maybe that should be the ultimate goal in this challenge because a lot of kits come with extra parts and this would even dictate which hood and rims to use i just might be interested in entering

i have a partially build pick'm'up truck that i started for a different CBP i beleive the 4 rules of that build were 1 has to be a truck made after 1960 2 has to have a stock bed 3 has to be a V8 engine 4 has to be done before the dead line here is what my entry was its a 1956 VW bug converted to a front engine rear wheel drive pick'm'up with a custom turbod GTI swap and scratchbuild bed (my initial entry was a joke just ragging on the rules and whoever was in charge allowed it because of how ridiculous it is) clearly i managed to break every rule woudlnt hurt to finish this one

i like it one thing that surprises me is that you are adding plugwires and your still building the models without painting them (though i do think i see some detail painting on the doorhandles) i think if you would ad some paint your models would really pop your definatly on the right track

that came out really cool looking (i was wondering how the progress was on that build but i havent been online myself in ages to check up on it) looks like that blue decal is a close match to the blue on the bike...awesome now lets just hope your father in law wont see it before boxing day -
cant go wrong with the camaro, i bougth one for my 11 year old nephew and he loved it one word of advise though...stay away from the cop out duster it is a great kit and i love the subject to death BUT it is terribly mislabeled as a beginner kit (with as much chrome parts that make up the suspension as that kit has i had trouble putting it together)

looks good man (not sure what you meant with the muscle car build comment, that one ended half a year ago didnt it?) are you planning on keeping those tires ? they look a little ofroadish to me

this is one of my favorites, the AMT 74 GTX i origenally bought the kit because it was on sale for half off but then when i got thekit home it turned out really nice and had a lot of chromed and extra parts in it that werent advertised on the box this is another one of those kits, i bought it because the price was right (had a 40% off coupon) but the whole thing just has a cool feel to it (i think its one of the best looking camaros out there, whatever revell did wrong is what chevy should have done) -

i remember being back in the Netherlands when it happened i was building a set of 1900 diesel engines when the radio i was listening too went to a live news cast regarding the attacks i remember trying to figure out how for new york was from michigan (i know i flew in from JFK once) where my girlfriend lived cant believe its been 9 years (on a side note, also cant believe to see you online again james) -
thanks for the replies guys i checked for updates and there are non available i guess ill see if there is a setting on photobucket that makes them smaller its just that i know there was a time they would show up at 25 or 31 or something % of origenal on the computer...not getting why its not doing that anymore
-
im not sure how to change the settings on the camera (its the wifeys phone anyway) MikeMC, the reason i want smaller pictures is because right now they are about 5 times bigger then my screen, if i were to post this picture for instance : all i can see on my monitor is the tranny (here is a thumb, lets see how that works)

seems to me they would work just fine as airfilters, the only reason they usually install some tubing is to get colder air into the engine (those turbos get hot) i think your right, it does come with a nice ratchet shifter but your wrong on the back seat, it actually comes with one that has cut outs for the roll bar so you are "forced" to install that my only gripe with the kit is that it doesnt have extra gauges, if that were my engine i would want a boost gauge and a AFR guage at the very least (might ad that later) as for the rims, they aremt my favorite (i love the ones on the red side) but i agree, that flow well with the car, specially in white i picked up some paint yesterday so i can do some interior work over the weekend
-
this was my first photoshoot with the cuda clip on the wall and im very pleased with the way it looks and all the positive reactions ive gotten to it as to why i picked this kit...like i said before i'm not a chevy guy but the boxart just grabbed my attention (maybe this looks better then the way chevy designed the camaro ) and when i read it had a twin turbo i was sold so far this kit is coming together very nicely and i really cant complain about it (i dont like the mismatched rims but like you said, thats period/aplication accurate) only thing i just dont get is how would this turbo set up work? isnt the stock aircleaner one massive boostleak?
-
thanks for the kind words guys the kit is indeed the revell 85-0870 camaro it comes with two different hoodscoops (niether one i wanted to use on here) and the twin turbo set up as you see it funny thing, the setup has a big design flaw in it, it comes with two aircleaners that mount right in the turbo (i still need to install those) and a third aircleaner that sits on the conventional spot on top of the carb not quite right i think it also comes with 2 half sets of rims, the two that are on the drivers side are the front rims and for the rears the kit had a set of spiders in keeping with the paint i decided to keep different rims on each side this kit may be the most chromed kit ive ever build apart from the usual parts like the valve covers and alternator half the engine is chrome: the entire exhaust, oilpan, bellhousing, fan pulleys and belt and even some interior parts like the rollcage and fire extinguisher
-
not really a chevy guy but i had a coupon for 40 % off and this looked like a nice out of box build to knock out in a week or two. the engine is the kits stock 302 with a twin turbo set up it was quite a pain getting all those chrome intake parts to line up but i think it came out allright the wifey suggested i paint the block white (in keeping with the outside of the car) and i figured a twin turbo Z28 just might be baller enough to pull it off...you decide i got the first parts of the two tone paint job done but i will need to touch up on the white since i oversprayed the red way too much about the paintjob...when i was young i scooted around town on dirtbikes, i went everywhere on those things and i was always getting into trouble with the cops usually i would just get some rattle cans and paint my bike a different color when the cops got to know it too well one day me and my buddies were sitting in the bar and we had this great idea...what if we painted one side of the bike bleu and the other side red? that would cut our changes of being recognized in half so we did and thats where the idea for this paintjob came from

Do decals expire ??
diymirage replied to Van Halen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i find that most of the times if you store decals in a dry place the stay good for a long time (i keep mine in a old chocolate tin) whenever i want to use decals that are ages old or just plain questionable i cut them out as close as possible and shoot a few coats if clear over the decals make sure you give it plenty of time to dry before you put it in the water that way, even if the decal itself wants to fall apart the clear coat will hold it together its not 100% garantued but it seems to do the trick 80-90% of the time -
the trick is to very slowly build up the paint of the yellow coat (you always want to lay the lighter colour down first) by building the paint up slowly it gets a nice deep colour without getting really thick which will help you when youre ready to polish it i would say 3-4 coats of clear should be enough to cover up the transistion and then you can polish up the clear without worrying about going through the base but if your not sure just go ahead and practice on some spare bodies or hoods (everyone has plenty of spare hood to practice on)
