News of Revell molding preparing in US

So far the only thing I've seen is from the flyer they put out pre-bankruptcy (which for all I know could just be a photoshopped Mach 1): -
A little column A, a little column B...
-
I’ve said it in other threads and I just wanted to reiterate it here, the bankruptcy was 100% on Hobbico/Great Planes/Tower. Revell had been turning a profit and even with their parent company (and main distributor) in serious trouble were only ~$800,000 in the red for 2017. Their parent had a loss in 2017 of something like $30 million.
-
Doubt it. Just found out the other day new Revell US is not going to be the importer for Revell-Germany. Distributors are going to have to buy straight from Germany. Which might work out for the better, Hobbico was only ordering RoG restocks every quarter. The Dist’s I’ve talked to expect to be able to put an order in every month.

They probably will just photoshop them into the box art, which was built from test shots. Pretty standard for box art models to be missing decals/final engravings and details/etc. that the production kit will have. Note that there are no underhood decals shown either.

Some better/larger pics.

Thanks for pointing that out! It wasn't me, I swear!

Right now, a tentative December and we're taking pre-orders (shameless self-plug) https://www.megahobby.com/products/preorder-1968-chevelle-ss-396-1-24-revell.html Just a heads up, we take payment up front on pre-orders which we've found helps the whole process go a lot smoother for all parties involved.

Don’t tell them you have an old kit, you have to tell them you have the current issue of the kit. That’s like Parts Mooching 101. -

What type of car is this?

Speaking of prototypes, there was a prototype Packard made that would have reintroduced the brand for MY 1999. They could not secure funding and the project failed. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/SJ14/Motor-City/lots/r112-1999-packard-twelve-prototype/181083 -
Yep! iHobby 2014 I believe.

Based on how "meh" the reception to the 1/16 MPC Firebirds has been I'd say don't bother. The 1/8 '65 Corvette molds are in Poland with Revell Germany's stuff so it would have been retained by the new owners. -

The Earnhardt squarebird from that series says made in the usa on it. Edit: I see a 2002 Jeff Gordon Monte on ebay that still says made in the USA that's the latest I've been able to confirm. Found a 2003 Dale Jr that says Made in China. -

Yeah I remember those later Montes were not quite as nice as the Lumina. That Lumina blew me away when it came out especially comparing it to the other Monogram and AMT NASCAR kits at the time. -

Bummer. You know, I've still never seen that kit in the flesh. I remember pining for it after seeing it in the 92(?) catalog and going to every local plastic pusher looking for one and by then Oldsmobile had left and I was sure it would never actually come out. It wasn't until the internet came along that I was able to look it up and see that it did really exist. I know, I can go on ebay and get one for $10 but it'll never be the same as it would have been had I actually found one on the shelf. That kit was my white whale for years. -

Up through 93 I'm guessing would include the rather short-lived Oldsmobile that was done right as Olds was leaving the sport? I think it was only done as Joe Ruttman's Dinner Bell 75 and in the Morgan-McClure Kodak combo as Ernie Irvan's #4. It used the more modern chassis from the Lumina rather than the older chassis shared by the other GM kits. I'm pretty sure that's the only Monogram NASCAR kit I never built as a kid. -

To me the biggest drawback with old NASCAR kits is you know the decals are likey going to be trash, so having new runs with fresh, well-done decal sheets might help some. Not everybody wants to have buy a kit and a decal sheet. Not to mention the box appeal of a NASCAR kit to collectors, I feel like the vast majority of NASCAR kits were probably bought and sat on a shelf somewhere with no intention to build just because of the driver on the box. Probably a big reason why there's so many on the secondary market nowadays. I've heard it said through many sources that those 80's NASCAR kits and the subsequent craze is what saved Monogram from going under. They were really struggling at the time. -
From their email: Very Big News! You may have heard of some very big news from Atlantis Model Co. that they have purchased a considerable portion of the molds for Revell, Monogram, and some of the other Hobbico owned companies from Revell Germany that were stored in Revell’s Elk Grove, IL warehouse. Well we were fortunate enough to work out arrangements with Pete and Rick of Atlantis Model Co. and we are now the proud owners and guardians of the entire catalog of Revell and Monogram’s American made stock car molds from 1980 through the 1990s! In the very near future Salvinos J R Models will be adding these kits into our catalog with new drivers, new decals and some updated bodies to go on these platforms. Of course, these kits will not replace our original designs; we will continue to produce as many original Salvinos J R Models kits as we had previously planned, but these will be additional as we will continue to supply American made model kits to the collectors! We would very much like to thank Pete and Rick of Atlantis Model Co. for giving us this opportunity to serve the stock car model community of builders and keep this hobby growing. Don't forget we will be releasing our 1974 and 1977 original Monte Carlo designs in October and another new kit coming in December. If you haven’t yet, you should order your Donnie Allison Oldsmobile kits, we only have about 25% of the run left and we should be shipping about the third week of September. Thanks! Rick and Jim As always, like and follow us on Facebook!

A good chunk of their current product line is made from that old Revell-owned tooling, the Aurora DC-9, the Phantom & Witch Doctor, Flash Gordon, Invaders UFO, the old Aurora T-Rex, etc. and was being produced for them by Revell through a licensing deal similar to how Model King used to do AMT/MPC models.
