  1. i always understood that by having only the driver side rear fog light will allow you to know where the car in front of you ends since a lot of car manufactures just wired the brakelight to come on when you pull the rear fog switch it would disable the brake lights alltoghether if both of them would light up
  2. thanks guys
  3. the paint started of with two coats of no name grey sandable primer then i shot two coats of model masters german silver (its a mettalic paint) out of a rattle can followed by 5 coats of model masters turn signal amber thinned down about 1:1 with laquer thinner the paint did gain a little more of a golden hue overnight (looked more green when it was wet) but this is what the paint looks like in the bottle as for the rims, they are just about as wide as the racing tires that came with the car so no tub was needed but i had to make sure i cut down the mounting pins because it is a tight fit (i really do like those old MPC chassis)
  4. thanks, its pizzaz purple nailpolish i think i paid 97 cents for it then i added about 3 dollars worth of thinner ran that through the airbrush and was high for 3 days, and thats WITH the fan on
  5. barely started and allready i ran into some major complications i botched up the paintjob to the point of it not looking anywhere like my origenal vision for the build so instead of doing the bare bones deal i changed it all over to a touring type car interior will now be updated with bucket seats, maybe a roll cage rolling stock will be saved for a later build (maybe a fairlane) and is replaced by a set of rims from a lambo diecast i got in on trade the striping will now need to be done in black (if anyone has an extra set please PM me) here are some shots of the body and the wheels (mocked up at the right ride height) clearly there is now way i can call this a factory paintjob wanna guess what that rear axle is made out of ?
  6. here is a quicky model i made, i got the body in on a trade minus motor and rolling stock deciced to mate it to the chassis of my sons remote controlled 2010 challenger all i did to the body was radius the rear fenders to allow for the massive rollers paint is nailpolish through a airbrush and tint is regular window tintingfilm i added locater tabs on the body and then superglued it to the chassis model is still RC and will do dognuts like nothing
  7. that dash looks nice to bad i dont have an extra tub laying around iether way, im going to have to reconsider where im going with this i laid down the paint last night and it didnt come out as i wanted it at all it looks more like a aqua green them turnsignal amber and with as glossy as it is i cant pull off the theme i wanted so im thinking of finding some more baller rims and going showcar with it
  8. hey guys this is where i will be showcasing the build of my 74 GTX roadrunner i remember the first time i bought this kit i wasnt very impressed with the boxart but for 7.50 i couldnt leave it there so i took her home as soon as i opened the box i was pleasantly surprised, not only did this kit include some awesome rear rubbers (threaded but clearly marked "for race use only") and a superbird wing it also has some of the nicest chrome engine dress-up im aware of at any rate... i had a set of steel wheels in my parts box and i wanted to build a no-nonsence muscle car based on those rims i found a matching set of from and rears (well, actually rears and deeper rears) and will be using the racing tires from the kit the front tires came out of the 442 kit power will be through a dressep up 440 with a sixpack setup and custom exhaust im order to run a custom exhaust on the MPC frame i had to remove the molded in piping and i will have to fill in the holes and smooth it out paint will be turnsignal orange, with a black hood ,black engine bay and white strobe stripes im planning on using the lowered front mounting points for the kingpins and raising the rear end up just a little then i will also try my hand at making a set of slapper bars the interior will be bone stock with the exception of some gauges and a pro shifter (remember, if it doesnt make it faster were not waiting money on it) this should be a relative quick build with all parts coming from the kit, the partsox or scratchbuild from stock (seeing how i got several builds waiting on parts) i should be able to have some pick up tonight as always, comments and suggestions are welcome
  9. quite often i give them away a select few are on display in the living room, right now: the chicken of the sea on top of the aquarium, the twin turbo 69 camaro and the grand prix lowrider in my avatar on the shelf intended for dvds in the entertainment center then there are a few more elected ones downstairs in the guestroom, a hemi cuda, a 74 GTX and a 53 F100 with trailer the rest are on shelves in my modeling room/gym
  10. hey andy, progress on the charger is slow so im changing my entry to a 1974 roadrunner this will be a barebones car with every extra penny going to speed all go and no show power will be a build 440
  11. those DOH turbine rims look good , they should move pretty well at the right price...what is the price ?

