thanks guys i do like making my own decals from time to time but this was a build i did just to get one out not a ton of detail in the kit so its an easy one and i didnt want to spend 3 weeks designing decals for it (somehow the design proces takes me forever) as for the spiders, this is my second build with them and i do like them alot they are my second favorite wheel after the used to death cragar SS the chrome is box stock with only a single coating of weathering on them im going to have to do some more work on them to get the sheens about eqaul since the fronts and backs came out of different kits and look different right now i dont have alclad or any expirience with it but it is on my Christmass list Jim, if you like her right now wait untill you see the mill

Where to buy these days?
diymirage replied to rust-n-dust's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i dont know if you have a meijers store nearby but they used to carry models nowadays though, they only carry them around Christmass i was in there last week and bought the special edition 69 charger for 11.99 the rest of the year there is hobby lobby and micheals both of them have email newsletters you can sign up for that usually include a 40 or 50 % off one item coupon that also brings the prices down close to 12 dollars my last trick is look on ebay for lots of 4 or more kits try to buy them as cheap as possible, pick one kit you like and try to sell the leftovers (iether by themselves or as a lot) for close to as much as you paid for the whole lot -
got some work done over the last week im pretty much set with the body, just waiting on the speedy parts to finish the engine and the decals i didnt want to stick with the flat hood (too flat) and i didnt like the custom scoop on it (too tall) so i too a look in my partsbox and came up with a corvette hood a friend of mine actually had a 1:1 chevy lumina in white with a black corvertte scoop on it looked really cool but it was like driving a powdered donut anyway,i grafted the corvette hood to the stock unit and painted it to match the sceme on the car for once i liked the decals provided in the kit so i decided to match the paint job to it wouldnt you know it, i tore one of the decals in a thousand pieces but i should have some new ones come in the mail soon

Best way to strip a model
diymirage replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i find the easiest way to strip a model is to get her drunk as for the glue, your best bet (though not garantued) is to put it in the freezer for a day or so a lot of times that causes the glue to break make sure you put the model in a ziplock bag so you dont lose any parts what i have found a good way for removing paint is iether brake fluid or oven cleaner in both cases just put the parts in a siplock bag and pour (or spray) the stuff on then let it sit for a day orso and get a nailbrush out to scrub it clean -
i wouldnt bother with the putty unless you want it to look like it is welded on whenever i try to mate parts that need to be rigourosly attached i like to drill a hole in both sides and iether superglue a pin in there or a small peice of styrene , knida like a dowel

if im not mistaking you want a silver base coat that you spray the pearl over to make it pop more (but i would hold out for the more expirienced painters to chime in

How to Remove "Ghost Trim"
diymirage replied to diymirage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
if i would put a coat of clear over it before laying down the base would that seal it ? -
hey guys ive been using the bondo glazing putty for some minor body work and i really like the way it handles the only thing i dnt like about it is the way that it will ghost with some paints (i dont have a picture right now but a great example is a hood where i filled in the holes with styrene, smoothed it out with the putty but after paint it still shows the outline of the hole in a different shade) what do you guys use for a sealer ?

simpsons did it, simpsons did it or actually, we did it about a year ago

looks like a nice bash you got there i would just go ahead and get a little rol of soldering tin and try my hand at scratchbuilding some headers really, its not hard, you just drill a hole in the head and insert the solder then just form it by hand and put it where it flows nicely

on a unrelated note, volkswagen is backdating the technology on thier next generation jetta by about 20 years to make it more apealing to the US market just two changes are the 3 (or 4 cant remember) link suspension will be replaced with A-arms and instead of running disc brakes on all 4s they will be putting drums on the backwheels again

thanks guys this turned out to be a very fun build there was only one issue with it....i have no where to put it i just now realised that most of my newer models are in the guestroom and the oldies reside in my man cave but i have no display in the living room the idea behind having different wheels on each side is in keeping with the two profiles, almost like a jeckle and hide deal tyler, i do have the box laying around still, its one of the re-issues with the white/grey background and the yellow/bleu car need a picture of it ?

here is the dodge dually snapkit that i turned into a worktruck converted the rear end to fit mickey thompsons scratchbuild a toolbox for it and put a shaker scoop on it to make it look like it has an engine in it not a full model but i had to put this baby in here twin turbo'd DOHC 426 HEMI not sure what it will go in yet also not a full model but something ive been wanting to do for ages and finally got round to this year a "wall ornament" for my scale model garage and a shot on the wall but i guess my main pic for this year is this kit right here which build up looks like this some of the custom features are custom headlights, taillights sidepipes and flipflop hood

I need the help of 6 individuals
diymirage replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hard to make a reply to this, i dont want to fan any flames but i definatly see your point (kinda in the same boat on a smaller scale myself) normally i would say that 99% of the people we deal with here are closer to the first variety (the one who donated the extra $10) then to the second variety but somehow you found 6 of those i guess i will try to put all this aside by saying, be sure to PM me next time you are in a bind on a build and i will find you the part you need to finish your project at least that takes one worrie away from you
