Cool idea, nice work so far. Heres my LSR built several years ago... Its a Seaquest sub with F16 canopy, intake and exhaust.

I found that the metalspecks line works best with white primer... It really picks up whatever color is underneath.

Post your stalled projects

See my previous post... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=662 These were just the ones that I'd like to finish! -

One of my Faves is Tom's 65(?) Chevy with whitewalls! Tom, Great job on a kit that usually turns out like the box art. Its good to see someone go one better than they suggest!

"2Timer" My 61 Phoenix, finished
Steve H. replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love seeing them! It funny, because I wasn't even aware of the car until I saw this in 2001... I love fins, and the Phoenix is just "Over the Top". It quickly became one of my favorite cars of that era! -
Post your ford street rods please
Steve H. replied to sparkyd31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My most recent rod (and its several years old now!) 39 Chevy... Kind of a bodywork test mule (note to self... don't bother photographing black models!) Some of my stuff from the late 80's-early 90's... Friends and I restored this old 40 Ford custom for the SLC museum... -
Finished: 1957 Nomad with my first wired Engine *PICS*
Steve H. replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in Model Cars
Hey Billy, thats a pretty nice build. Hard to believe you were a brush paintin' kid just a year or so ago! -
The only other model I've finished this year... Wrapping it up just as Gregg was publishing the reference photos and Jairus' artwork for new Mustang ideas! Some of you probably saw this on the "other Board" when I posted a few months ago. AFX n Scale hood, grille, chin spoiler, side scoops, window vents and rear spoiler. Painted Testors lacquer GTS blue pearl, Tamiya light gunmetal stripes with Duplicolor champagne gold border and testors clear lacquer topcoat. Theres also testors flat and semi-gloss black lacquer on the trim. Last but not least, a shot of Alclad chrome in the taillight buckets. Believe me, there were a lot of masking sessions involved in this paint job! I used Tamiya clear red and clear orange on the lenses. The 18" pegasus wheels (which fit the kit tires w/ minor mods) are painted Tamiya light gunmetal. The Interior is painted with some off brand hi-temp engine paint, just because I like the color and tone of it. Testors flat and semi-gloss black, Alclad steel and chrome and Testors jet exhaust on the heat shields. Hope you like it!

Called 2Timer, because this was my second attempt at this model! You probably saw this last week, but heres the finished model in sunlight. Just a slammer, but I like it! Modelhaus body, dash, taillights and mags, Satco WhiteWalls, Other resin mfgr. interior tub. A warped promo gave up glass, front and rear bumpers and steering wheel. Duplicolor MetalSpecks blue, Tamiya clear blue topcoat, Testors lacquer clear. Bumpers are Alclad chrome. (still gotta work on that technique!) KDog graphics pinstripe decals. Interior is Testors flat white w/ Duplicolor arctic silver panels, topcoated w/ semigloss clear. I think she's a slinky little Kruizer... Hope you like it!

What kills a project for you?
Steve H. replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Both Jairus and James make good points... It is about the building part and improving skills! I've made it a goal to do something new on everything I build, for the last 5 yrs or so. I've always enjoyed being in "The Zone", working on something new and interesting. I've had many little projects that were just intended to try out new ideas, usually with no complete model in mind. That said, I still get frustrated with dropping a project that I have quite a bit of time invested in. I only build 3-4 models a year, and that time feels wasted (no, its not... just feels that way!) Of course, the old projects never get picked up again, because I'm an ADD model builder and theres always another killer project waiting in the wings! -
Nice custom work, Beautiful paint. If you're going to raise the skull shift, give it a tan/brown wash to bring out the detail.
-
Dave, you may be able to re-create cracked plexi with Testors liquid cement. That stuff crazes clear pretty good. Problem is... Unless you've got scrap, don't know how you'd test my theory! The haze could probably be done with some very fine sanding sticks and you could find something in white (makeup, maybe?) to obscure the window a little more. Whatever you do, Its gonna be another cool McGowan rod!

a word of caution about the Revell Z06 kit
Steve H. replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only experience I've had, so far, with Revell's new plastic is the Mustang. I had the hood to experiment with (used a resin hood) and shot it with Duplicolor scratch filling primer, Tamiya white primer and Testors lacquer primer... No crazing! I shot Testors lacquer GTS Blue pearl over that... No crazing! I even shot some tamiya light gunmetal on bare plastic... No crazing! The one common point I see with people who haven't had crazing is mist coats. As light as possible, regardless of how many passes you have to make, letting it flash cure between passes. Just my experience... -
Seems we hi-jacked your post... Never complimented you on the WIP.... Good lookin' ride, the wheels work well. And yes, I start projects the same way... gotta find the wheels and rake before it even gets considered an official project! BTW... Dogs Rule...

Maybe you should have your wife tell him you rule the house...

Completed Chrysler 300C

Yep, not my cup of tea, but yours is an excellent build, regardless! I'll probably build a Magnum when they come out, and I really like those wheels. -
24 Hour Build During the Race: C5R - First Model Ever
Steve H. replied to GTmike400's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thats a great first build! and only 20 hrs! But then again, you're a kid and can outlast the old guys (but they're better at pranks! Much, Much better... that was a good one!) -
Its a great kit to build, goes together well. Don't worry about paint, I used GTS (Viper) blue on mine. Go with what you like!

24 Hour build during the race: 2 Porsche 904's
Steve H. replied to Zoom Zoom's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That sounds like a fun get-together! I just don't think I could handle 20 hrs of building, anymore! I was going to comment on the paint rack, also... I wish I had space to be that organized!
