/24 diecast and comes in stock and police versions. Pretty cheap too! I found one for 10.00!
