  1. NICE! I just sold the one in Todd's collection last month to someone in South Africa thru Global Shipping. It was nice - very little rash, one of the least rash I've seen. And yes these cars look great when cleaned up. Those working gas filler doors are always scary to me - way too easy to break, like so many of the other fine details on the nicer diecasts.
  2. Can't wait to see what you do with it. But for me, the OOB version looks like a Corvette, whether it's right or worng. Not something I'll be by=uying but I do love to see the modifications and such that can be done. I can always learn somethng and get to see a nice transformation. Thanks for sharing as you go.
  3. Sweet! With the removable skirts that's even better. And that green version is awesome!
  4. We have the cream version. Came with styro and missing top. $6 as part of the collection I bought a couple years ago. Wife loved it for her cars. Neither of us have any idea about the grille inaccuracy. I've read about it, but haven't even looked at it in a couple months. It's in a case on the shelf. If I do a big spread on coffee table, it goes on her end of table with her cars. We can get about 10 cars across the table if we try real hard. I just looked it up and see the difference. For my aesthetics, I like the bolder chrome grille of the chrome one but that could be corrected. Apparently the cream one was supposed to be reminiscent of Tom Mix's Cord? The maroon one seems the one you think about if you ever see one in your mind's eye. at least I did before we got the cream one. Did I sell you this one??? LOL Coiuld be - sold one out of Todd's collection not long ago - last month maybe? Nice car.
  5. That's a beauty. I shopped for it and the FM version. Ended up with the red/white FM version. No one that sees my cars has noticed the inaccuracy of the paint on it. Yet. LOL. I was really wanting one of these just for the green paint scheme. DM really did a better job, but I can't remember the timeline - probably later than the FM? Or just done better? Seems as if in most cases, DM did a better job in general for whatever reason. Sorry to hear of the shipping damage. Crazy that it could damaged so much in the original styro. Are the skirts removable? I have mine in a case with the top half deployed so you can see the marvel of that top.
  6. Well, they weren't that old when I built them. LOL. Kinda like the guys who built the first gen of kits that are still being reissued. I haven't paid attention to them being reissued.
  7. I think that may be the one then.
  8. When I had the opportunity years go, I bought the Tamiya Cherokee and the SATCO Pathfinder and 4Runner models. I always thought it couldn't hurt to buy stuff so maybe we could get more. I think the SATCO models were Aoshimas? Still will if it's interesting. We bought our real Santa Fe yesterday so that will be coming up soon. As the weather allows me to work in my minimally heated building. Wheels don't match ours and ours has the giant moon roof. But it will be close. We bought a different one than we started out looking at. Trackhawk would be nice to have...
  9. It really was an exotic, beautiful car. I liked these as much as any Ferrari since.
  10. This is a nice car. This is the one of Todd's that started my whole "nice car vs box and not nic car" discussion. Todd's is very much like this one. However, I used a polishing stick with the 3 grits (we all have at least one, right?) to smooth the hood and trunk rash. Followed by a judicious polishing with a poiishing wheel in the moto tool. I bought a bag of the cloth polishing wheels - they work great on painted diecasts. Will burn through Testors in a sticky minute though. At any rate, I am working to get this one in shape to sell and it is looking much better. I found an old can of "no. 7 polishing compound" in my desk drawer. probably 20 - 30 years old. Still has a price sticker on it - that's how old, lol. No UPC code. Stuff was separated into a solvent smelling liquid and more solid stuff at bottom. I mixed it some with a screwdriver and used it, then some progreessively finer polishes. Looking pretty good and the rash is pretty much gone. But on the non rash parts, just a fine polish really brought back the shine on this un. Should be worth a few more dollars when I sell it off soon. And really worth it for your personal cars. the gold tint on the wheels is unusual - never seen one do that. Thanks for sharing - now we need to compare this one and the green FM version? I might could do that if anyone really cares.
  11. The #72 is the one I have. I have a 1/43 Gulf car - can't remember the driver though. Need to get it out and look. Did Ickx drive a Gulf car? Might be that car? I can't een remember who made it now.
