When it rains it pours
Hondo replied to 59 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dan, I totally understand and can sympathize with you. I have many of the same issues and problems. It sure is a pleasure knowing you've given so much effort to a company, only being thrown out like part of the trash. Been there a couple times. I know, it's a business and there's no guarantees of having a job, but it's not pleasing nor tastes well. I've been out of work looking for another job for about 7 months now. The small part time job (and I'm very thankful of that) doesn't pay many bills. I'm really tired of the media telling us every minute what is so bad and never anything that might be positive. I don't like this situation we're in and it hurts giving up things we've worked hard for just to get by. Our decision makers have really screwed this country up. I know we're still better off than many people in the world. Many people who are always so positive, are like us... one job and one decision away from being just like you and I. I feel your pain, as they say, and I only can hope you get a break and it gets better you. OK, putting up my soapbox, now. Hondo -
Although, I'm not much into the big 4 X 4 stuff, this is really a nice build, Jeryd. Years ago a friend bought a brand new '77 Ford XCab and fixed it up like this. It's still a very nice looking body style. I really like what you did to this one. Cool !! Hondo

They all look nice Jeryd. Good job on them all. Hondo

Sorry to hear of your bad news, Jody. I was out of work for 6 months. Finally got a small part time gig only about 10 hours a week, but thankful even though I have no insurance. Stay positive, send resumes and knock on doors. You never know what will happen. Good luck ! I understand how the model cars become a non-issue.......... It's tough right now and for those who have jobs, say your prayers every day ! Hondo

As for the lettering in Spanish......... I think it's like when you call the Sears service department and get the "Press 1 for English" message. The Coast Guard is PC, I guess. I thought the lettering was always like that, not just the Mexico City race. Awesome build, Mick. Hondo

Cool pictures, Gary. My Dad was good friends of Johnny Miller (#3) Used to listen to WIST all the time on the radio, sponsor on Dub Simpson's #22. Great old times in the Carolinas........Thanks for posting them. Old Speedy........quite a racer on dirt, too. Hondo

Jerry, you bring back the memories with this stuff. Too bad, a lot of folks never got to enjoy "real racing" back in the day at "The Darlington Raceway". (Not that flipped over one) Great looking track. I've used 400 grit sandpaper for floors and street surfaces. Works pretty good with some flat black and gray mixed over it. I know what you mean about all life's distractions...... Not enough time in the day to be a kid anymore. Hondo
-
Simply outstanding job, Charlie Very, very nice. I like it a lot. Hondo
-
Come on, Man........... You can't fool me. That ain't Darlington......... That place had a lid on it !! (Best headache you could get was sitting there all afternoon on Labor day) Just kiddin' Luke. Nice work on it. What did you use for the track surface ? I like the T-Bird, too ! Hondo

Great job on it, Mick. Was this Shawna's last ride ? Looks awesome ! Hondo

Ralphs car number was 8 while on the National Circuit, 8jr was while he was running the local short tracks. Same for Dale 8 on the national circuit, K-2 on the locals. (this was due to NASCAR not sanctioning car letters only numbers. Trivia question 1: how did Dale come to have car #3 Trivia question 2: how many car numbers did Dale have total Trivia question 3: how many car numbers has Jr had so far
-
Kinda confused as to who's car you are talking about. There was: Ralph Earnhardt (not SR) Dale Earnhardt (not SR, the media did that) Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (yes, he is a Junior) Not trying to be a wise guy, but that's their names. Ralph's car number was 8 JR. Dale started out in that K-2, then used 8 if he owned the car. The white/cream colored 8 JR car of Ralph's was a '55 Chevrolet. Hondo

'85 Dodge L-700 Service Truck
Hondo replied to Southgate's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Dan, That's too cool. Very nice "engineering" and concept. Great job, I like it. Hondo -
Pretty much goes to show that racing is a business now and no longer a sport. In a related issue too......... Toyota has delayed opening the new car plant they are building near Tupelo, Mississippi for a couple years due to the economy. The hits just keep on coming. Hondo

Great looking Grump car, Sven. Nice paint job. Saw that one race "back in the day"........... Hondo

Looking good, TXRat. Nice work. Where did those frame rails come from? Hondo

Reposting this as the photos were "red Xed"........... Hondo

Hey Wayne, Thanks for the offer to scan the M/T article. I think I have that also in my "stuff". Good to hear from you. I haven't done much modeling lately. HRaSauras, glad to help. Yep, I think the Cudas, Vegas & Mustangs also were my favorites. Hondo

John, The red M/T Pinto body ran for over a year and ended it's life as you see in Raisin's reply where it was destroyed in NY in the summer of 1972. The blue body "Revellazer" lasted a very short time and was replaced by the yellow "Revelleader" Grand AM body at the start of 1973. Here's a few pictures: The 2nd Pinto that replaced an earlier blue and gold (yellow)body 1972. The Revellaser body. The Pontiac Grand Am body in 1973. As far as succes goes.......Dale Pulde, who drove these cars is one of the best funny car drivers, ever..........They did very well during this time. Slixx has the decals for the Revellaser Pinto. http://www.slixx.com/1592.htm?id=2764 Hope this helps, Hondo

Ford C900 frame queston
Hondo replied to Aaronw's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Aaron, The C600 Ford stake bed truck I have, has 2 frames included. I think it was for the truck with the bed or a short tractor. I think you can build either with this kit. It's the kit that's a white cab and stake bed on the box. I guess, the re-issued one. AMT/Ertyl, no item # on the box. Hope it helps, Hondo -
The real old Revell kits are harder to find, although eBay will have them occasionally. The kit I used was a ChiTown Hustler Dodge Charger. (The chassis are mostly the same unless the body was different.........Vega, Mustang, Charger, etc.) There was a Wildman kit, harder to find it. Slixx has the decals for it. Thanks for the comments, Hondo
