  1. Very cool...very old school! Please tell me you used the white Testors brush! ?
  2. Thanks for sharing Casey! I love looking at those old catalogs. Ahh, the memories... It would be nice to see that `85 kit reissued with IROC decals and wheels. Just saying. They would also need to change the front grill back to the old design on the `83 kit though.
  3. Thanks guys! It started out as the Revell 85 Camaro Z28 kit, with parts from the aftermarket and a few other kits.
  4. That`s really disappointing. The Irocs stood way out above the regular z/28 (and still do for collectors) in desirability here in the states. MPC already has an Iroc kit with the TPI setup. All they would really need to do is tool a set of accurate wheels and use the tires from the GTA kits. Revell, it would be a little more difficult, but they already do have the engine and tires (the GTA kit again), and would need to tweaks to the front fascia, the interior and of course, decals. They did it twice with the two big kits (1/8 and 1/16) converting the 82-84 Z/28 kits to Irocs, so I wish they would do the same for the 1/24 kit. I think it would sell much, much better than a re-hash of the plain `85 Camaro Z/28 we keep getting. Oh well....
  5. Thanks guys! I think we really need an accurate IROC kit in this scale that doesn't need to be modified right out of the box.
  6. Thanks Tommy! Actually, I use Duplicolor clear, but lots of it. ? There is also a good bit of prep and finish work involved.
  7. Thanks everyone! The kit I started with is below:
  8. This one was built from the Revell `85 Z/28 kit. The decals are from Ray`s kits, and are OUTSTANDING! Obviously, a lot had to be done to get an accurate Iroc. The wheels are the Pegasus Irocs, which are much to large for the MPC kit. However, the tires that came with the Irocs are way to small, so the tires are actually from the Monogram `55 pickup. The rear tires (wide ones) had to be cut into two pieces and mated with a half from the front tires (narrow ones) to make all 4 tires the same width. The interior is mostly scratchbuilt, with the seat patterns from a promo. The door panels had to be scratch built. The console and transmission were converted to automatic. The front bumper inlet, where the front license plate is location, was opened up and the lights, license plate holder, etc, had to be scratchbuilt. Valve covers are from the Impala kit. The exhaust is from the turbo GTA kit. Lots of other odds and ends...
  9. Good work! I`ve built many of these kits and know how difficult they can be. Did the kit come with the "Pace Car" lettering decals for the doors?
  10. Thanks Brian. Sounds like this will be an undertaking, if I decide to go ahead with it. I have a few of the 1/16 firebird models...I will have to take a closer look at the engine blocks.
  11. Do you guys know if there was ever a 1/16 by engine cast that would work well for a starting point for a Grand National or Turbo Firebird model in 1/16 scale? I cant think of any, and no luck on a google search. Thanks.
  12. Bringing this back up, as I will need the decals soon. Wrapping up my project....
  13. Thanks guys! Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Sorry, no other pics of the engine, or anything else for that matter, during the build. All I have are completed pics for some reason. The wheels are actually my drawing, printed out by shapeways, cast and copied, and then sent off to chrome. The tires came from an RC Lamborghini that I found cheap. Thanks!
  14. This is it for me this year. The big kit`s wheels are my design printed by Shapeways and cast in resin. The pickup is box stock.
  15. Here is another one with the same issue. The box art shows decent IROC wheels: In reality, you get the same tires and wheels as are on this:
  16. This one from Linberg is decent, but you get the less than appealing V-6 wheels and not the formula V8 wheels shown on the box: The wheels are actually like the ones on this:
  17. Not dead yet. I hope to share more builds soon.
  18. Thanks Marvin! 1. The Turbo T/A is a very rare 1/16 scale MPC "Trophy Series" kit. The kit actually still had the original price tag on it from Allied Hobbies around 1987 or so! It had working lights, which were also original. AFAIK, that kit has never been reissued. 2. I had to make those wheels. I drew them up, had them 3d printed, and then cast copies and sent them off to chrome. Expensive, but worth it IMO.
  19. Just adding my `81, and hoping to see more F-bodies!
  20. Thanks Echo! I definitely have my eyes on your decals. I am currently building the Revell 1/24 kit, but I also have an old MPC promo sitting here beside me. Are your decals designed for the 1/25 AMT and MPC kits? It appears the wheelbase difference between the two is about 3/16" between the two kits. I am thinking, though that is a considerable difference, that the "IROC-Z" door decals will probably be close enough for both scales. I will be needing silver ones btw. Will the anniversary version be in silver and black? Thanks.
  21. Do you remember what section of Hobby Lobby? I am not seeing them at my local one. I did buy a set like this several years ago, but they didn`t have the squadron name on them. I wonder if they were the same bits, or if another manufacturer placed their bits in the same container and repackaged them? Mine got dull pretty quickly. Are you happy with yours?
  22. Perfect. Thanks Matthijs. It looks like it could be 5 or 6 weeks for shipping. Has that been your experience?
  23. I am looking for Iroc Z decals in 1/24 scale. I want to avoid spending the $$ for any of the MPC kits, and I need them in Silver/Black which I don`t think has been done. Has anyone seen these available anywhere, or know of someone who would be willing to make them? Thanks.
  24. Very nice! And that green really looks like rallye green.
