diymirage replied to JamesW's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
sure am i got another week and a half here in the old country then when i get back to the US ill get cracking on this -
looks like your off to a good start ive had one of these on/under my workbench for the better part of a year now started with a stock beetle, cut the rear end much like yours and scratched everything else flipped the front end changed the drive train to a front engine rear wheel drive with a custom turbo'd GTI engine and a supra rear end
-
that come out great i dont like the black chrome but the overall look of the car is great very nice twotone and the red pinstripe really sets it off and the black on the bottom of the hood gives it that överhauled project car look and for a first time foil job it looks great, much better then my first (or second or third) try where did you find the rims ? the look like the 17 inch jetta rims i have on my passat
-
i agree the bras coloured accents on the undercarriage make it all look great now if only they were mopars

hi jessie welcome aboard the GTX is my favorite

looking for top shelf decal person(s)
diymirage replied to comp1839's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
i can make some decals for you but i dont think i can meet all your demands i have just a regular printer that prints on white or clear decal paper so if yer interested in that we might be able to work somehting out shoot me a PM -
thats a nice build you got there lani i really like the paint and your dad made a good cal starting you off on a kit that is low on chrome i remember i bought my 12 year old nephew a copout duster kit that was labeled as a easy builder kit but the front end was nothing but chrome and it was a pain for me to assemble that, let alone him cant wait to see the vette

Duplicolor primer - to airbrush or to spray from aerosol
diymirage replied to Steve362's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
i never bother shooting primer through an airbrush to me it seems to work fine coming from a spraycan however, if you think this can spray in a unacceptable pattern i would suggest changing the nozzle anytime i empty out a spray can i save the nozzle, just in case i run into a can with a bad nozzle or i clog one up halfway through -
i would suggest primering the engine and here is why : the engine will get handled more then just about any other part of the build because of detailing and mock ups i find with my build a lot of times the paint of the engine will wear off where i hold it (the oilpan and tranny mostly) primering will cause the paint to adhere better and rub off less

looks like you got your work cut out for you if you need a hand go right ahead and mail a few of the GTXs to me and ill finish em

what is the best way to rescale images ?
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
is the gimp vector based? i played with it a little and the enlarged pictures looked grainy (on the screen, without even printing them) -
its of to a nice start for shizzle quick question, do the revell of germany WRC kits come with opening bonnets and full detail ? also, here is some inspiration for you, its also a revell (US branch) focus, from thier tuner series and even though the paint sceme is based on a tasty WRX car but with an engine that packs a little more of a punch then the 2.0 ecotec

this one i printed on testors white paper and the hood on this one is printed on testors clear (just the girl, the blue fade out is airbrushed)
-
i have used it with good results there are 2 things to really keep an eye one most important what printer do you have ? testors has decal paper for inkjet and laser printers and the two can NOT be mixed secondly, what are you printing ? the reason i ask is because there is white and clear decal paper the clear will not show white so you will have to paint the white parts before aplying the decal the white will need to be cut very precise so you wont get a halo effect having said all this...you may want to out ebay for generic decal paper i just ordered 10 A4 size sheets for 13 dollars shipped
