2006 Camaro Concept car buildup review finished
Steve H. replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in Model Cars
Came out nice, Craig! I'm surprised at the minimalist engine, but otherwise it looks like a great kit. P.S. Check your PM's, OK? -
Reps and minis of MD... great detail pieces! http://public.fotki.com/davetoups/aftermar...001_finned.html

I've had the pleasure of meeting both Carlos Santana and Kirk Hammet (Mettalica) at car shows. Carlos is an absolute gentleman, seriously one of the nicest people I've ever met. Kirk, on the other hand, is a Metalhead and hot rodder, with the personality to go with it! I've also met and chatted with Chip Foose, but wasn't there when he picked a model of mine as his celebrity pick! Among other famous people I've met there is Matt T., Pat Redmond, Bob Downie, Bob Paeth and a few others that I keep threatening to meet if I ever get to a midwest show!

Looking Good! Interesting touch on the seat, I like it.

Wicked! Keep it as is, its lookin' righteous! This build inspired my latest project, just cuz I liked the look ... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2516

Great rake on it! Looks to be a pretty cool project.

Sure! You pay shipping... $100!

Funny that everyone should mention off-white... I've been considering it. Pure white would look very "Show Car" while off-white (tamiya racing white or Testors wimbledon white) would give it more of a "past its Show Car prime" look. Since I'm thinking about doing some wear and tear type weathering, maybe it'll be off-white. I've also been photographing the spring perch scratchbuild, so maybe one of these days I'll post a how-to...

This should give some Collectors fits! But hey, the Willys is already built and a few of the pieces for the 32 are missing, so its really not that valuable. I also found a few tire burns on the plastic, so I'm actually doing a good deed by rescuing it from the box! This old kit has been kicking around in my stash for a while and the bug hit last week. I've spent the last week modifying the frame. Right now I need to get the wheel/axle assemblies together so I can finish off the suicide spring perch. Other ideas I plan are a S.C.O.T blown flathead and a chopped Revell 32 grill (can't say I like that custom grill in the kit!). I'll keep the funky "Custom" interior, though. The frame mods include a C'd rear frame, hogged out the rear spring mount area, added some X bracing, relocated the front crossmember forward, extended the front frame to include frame horns, spreader bar and suicide spring perch. I still need to build some motor mounts and finish off the spring perch. I should also try to scratch some deflated air bags for the rear, to help explain why the suspension is sitting on the frame! Of course, no planning session is complete without the patented "Steve Milberry Spoon Sample"! The paint will be Rust-o-leum Key lime. It doesn't show well in my pics, but this stuff is the brightest green imaginable! The frame, roof insert and interior will be white. I've also got some pinstripe decals from the MPC trikes that should work well with this color. Wheels and tires are Modelhaus, the finned brake drums are RMCoM. I have a few more items on order from RMCoM that should really work well for this build. Here's some proof that this kit is really old... (I know it was issued in the early 60's) Gotta love that price for a double kit! I've been going at it with great enthusiasm, so hopefully I'll have some more pics and info soon.

Very cool! You're pretty quick at building these things, aren't you? Anyway, really nice work, regardless of how long it take you! -
2005 Mustang Buildup Update! Interior pics! 12/09/06

In addition to Ken's question, I have another. Does the future hold up to any type of paint going over it? On my current build I'm going to use Tamiya primers. The Tamiya won't attack the Future, will it? -
Ta-Dah.. Used it and its just as nice! The metalspecks blue has a lot of silver in it and really needs the clear blue coverage. Glad to hear that my ideas aren't just stuck in a cold, dark part of my brain!

Is there an alternitive to Taluene?
Steve H. replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Milliput bonds to styrene on its own. I've only used it once, but after several years, I see no adverse effects. -
new...looking for new methods
Steve H. replied to customplassic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome to the MCM board, theres a lot you can pick up here! So many ideas, so little time... Glues: I use testors liquid (mostly) I find it melts styrene perfectly for me, resulting in a strong joint. Ca is useful, but only if its parts that go together cleanly (no time to adjust a joint). My 3rd most common glue is 2 part epoxy (especially when bonding resin, metals, other materials, etc...) Theres also Crystal clear, which is a thick white glue designed for glass. For tiny photoetch, I use clear acrylic paint. Filler: for skim coats, I use automotive bondo glaze (1 part tube). feathers nice, doesn't react to most paints, generally a good filler for me. I've recently starting using Tamiya putty. Its nice, but I don't have enough experience with it to know all the qualities of it. Scratchbuilding: Evergreen or Plastruct styrene. Both companies produce a wide range of sheet, rod, tube, square or rectangle stock. You'll be able to find just about anything to suit your needs. The best advice I can give you is to concentrate on one skill at a time (bodywork, scratchbuilding, engine detail, etc...) after several models, they'll all start to come together in a single project. The biggest problem most people have is trying to do too much in one single model. (boy, do I have some of those still on the bench!) I've been back into building since the late 80's, and just started feeling competent in the "Complete" model. Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy it! Build for yourself, and let the contest sort themselves out. all of the above info is what works for me... opinions may differ, but they're never wrong! -
Very cool! I used that paint combo on my chopper... Isn't that a sweet color?
-
Very nice, clean build! I like it very much, but of course, its got the DJP approval, so whats not to like!

Looks Great, very nice paint and decal work. BTW, only one of your pictures shows, need a /img on the other. -
Trust me, I know now... Just ended up with a 1/4" of #74 drill bit stuck in my thumb!!!

Hey Bob, Good to see you're still kickin' around and whackin' plastic. Maybe you should treat yourself to a vacation and come back to the NNL West next year! We haven't seen you there in years.

Kinda dumb question
Steve H. replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The luminary part stood for the builders that kept the hobby going thru the dark ages (the 1980's). -
What kind of music.....