  12. Nice. Thanks for sharing
  13. I don't drive a 69 Camaro, so finding a model kit of a vehicle we actually own and drive is pretty cool to this old fart. I have plenty of models, diecasts and plastic builds of everything else, so why not a new SUV? I also have a 1/43 2007 Ford Edge diecast that's identical to the one in the driveway. And that is not easy to find. If ya don't like it, don't buy it.
  14. Nice. Lots of little things to look at there.
  15. That would be best way to display. It does look right that way. I did have a plastic built-up Koenig F40 that I liked pretty well.
  16. Nice. My wife has this one in her stuff. Not my thing, but she loves it.
  17. I have a GL convertible in Todd's stuff. It is a pretty nice piece as well. Amazing how nice and shapr the panel lines are the newer stuff. And cheap as well. Does the Maisto have any brake detail? Looks like nothing behind the wheels. That might make a decision for me. I like the green, but the ones I've seen are way worse on the paint issues around the lines. Almost as bad as my first can of testors candy apple red. Yours is the best I've seen on one of these. thanks for the comparo
  18. Didn't really get a new one, but finished modifying this one. I repainted the wheel centers and relettered the tires. Need to reset the door though. Closed too tight. I can almost accept the weird stripe angle at the rear now.
  19. I have one of these in a slightly different version and it is tiny compared to most other 1/64s.
  20. I know this is a bit of a high Jack, but I just boxed up a Welly BMW to go in the mail this evening. I was amazed at the shut lines. Took photos. This is a real cheap, but check out the panel gaps. Pretty tight and sharp. With the or if the way, this viper is looking great! Keep going. Really like to see it completed
  21. I'll be keeping mine a while.
  22. As awful as the interior, is this the only F40 with properly sized tires?. I.e. the rears are weirder than the fronts.
  23. Nice! Love the subject!
  24. I've wondered about this as well. Could it be that model companies, especially US makers, do this to enhance the "play" value to kids? I mean, really, when we were young and played with our models, would we have wanted the tires to rub or to be too far up in the openings for the car to play well? IDK, just a wild guess. If you didn't play with your models, this doesn't apply. But when I was a kid, metal axles were the BESTEST kits becasue they were tougher when built. To play with. I built the snappers with my kids and them turned them loose to play with. Still have some of them. Did you know an AMT "Slammer" model, straight from the box, makes a great door stop if you have interior doors that won't quite stay open? As an adult, how hard could it be to fix from the makers instead of us having to deal with it on the building end? The Mints gave us all sorts of working features at the ends of their runs. Why could the model makers not incorporated some of that tech into plastic kits? I mean I have diecasts with working suspension, properly opening doors, scissor hinges on the hood. Trumpeter tried, but I could never assemble those. Maybe that's why they didn't offer those features. Answer my own question, right? I know plastic isn't as durable, so maybe that's part of it too. But seems like the plastic kit makers could have done more for the adult collector segment. Kinda like how Fujimi tries with the EM series. The struggles are real...
  25. Guess what was waiting when i got home from work yesterday? Yep, this kit. Straight from Korea. Still have Korean air in the box and bags. lol. So, if you are wondering how long it might take one to get here, I ordered on Jan 14 and it arrive on Jan 29. Seller from ebay. Couple weeks. Not too shabby. Now we gotta get a real one. Wife is pretty sure she wants the Earthy Bronze version. I want to add the Convenience package for the upgraded stereo and dual zone a/c. We're searching the dealers for the perfect one within reasonable drive from home. Using the Hyundai website, which tells us where they are. I may start on the body and cleanup of parts. Can't do interior til we own the real one so I can make it identical. Looks like it will make a nice replica when complete. Nicely detailed parts if the surfaces are a little light on detail engraving. No real surface detail on seats. Which is okay, could be leather or cloth. I can do photos if anyone wants to see, but not much I can add that isn't in the video on page 1. Will probably do a build up thread when I get started.
