Wheel diameter question for you all.
whale392 replied to whale392's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Matt, Many thanks for your info and site links! I will be using them soon (saying that I might actually get back to work on the KW W900A I started HOW long ago? ). I have to finish the 62 Buick, the 1991 Mustang GT, and at least the Levin before I can continue with the KW. -

Thanks for the replies. I was wanting to do a drop-deck 48' or a double-drop 53' trailer. -
May be working late Ron....I may not have been moved to second shift yet but one of our planes crapped its' engines hot side yesterday........we are scrambling to get it done by Friday morning.

I like the way your interior is looking. Most people won't even know how much work you put into this, and they won't know it isn't 100% anyway......I would be proud to call it mine.

Early 60s Dodges and Plymouths were so ugly thet were cool! Dad had a 62 Plymouth Fury convert and I thought it was too odd looking to be stock; then he showed me the Dart! Beautiful job on an ugly car....I like it!

HobbyTown is a preferred partner, and one store had them while another did not (guess which store I happened to be at?). You more than likely won't see them at Hobby Lobby or Micheals for another 2 months or so (to let the big market-specific shops have their shot at selling them). Even Grandview Hobbies (located 10 minutes from the one HobbyTown) will not get his until mid-September due to him NOT being a preferred partner.

Still requiring me to log in. Sometimes I just like to 'ghost' as a guest to see who's on and what's up. And second; if potential members can't even look at the site, how are we supposed to get new members? Or is this just for the ISPs of logged members? -
HooRah brother! As a prior Squid (don't hold that against me.......airdale to boot!) I have infinate respect for the Marines. Who else would hit a hostile area all the while letting a bunch of drunk squids lob shells over their heads?

Build your 8.8" to handle anything. I have the info (if you want it) to build an 8.8" up to handle 1,000hp or go blisteringly fast around a corner.

Now, I will admit to not knowing Semis that well. I know that there are two different wheel diameters (common anyway). What are they? I ask because I can pick up the 1/32 scale Mack/Tanker kit cheap and was wondering if the 1/32nd scale wheels would spec out to the smaller diameter wheels in 1/24-1/25th scale. Or, if someone sells the smaller diameter wheels/tires I will buy them versus killing a perfectly good kit just for the wheels/tires.

Mark, the 94-98 axles do have ABS tone wheels, but so do the later Lincoln MKVII axles. The brake backing plate (the bracket that the caliper bolts to) was modified to hold the ABS pick-up sensor. As to axle interchangability, as I mentioned earlier the 1994-98 axles will work in the 1986-93 housings as well. Also of note, the 7.5" rear uses the same 4 bolt attachment points and axle dimensions as the pre-99 8.8" rears, so you can swap any 7.5" alxe into an 8.8" rear as well. Even the 9" axles have the same 28 spline shape/diameter as the 7.5"/8.8"...but have different ends. A lot of us road-race guys will run the 9" axles in our 8.8" housings after we modify our axle tube ends for the 9" press-fit bearing retainer (C-Clip eliminators are illegal in most classes of sanctioned racing). Now, with a carrier change, you can run the later 33 spline axles in the earlier housings as well.

How not to get bench time.

When I add Rum to whatever I am doing, either nothing gets done or I find myself in Uncle Sams Ironbar Hotel! Heal up quick, your HO town needs their Mayor in good shape. -
I'd be happy if half of my projects turned out that nice. Great looking Jada Camaro!

If you don't like what the Maverick was, make it into what you want it to be! Killer Mav........love it!

I just happen to have the very same kit (see the 62 Buick build thread in this section) that needs a rebuild. This is a great build and shows me that this kit can be stunning. I was going to shoot mine in the same color you chose for yours; beautiful shade but now I need to find another hue!
-
Looking good Dan! I like the color. If I remember correctly, the Hirohita Merc had a much darker Green laid in under the 56 Buick style Chrome side trim. Do you plan something like that for this?

