  1. its all old man johnsons fault for leaving this one out in the field rather then in the pullbarn with the challengers and chargers and suchs
  2. the guys hauled the deo home today and you wont beleive what they found rusted out wheelwells in a dodge for crying out loud and the bed wasnt all that great either so larry, daryl and his other brother darryl decided it was time for some cutting, grinding and welding the entire bottom of the bed was removed and a new one was fabricated while the boys where at it they also tubbed the wheel wells just in case they get their hands on a set of offroad tires (the best spots are always of the beaten paths) since they had the welder out larry started making a roof rack for the camper and the boys drew up this here scetsh on how the interior will look i should be able to post some pictures tonight
  3. if only there was a video game in which you can build models
  4. thanks for the ideas im not planning on building a big hill but maybe a few inches over the entire diorama (its depicting a woodland area and i have never seen one with a smooth surface) ill think about what i want to do and go shopping later on
  5. thats a nice looking suby there Josh i cant wait till my boy is old enough and we can build together, im using my nephew untill then, hes about your age just like with everyhing else, your painting skills will improve wiht practice so dont sweat it, just keep building were those seat belts part of the kit or are they aftermarket ? either way, they look great
  6. that looks good vaugh, im gonna have to try that but i do want a little more slope in my dio, like im camping on the foot of a hill i wondering if i could make that raise with the wood filler or if that would be too much and crack it
  7. i got a 69 charger im building for a different CBP all i got is half the engine done...no other progress i can ad that in here ? just for the fun of it, here is a model i build for our last muscle car CBP
  8. thanks vaughn i may have to change from foam to pressboard just because i can get that for free but i liked the idea of being able to push the trees into place rather then drilling holes got any pictures of your dio ?
  9. thanks for the advise guys as for what i am invisioning: a old muddy two track that runs through the woods (though i will only show the woods behind it) there will be a clearing where the campsite itself will be with a fireplace in it charlie, that tent looks great and im gonna peek around that site some more but there will be no tent there instead, this will be the sleeping qaurters http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38980
  10. thanks ian that is exactly right yes i am, i got a few little tricks up my sleeve im not willing to share yet the camper is made for the deora, you just cant tell because the body is primered but it is all part of the same kit as soon as i get the wheels figured out i can start building the interior
  11. hey guys, im starting work soon on my camping diorama i plan on making the base out of foam, covered with paper mache (spelling?) for some depth and grass and trees any suggestions on how to get the best looking result ? i want a campsite in the woods
  12. i know, its mean to start a WIP thread without pics but ive had this idea roll around my head for about a year now, ever since a seen this movie (cant remember the name of it) where there was a hunter who showed up in a pickemuptruck converted to mobile hunting camp and i just got this deora in on trade, i guess i got carried away
  13. well, lary really did it this time after he spilled a can of stinkbait in ma's winnebago during thier last noodling trip they are no longer allowed to take ma's ride out anywhere so now he needs something new to go camping, fishing or hunting with off he went to local cardealers but nothing was withing his budget at his wits end he consulted his brother daryl and his other brother darryl and between the 3 of them they found the anwser old man johnson used to have a dodge dealership and he still had some old stock sitting in the backyard...there had got to be something usefull in there and low and behold, they found just what they was looking for....a dodge deora WITH a camper back that needed only a little TLC (motor, tranny, frame, glass, paintjob, wheels and some bodywork....but the radio works like a charm) and this is where the rebuild will take place....more soon to come
  14. thats how i got my very own table cloth dedicated to modeling welcome aboard andy youll find a nice home here, lost of good ideas and advise
  15. looks great, its truely inspiring maybe i should pull mine out of the paintremover but then again, that is set in my partswasher which has a lid and you know what happens to flat surfaces in the garages, they get piled on
  17. id hate to be a partypooper but dont you think the one on top (the star i guess) should at least have some paint on it ?
  18. didnt you enter this last time ?
  19. dont you mean the sidewall of the tires ? i gotta admit, im one of the people who hate this look on the 1:1 cars but you did a great job replicating it, so that gets a thumbs up
  20. yeppers its iether gonna be that or the snotrod from cars ill try to work out a deal for that model
  21. im thinking of building a 68 hemi barracuda for this build would this still qualify or is there too much work done ? its a 69 model with a 68 front end conversion , side marker delete and taillight panel fix allready done
  22. the reason i use acrylic is because you can thin it with water and it wont affect the painjob underneath
  23. i love the way the snow sits on the tires really makes it pop
  24. too bad macnally is in boston and not LA otherwise he would have tossed old vic the keys to an impounded 2008 escalade with 25 on it come to think if it, hes better of with the dually
  25. i always start of with black acrylic paint i thin that out untill it is very runny then i just slap it on (and depending on what im doing) i wipe down the high spots let it dry in and if its still too shiny or too two dimensional looking i repeat the proces
