I think the MPC Dan Gurney Olsenite Eagle has the 4 cam as an option, also.

1/25 MPC Carl Casper's Cosmic Charger Fuel Dragster
samdiego replied to dragnut's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, that went about as well as could be expected. The decals are a bit on the brittle side and stuck really hard to the One-Coat I used on the body. There was no sliding, I had to lift and pull each panel into place even with a drenching of Micro Set. I've planted large decals over this paint before, the GeeTO Tiger comes to mind, and I don't recall the sticking part. It was different than the Martini Porsche decalling. Those marks turned to ink pudding under the Micro-Scale products, wrinkled horribly and then settled perfectly in place over the compound curves of the rear fenders. I think they were Cartograph. Probably my favorite decalling experience. The Cosmic Charger's took a little rubbing, massaging and prodding to conform, but reacted to the solvents just enough to work. I'll give my app an 8 out of ten this time. I did rub off a small spot of print on the nose. I shot a couple coats of standard style Testors clear from the can over it all. There was a difference in color and size between the green graphics for the side where they are supposed to butt together. And you can glue the tail section together and still get the chassis in, sliding the slicks onto the rims halfway through the process. And now I'll admit to totally cheating on this one, I actually did it curbside after deciding to keep the Imperial Hemi for something that would show it off better, probably another old rail. Pretty happy with the end result. It was great to see it back on the shelves. Must have been the longest 1/24 FE rail model ever. -
Lindberg 1935 Auburn Boattail Speedster

I'd rather see the '33, but what an awesome subject for a new tool from Revell or Tamiya. If only -
Jonathan, you are correct, sir. I also overlooked my typo. I've had a white '94 for about 7 years. I've seen a few of the new ones here, I want one.

1/25 MPC Carl Casper's Cosmic Charger Fuel Dragster

I 40 percented mine at HL as well. $29.99? (gasp). It's getting to be the only way I can buy new kits anymore, that and HL's occasional deep discount piles. Test fitting was promising. The front wheels may be the best I've seen in this scale. If you opt for the front wheel spats you don't use them, though. The decals are impressive. They include a nice brochure style trifold that has good close ups of the real car and the explanation about the original's inaccuracies and there is a hefty typo in the show placard. I'm pretty geeked over this one, missed it on the first run, but 30 bucks? And, of course, since I shouldn't have spent the twenty on the CCS, Revell's '29 finally showed as well. Ah, they'll be around. The beautiful decals won't provide everything needed for an exact dupe of the orig paint, you will need to mask the rear portion for a red/blue split through the fenders. The instructions call for the body to be shot just in red but the spats and canopy should be blue. -
As popular as the are here, I hope they offer a left hand drive dash.

I saw one today in the local Hastings. It wasn't until then that I noticed the changes they made to the car to accommodate the figures that aren't included in this release. I was oddly excited about this until then. I suppose you could chop it lengthwise and eliminate the uprights. And it was 30 bucks. still there

They had a sport model too

I couldn't decide between the woody or the red trim, so since you can't see both sides at the same time . . . I also took the easy way out and decided to like the chrome blacked out from the beltline up -
Old Monogram Parts Restored ?
samdiego replied to Pete L.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks, Greg. I had the Boss A bone when it was new, but the Blue Beetle was a bit before I developed this habit. I see the mfg date stamp of 1964 but some of the chrome trees show a more modern tooling in areas like the part attachment points. And did the original BB have engine and wheel options. I'm remembering the BAB as a 1 version only kit -
Old Monogram Parts Restored ?
samdiego replied to Pete L.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So the Boss A Bone was a Danielized retool of the Blue Beetle? I just got a BB and am liking it a lot so far. The wheels and tires are great, how much of this kit is new? The decal sheet is really nice, too. -
I'd like to see pics of the 62. It almost seems that the Corvair is still under the radar price wise, so, keep it down (although I'm sure that's changing). They have been on the collectible car list since the 70s. My Dad and I were Clark's customers back then. I've got a white Franklin Mint '60, nice, heavy, but still die- casty and expensive and I don't want to modify it. It's in the background in my photos earlier here.

As far as the "how". From what little I know of industry, American tool and die makers are in short supply. Tooling may have been done in China by someone who's never even seen a '67 Camaro. My money is on somebody missing a "bring layer to front" command when this was layed up on a computer. I've done it and it's easy to miss.

Nice Grump, Jessie. I'm in the middle of liking this kit. My grille came out about the same as Daddyfink's. Obviously, the eggcrate is engraved where the bars should be. I'm thinking of a stiff wire that I could lay in there, or maybe some frets from my photo-etched stash. I find that the modernity of the design and layout of the kit itself is worth the investment. The attachment points on the chrome tree are one huge improvement over the old kits. The gauge treatment is nice. I would have liked a more detailed carb, though. The emblem issue is obviously a concession to maximizing the options for future releases. I'd guess I'd rather have decal emblems than to have to sand them off for base model builds. An RS small block is almost a certainty, I figure. Maybe they'll fix the grille and leave it on the tree plus the hidden headlight option. I'm also trying the wheel and tire combo from the Snap-tite '34 Ford. 15 and 14 in Torque Thrusts to give it a rubber rake like I wanted as a teen in the mid 70s. I did almost feel the price increase but was able to trump Hobby Lobby's $25.99 with a coupon and got it for under $17 inc tax. Getting to be the only way I can afford to buy kits. The days of springing for a kit just for the wheels or motor are gone for me. 1 glue covered thumb up.

Whats the story on the "Switchers" ?
samdiego replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for asking, mi amigos. I have some old in-progress shots. It hasn't grown any since the matte black mock-up stage. There is still a little body refining to be done. I'm easily distracted and usually have two or three things on the bench which is actually the living room. I've built this way continuously since I started in the 60s. What messes me up are the trips through the parts stashes. I came across the body while looking for the 6 carb intake I used here and off we go on a new project. Originally the intake was for the coupe you see in the background. In other words, it may be a while until progress is made. You can also see the tumbling dice shift knob. Just two pieces of 1/8 square stock drilled corner to corner and painted, on a straight pin. And the Quick change rear. The chassis is from the Revell kit,( I must have bought 5 inc the Rat Roaster) I think the wheels are Li'l Coffin. The rest is hazy, the intake may be Monogram. The 6 carb is one of my favorite looks for a motor topper. One of my goals was to have the fabric roof insert survive the chop, you can barely see it here, though . -

I did this a few years ago. Still need to finish it. -
what is flocking? help?
samdiego replied to the weapon x's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Who's flocking do you use? I like Ken's or Detail Master. I've tried the Martha Stewart stuff from Hobby Lobby and the fibers are too short for my liking. My best results have come from the wet method with Testors flat of the same color as the flocking. Yours looks pretty good. I've got some 77, that is some nasty stuff though, don't breathe it. -
Thanks. I hadn't thought of bottles. I clipped some sprue from the green tinted clear tree in the AMTronic. Turned out to be just right for an empty Coke Bottle to replace the chromed Coke bottle shift knob in my Monogram Garbage Truck