62 Buick Electra 225 for the BCAS 'same kit' build.

Dan, the sinks can be overcome easily. If I can do it, I know you can! Thanks for the words on the 61'. I still have the trailer, toolbox, and A-frame cherry picker this kit came with somewhere. The working pullies and hooks for the picker were awesome and stunningly done for a 60s kit. Anyway, I want to see yours done and at the meeting. The girlfriend and I can't be the only ones bringing finished kits to the meet (assuming I finish this one!) can we? -
Your information is incorrect. The 8.8" rear axle housing is the same width from 1986-1998, it is the axles themselves that are different lengths but will interchange as long as you change the corresponding brake backing plates. Marks' info on Ranger/Aerostar Axles is correct, they are Fox length and you will have to source Ranger drums........all other aspects are the same brake-wise. Disc axles from the Lincoln MKVII(and its' LSC variant), SVO Mustang, and 1994-98 Mustang are all 3/4" longer than the FOX units, but will interchange along with the brake backing plates. Be warned though, the disc diameter is different between the cars and calipers varied so you will need to grab the corresponding discs/calipers. 1999-2004 housings are wider, along with the axles being 3" longer per side. If you want any more info, PM me. I could fill a thread with just what I have, or go over to foureyedpride.com and into their wheels/tires/brakes section and surf till your mouse dies.

And since I mentioned the 'Special' at the end of last installment, I figured I'd at least let you see what I am starting with. , , , , , , , , She is a 1961 Buick Special Station Wagon kit. Glass and rear bumper are MIA, but mostly all there. Someone had started to add some goofy pillar into it, and I will correct this with .040"x.040" styrene. However, she will be 2-doored and the rims you see under her are from a Nissan GTR33 Skyline and will be staying. I have a spare C6 drivetrain I was thinking of transplanting into her (once I open the hood). Color undecided, but that will come with time. -

Ok, I also had to shave the grill support bar (cast into the rear of the grill) to get it to sit flush with the recessed headlight buckets; and remove some of the area behind the buckets to get the grill upper ledge to tuck into the front end of the body. , , , , . Now I have to fill in the front of the front wheelwells to match it up/re-radius it to the wheel profile and bumper tip. I will wait to do this until I get the 21" sleeves from the machinist so that I know exactly how much material to add. I also am finding/filling most of the sink marks on this (so much for a 'quick build').....lots of them on this one. Two deep recesses are in the front fender tops where the molds came together. With the addition of core (mold) shift, they are a problem. Nothing filling and sanding won't cure though! , Got the rear bumper area smoothed, fitted, and the bumper test-fit as well. Overall........she is slowly coming together (spare time is a little in short supply right now. -

Well, I guess it's pic time. Not a whole lot to report, but it has been riding in a bag back and forth to work with me for the last week waiting for me to fix the C-pillars. Well, I did..........but I am still unhappy with the overall backlight upper arch (I will leave it though, as I do not feel like fixing the pillars again). This is how she looked all last week! This is how the backlight arch looks now....a little lower (I want to take more out, but am afraid to break it again!) , , , , , , You can see the Frankenstiening the roof took (is still taking) to get it to the point it is at today. I have a lot more to do to it, but I am happier with it now. Have to add in the rear window chrome trim upper and C-pillar pieces, and add the drip railing (although I almost like the smoothed railing look!). -
Good deal. Look forward to seeing more of this.

As for current 1/24th-1/25th Harleys........find the 2001 release of the Harley Truck, trailer, and FLDWG bike. Also, Maisto die-cast has 6 series' of 1/24th scale die-cast Harleys of quite a few different years. With work, the Maistos can be really cool! The old Revell 'Cherry Bomb' kit had a Flatside Shovel Chopper in it.

Well Jon; interesting for sure. Personally I coudn't blend kits this well, but my astetic eye tells me it looks like the front clip has a slight upward slant as it progresses from the door/fender seem to the grill surround. Also, the side windows are sweet, but the roof above it looks WAY too tall for such a sweeping window line. However, like I said, I cannot blend kits this well, so my opinion is just that. Keep at this, I want to see what she looks like shiny!
