  1. And Leon, glad to see you are stilling turning out those great colors! See you at Toledo?
  2. Guys, Jairus and I talked about moving this thread to Rants and Raves, but then, that would go against what this forum is all about. It is the forum for the builders, collectors, and scale auto enthusiasts in our hobby. We are for the most part one big happy family. How many other places in our lives can you make such great friends, to the point that they will open up their homes to you, offer you advice, voice their opinions, and sometimes help steer you in the right way. That said, we will not be censoring or moving posts or threads, unless they are mistakingly posted in the wrong section. We feel that the forum is for everyone, and everyone has an opinion. Okay, I pau
  3. Gregg

    Karmann Ghia

    I am impressed!
  4. The yellow Willys from AMT was buildable as a coupe or a pickup. Can't remember what the engine was.
  5. Dirk, you amaze me, as usual Can't wait to see this one done Will I see you at the Atlanta NNL in November?
  6. Thanks, guys. The black is flat black that I polished out, no clear at all, just Tamiya polishes and paint. Trick I found is not to use polishing rag to do the work. I used Q-Tips, and we (Jairus and I) put this tip in our column. When you use a polishing rag or cloth, you have no control, I don't care how small you make the rag around your finger tip, you are still polishing or removing paint using a scale area of about a foot or more! It's like polishing with a tent! Using a Q-Tip you get precise control, and virtually no burn through. The blue is Tamiya I think either Mica or Metallic Blue
  7. Our club is a having a Ferrari challenge, and here are two on the workbench right now: I'm also working on a few 43rd pieces, pics later on those.
  8. I'm insulted!!! I quit!!! I'm leaving...... I knew I should have followed in my fathers footsteps.... shoot, he died in quicksand......
  9. I have yet to try and use Alclad II for the chrome around the windows That will be a lot of masking and taping Might work out good, though
  10. What I try to do sometimes is cut out the BMF super straight and almost the exact size needed before putting it on. Works great for same size trim pieces, but for the back, maybe transfer shape with tracing paper, then onto BMF? Also, one thing I see in so many shows is that areas like the window frames show up so many rough spots and irregularities. This is due to the roughness of the paint. Try polish the area with a course or mild polish from Tamiya first. Or, if you're brave enough, sand it with super fine sandpaper.
  11. Heh, I just had one, leave me alone!!!!!! Welcome to the board, Matt.
  12. Billy, I take the blame for no NASCARs, I didn't get to make it to the tables with everything going on at NNL East. I made a quick walk through, and you're right, there were a lot of good ones there. I have to be more diligent on getting a broad base of model subjects in, I'll have to stay away from TOM KREN in the bar so my mind is clear!!!! :-) (does this mean I'm buyin in Toledo Tom?)
  13. I was blown away by all the trucks at the show. Makes you want to bring down those big boxes and actually finish them, yeah? The guys at the show were just as cool as their trucks, too. Nothing beats sitting around a table and talking about what your hobby with a great bunch of guys
  14. Bill, John, Billy, it was a blast, and every one else there that I met or hadn't seen in a long time. Yes, he's back, and no, no back..... :-) Sorry, I get that way somethimes. I will be at more shows this year, and I hope to bring my sidekick with me to as many as possible. Maybe I can get Jairus to come also :-) There I go again......
  15. That actually sounds like a great article. I would like to see and try the Care Kit. Get me thinking on future projects But tearing apart that gorgeous Alfa roadster may cause me ulcers
  16. XL? You Sure? :-) On the sprint car tires, and this is my thoughts, I think that before, when the Monogram Sprint cars first came out, guys went nuts for the right rear tires to use in Street Machines. now, with all the new kits with nice treaded wide rears, that is no longer a need. But, for the purist, I think they would like them for other dirt racing projects. Like the new kits being released under Model King and Dirt Track Race Cars. I have a question off subject on die-cast bodies/paint A lot of my Franklin Mint and CMW models are starting to go bad, looks like from the inside deep in the paint outwards. Like bubbling coming up. Have you seen this up there or in other areas? Is it a problem just in high humidity areas like here? Am I SOL? LOL
  17. And we never forget, we just go blind sometimes :-) I'm going to make up a custom shirt for you, that says "Hey, GREGG, it's me, GEORGE!!!!" :-) And tell Tom he's going to get one too. Glad to have you on the board
  18. We have many more planned! Stay tuned, don't touch that dial!
  19. Bill, I am always amazed at your work. It was really great seeing you at NNL East. Hope to see you at more shows this year also.
