  1. i know, its pretty amazing how mature we are considering we're a bunch of (mostly) grown men playing with cars i wouldnt worry bout getting to that family status, you'll get there soon enough, even replying to my ramblings gets you points ive been on forums where posts in the "of topic" section were left out of the post counts
  2. styrene makes sheets that are 7 by 12 (i think) that come in all sorts of profile, bricks included this is my backdrop , i used old signs that are made of foam they had paper stickers on them and once i pulled those off the remaining paper looked like concrete (kinda like when you have a cardboard box and you pull the tape of it)
  3. i remember this one incident when i was 12-13 years of age...maybe even younger it was the 5th of december and i had gotten a model kit of two helicopters (one being a bell UH1D) from sinterklaas (the original saint from whom santaclaus is plagiarized) anyway, i take my kit up to my little room and i sit down at my desk instead of neatly cutting the bag open with a pair of scissors i hold it up with my right hand and decide to slash it with the exacto knife i was holding in my left hand (almost in the same way you would crank a whip or cast a flyrod) well, my depth perception was off just a hair and i ended up slicing my thumb open i remember looking in there and seeing what i thought was the bone (turned out to be the tenant) laying like a shiny yellow tube on the bottom of a pink ravine i stared at it for about half a second and then the blood started gushing out me and my parent went to the doctor who was on call and my dad was very nervous being a little kid myself i didnt notice the alcohol on the doctors breath (it being a national holiday he must have been having a few drinks with the family, not expecting to actually get called in) but he sowed me up quite nicely anyway as i sit here typing, more then a decade later, i can still see the 1 inch scare at the base of my thumb
  5. i remember back in the day when your status was looker michelle now your just a friend must be the age hitting you huh ? just kidding, but im sure you knew that there are no leghumpers on this forum
  6. you did a great job on that for some reason it reminds me of a line from the song "country gentleman" if i recall correctly it says "you think you're all that but you're looking like scotsdale"
  7. it looks like a piece but that was the point right ? nice weathering i especially like the under hood area, looks very authentic
  8. id hate to be the one to bring this up but it looks like its missing the foglights other then that it looks nice (even without the foggers, still a very nice looking ride)
  9. seem a great looking big rig pull up at my job today, tons of custom stuff on it, lime green everything pete'
  10. most of the kits i build are late 60s to mid 70s muscle cars, there is just something about the lines of those cars you cant find anywhere else most of them come out looking like a street machine i guess but it really depends, sometimes i build a car based on a paintscheme i have in my head like this nascar converted to a lowrider i had the vision for the hood and it only seemed fitting to be on a lowrider so thats how that car came to be this hemi cuda on the other hand was build around an engine i had the log mani with the 8 seperate carbs left over from a 396 desoto firedome hemi and i build the entire car around it...so i picked a body i thought it would work in, added rims tires and a wing i could imagine to go with the engine and went from there and sometimes its my big mouth that gets my in trouble like this 65 vw beetle converted into a front engine (GTI 1.6L) rear wheel drive pickup truck i jokingly said to enter into a truck buildoff where the rules stated it had to be a post 1970 stock bedded pickup truck with at least a V8 which i was then called upon to build (should really finish this some day) but as a general rule, i like them like this: street cars running from mild to wild and from 16 year old kid working on his first car to all out pinks racer (this sardine challenger was mainly build based on the inspiration i got from seeing a camaro on here with a gorgeous lace job) this challenger was build based on a diecast my father in law has, the idea was "what would the car look like that inspired the concept challenger as it was build in this diecast?"
  11. why not try the "wanted" section ? there are plenty of kits that come with them and they shouldnt be hard to trade
  12. thats a nice start you are of to there mr. hunter you know, i too was looking for some deep rims the other day (converting a dually truck into something with mickey thompsons on there just as wide as both stock rear wheels put together) and i found that i had a set of rims that were about 5/8th in diameter i cut the bead of them and found me some 5/8th ID conduit tubing and cut that down to 3/4 lengths after i glued the rims inside the tube and glued a bead of half round styrene around the leading edge it actually looked pretty good maybe a good idea for a future project?
  13. looks like a good idea wayne i make some custom decals myself and its stuff like this that you want to keep around to float the rest of your operation. i think the main thing to do is get your name out there and whenever you build a model with your own custom decals on it let people know you made them, you know, advertise (one of the reasons i have my pontiac as my avatar)
  14. any chance these fit the 74 GTX ?
  15. i got an old revell of germany srt10 in my stash one of these days it will be build as a replcia of tom coronells ride with which he set the track record on the nurnberg ring (not sure if its still in his name or not)
  16. mine is one of them but ever since the baby was born and the wifey started working i can count the hours i had free over the last 6 months on one hand
  17. it does that to me sometimes aswell, a quick tap on the refresh button fixes it everytime
  18. looks like your off to a good start there (not sure why it makes me want to eat chinese food though) like you said patience is the name of the game but you'll get there
  19. rubbing just a few drops of canola oil on your finger tips will allow the glue to "float" on top of that rather then eat into your finger thats also the glue i use for chrome, metal and wiring
  20. welcome aboard tom you'll find a nice group of people here, full of advise (mostly good) and never too poor to help a fellow modeler out
  21. i got a set o5 of 1:35 (or so) german anti aircraft guns that i have for just such a project try looking into those?
  22. if you need a test car for those drag radials they would be a perfect match for my quadcammihemi engine ill be sure to write a great review in return
  23. looks great and i really like the paint hope i was able to inspire you sum in this build only thing i dint like about is is the centerlines but thats not your fault, they toss those darn things in just about every kit they make and im just sick of them
  24. feel free to use some pictures of my DOHC hemi as reference material, if you feel so inclined how are those tires coming along ? the wifey is getting her first paycheck tomorrow and i cant wait to spend it
  25. thats cool i like the painting on it what did you use to make the flared ends on the manifold end ? here is what the same turbos look like on a real engine