    69 nova

looks like your off to a good start (too bad it didnt come with a hemi though) about leaving it in primer, here is something to consider its a duster im waiting on (just need some parts for the engine to finsih it up) anyway, the paint is clear over primer
  13. Fahrvergnügen im on my second passat myself (with my dad driving a B5 passat variant, my sister a mark 3 golf, and my mom driving a polo i was bound to get one one day) my first one was a B5.5 bare bones passat, 1.8 turbo i had the ECU redone by speedtuningUSA, it would spike at 18 PSI and hond 16 all day long i had a set of jetta GTI rims on it and it was an awesome sleeper then i traded in for a 2.0T B6 i still miss that "getting rear ended by a freightrain" feeling once you hit boost it was almost like hitting 88 MPH in a delorean
  14. my point was that there are tons of car companies that borow parts from each other (in this case hyundai borrowed the 2.0T from mitsu)
  15. those are nice Kaleb i think you will feel right at home in the "car art" section of our forum thats where we keep al the sketches, drawings, painting and you name it that our members make also, go into the community build section and look at the jairus build youll like that
  16. the very thought is apolling
  17. that looks like a fun project i figured you wouldnt be able to build a kit OOB though (not that im any better at it) i think they usually refer to these "what if" models as a phantom if you think about how car companies trade bits and pieces around a chevy engine in a ford really isnt that far of a stretch they used mazda engines before and during the DSM era youd find mitsu mills in dodges even today if you buy a JDM 4G93T of ebay there is a good chance it still has the hyundai valve cover on it
  18. you ever hear the saying "if i havent seen it it's new to me" come to think of it, we had a thread once with all the models shown on TV my favorite is still the episode of the simpsons where nelson makes a model of the family sitting on the couch put it together, paints it, puts an M80 in it and blew it up
  19. todays episode opens with a shot of allen sitting on the kitchen table singing the song "cars" to himself while building the revell 78 firebird throughout the episode there are refferences back to model car (the general lee, the transam from smokey and the bandit) and why this shows how hopeless the guy is my favorite line so far "you're asking my WHY a 40 year old man shouldnt talk about model cars on a first date"
  20. as interesting as the history behind it is...i dont think it really awnsers the question one of the best things about modeling is that you can do whatever you want slap a 426 into a lotus elise ? sure put a honda engine in the back of a acura to make it all wheel drive ? have it at build a car in a style that does not match its vintage ? why, your actually being creative point being, as much apreciated as the information on what a gasser is, i think we would be even more impressed if we got some good advise on how to turn ANY model of ANY year into a gasser so, what type of engine ? what kind of wheels? what suspension set up ? thanks guys (P.S. i realise i didnt answer the question either....but my dad was barely born during the era of the gassers so i know nothing)
  21. my grandmother passed away several years ago after a stuggle with cancer she had been bedridden for a few months and during this time she had knit little socks for all her great grandchildren to be (i didnt find this out until my son was born last valentines day and my mom gave me the socks her mom had made years before he was even born) when she died everyone was ready for it a few years later my grandfather died from injuries from a car crash he was in a coma for a week or two which gave me enough time to travel back home i went to see him right after my plane landed he was alive when i got there but never woke up again and he died that same night it was a completely different situation then when my grandma died being able to say goodbye when you know the time is coming is a great blessing
  22. where about are you ? around here in michigan if we get 2 foot of snow overnight and i call in because of it my boss would laugh at me i remember back home though, if we got a half an inch people wouldnt know what to do funny thing, my dad said they had about a foot over the last week , that more snow then i have seen there in my entire youth put together must be that global warming
