  1. Thanks everyone! The color is Testors Custom Lacquer Series Phoenician Yellow. It was the exact shade I was looking for. Ohh...and the wheels are the Keystone Classics from the 68 Charger kit.
  2. Thanks everyone! I have to say also, that the body on this kit has much better proportions than the glue kit.
  3. Thanks guys. I have to comment on the paint. I used Tamiya chrome yellow on this, and it covered very nicely! In fact, I sprayed it right over the bright green bare plastic without any primer or sealer. It also rubbed out very easily. No clear coat on this one.
  4. I wanted to do something with the `70 Chevelle kit I had sitting around as well, and decided to go pro street with it. I built this as a curbside, so no engine pics. Again, I think this one took less than two weeks....lightning fast for me. Wheels are my first attempt at resin casting, using masters from the `66 Malibu kit. The blower is from the Challenger kit, which is a little cartoonish in it`s size. Chassis is from the `67 Chevelle pro street kit. I wanted to build this up as a pro street Chevelle you might have seen around the time I was a kid. This is the type of thing I remember seeing in the magazines.
  5. I got tired of seeing this kit just sitting on the shelf, and I don`t have any GTOs to display, so I thought I would whip this one together quick while waiting to finish my main projects. This took me a total of about two weeks to complete, which is lightning fast for me. I actually "finished" this over a month ago, but I still haven`t had time to put the emblems on. That`s why you don`t see any emblems yet. I had a little trouble on the front bumper which you can see in the pics, but other than that, it was a terrific kit. In her home with the rest:
  6. That is a deep green! Nice work! Do you have any compatibility issues using the HOK over the Testors?

    56 chevy

That looks great. Excellent color choices, IMO.
  8. Monogram 1/12 `67 Corvette....not sure how many I built, but it is in at least the `teens now Monogram 1/12 `69 Camaro....almost as many as the Corvette Revell/Monogram 3rd gen Trans Ams... cant think of how many I built of these when these were original issues, but I know I built alot of them, I`ve also owned more than a few 1:1`s.
  9. Very nice work!!
  10. We`ll see how this goes. I am determined to complete *something* this year. And I am tired of seeing all my 1/8 kits just sitting around collecting dust. I guess how often I post updates will be based on interest, but they will probably be a little sporadic as my schedule is pretty crazy. Anyway, I will be combining the `78 and `82 kits to make it an `81. I had been looking for the `82 kit for a little while online, and low and behold, I walk into my LHS the other day, and someone had just brought back to the store an original *sealed* kit from when it was originally sold in the store back in the 80`s! I couldn`t believe it when I saw it there on the shelf. The `78 I had lying around for a while, and I am hoping to build that one as the pace car. Mainly I will be using the engine, interior, and wheels from the `78, and everything else from the `82. This will be a replica of a very specific Corvette from `81 that I thought was pretty significant. I won`t reveal that just yet though. But this will be similar to my 1/12 builds....factory stock, like it would look on the showroom floor.
  11. Lol. Or maybe this time spray enamel thinned with Laquer thinner? Those finishes are fantastic!!!
  12. After 30+ years of building, I tend not to read instructions too much any more. Yeah, I know, probably foolish. Honestly though, I`ve been using these paints back since the green Camaro almost a decade ago, and this is the first time I had problems. I`d be interested in your results once you get the clear on. Maybe I will try spraying the hood with clear and see what happens.
  13. Thanks for all the input guys....lots of good points. I dont think the problem is the lack of clear coat. I`ve never had trouble with this line before (and I`ve used *lots* of them), and I have two Corvettes in Classic White and Daytona Yellow right next to it which are plenty dry and polishable. I am using a mix of warm water and dish detergent for cleaning. But Kenny gave me a thought....so a food dehydrator dries paint 2x faster for every 10º above ambient temperature correct? Does this work in reverse? For the past week and a half, temps have been around 100º-105º around here because of the heat wave. I always bring my cars inside to dry, where it`s been 30º-35º cooler than outside temps. Could it be slowing down the drying times that much?
  14. This is the first time I tried this, spraying this stuff over bare plastic. This is on the Revell `66 GTO kit. I lightly sanded and washed the body, and then sprayed with 4 coats of the Phoenician Yellow. I have let it dry for about 2 weeks now, and I still cant use any compound on the body without it smearing. Has anyone had trouble with this?
  15. Thanks Monty! On the black vettes, I used Duplicolor black base, either Tamiya or Testors Custom Laquer Series for the stripes, and Duplicolor clear (lots of it). For the Red one I used Testors Custom Laquer Series for both the red base and the white stripe, and Duplicolor clear.
  16. A few more:
  17. Sooooo many nice builds in this thread!! I thought I posted some in here, but I guess not. Here are some of mine:
  18. Here is the two part urethane mentioned above on my 1:1. It sprays on beautifully, but the pattern is *very* large...so large in fact, that it is similar to my 1:1 spray gun! The pics are after sanding and buffing of course. And as someone else mentioned,it is very durable. Also, I`ve used duplicolor clear for years on my models with great results! The Big Scale Beauty was sprayed with it, color and clear.
  19. Thanks guys! I have been busy with my 1:1. Hopefully, I`ll be able to get some time here to start building again. I have a bunch of 1/8th`s sitting around waiting to be built.
  20. I can`t wait to see that Firebird on the shelves!! Hopefully we will see more Foose inspired stuff.
  21. Nice work! And nice color choice! B)
  22. I`ll throw my $.02 in here because I recently had concerns about what spraying hundreds of models in the past couple decades might be doing to my health. I`ve been using duplicolor for a loooonnnnggg time now....hundreds of cans. Rarely a respirator used. I`ve even sprayed entire cars with this stuff. I am definitely not condoning this though. If I had it to do over, I would definitely have wore a respirator more often. Anyway, I recently had a chest x-ray for something unrelated. I explained my history to the doctor because I was concerned about what my spray painting habits may be doing to my lungs, and he really didn`t care too much about how many time I had been exposed to chemicals or spray paints. He was much more concerned about whether or not I was a regular smoker. He also said our bodies have ways of renewing and cleaning out "bad" stuff from our system over time. I`m not saying we shouldn`t take precautions. I definitely wear my respirator more often now. But like GrandpaMcGurk said, I think there are much more immediate concerns we need to worry about. What soda, candy, and what they hand us at McDonalds does to our health should be much more concerning than our periodic use of duplicolor (or any other brand) spray paints, IMO. My $.02, for what it is worth.
  23. Thanks again everyone! In most of my reference pictures, the tires were about twice as wide as the ones on this build. I am assuming that they had the original size tires? The buyer sent me about 50 pictures and he was really exact on what he wanted. He actually restores 1:1 cars, so I am guessing the pics he sent me were of accurate restorations. I think the kits tires were *really* wide, even wider than the slicks from the Camaro/Corvette/`57 Chevy kits, and just looked blocky and out of scale.
  24. Have you guys ever tried Zep Purple Industrial Cleaner? I think that is what this guy is using, and he claims it strips the paint off plastic in a matter of minutes:
  25. Yep! Here it is:
