  1. Steve, I'm bummed , no doubt about it ! All they have to do is come and see me , I can help ! That , however , isn't going to happen ! On to the important ! Two knife blade tips worth of Pearl X per 3/4 ozs of Testors clear topcoat cut with a 2 to 1 clear to cheap laquer thinner ratio . You can add more depending on how much you want to alter the color . Mist coats are the key here ! Too heavy and you'll pull the pearl downward and cause it to slump . You can also alternate the PearlX coats with straight clear ones to make it deeper , shinewise . This will also enhance the color dance under the lighting !
  2. You'll have to fight for it , Stump chaser ! Lol ! Thanks , buddy ! Appreciate it ! Jim , I mix it straight into the clear . I will also stagger straight clear , with the PearlX laden clear if I'm using more than one color or if I want it to be subtle , coatwise !
  3. That's my point ! Tired of going around with my pockets hanging out ! Lol ! We'll have to see , believe me it's been discussed ! With everything that was coming along the pike , financialwise , I've been careful about it . Y'all be seeing more of me in the magazine soon enough too !
  4. J , I've had 24 more years to practice and play then you have ! Keep pushing upward , you'll get there ! As for the color ? No blues used ! I never give my colors away , so get a set and start playing with them ! You'll love the results and gain an education in the process ! Imagine some of those recent purchases of your's in some of these colors ! Try different base coats with same colored or corresponding overlays , you'll fall in love with them !
  5. Uhuh ! Lol ! Kath's son and my youngest daughter just graduated from high school , parties for both kids , replace this , upgrade that , etc ! Life itself , you know what it's all about , Skip ! As for the new DVDs , do I want to go back into debt to the tune of $22,000 right now ? Not so sure about that ! The discussions are continuing on the subject !
  6. Michaels , Amazon , Dickblics , or any well supplied art store . Sets come in 12 - 24 - or 32 jars to a package .
  7. Simply put , Skip ? I am now down to my I phone ! My computer committed cybercide several months ago and I haven't replaced it as of yet . If it weren't for Virgil's encouraging admonishment on occasion , these pictures wouldn't even be here . It's not something that I really consider or think about on a regular basis. If it weren't for Virg , Bob Dudek , Glenn Dyles , and John Snider , I'd pretty much be an airbrush hermit , so to speak ! Lol! These guys are a tremendous help and I'd be lost without them ! Take The Blonde out of the equation and I'm a train wreck waiting to happen ! So , for the forseeable future , The Doc will run the photo ops for me ! By the way , thank you , Virgil !
  8. So's Christmas , Resin Boy ! Lol ! All good , D ! I'm just going to hang bits and pieces off of the front blades of The Immolator with a little slime and guts / gore thrown in for good measure !
  9. Well , guess I need to cuss Revell out for this one . According to the directions , what appeared to be a custom / chrome magneto was mounted on the rear of the motor . I didn't like the magneto set up , too small to work with , so I simply replaced it with a distributor cap .
  10. Sorry ! Tried to get here sooner , but ........ Camaro has a Testors base with blue/ green pearl x overlay . Much more aqua in color than the photos indicate , these pearls are tough to photograph due to their subtleness. Nova is done with Boyds Tru Blue Pearl . The jury is still out on this one , still considering a silverbased pearl x overlay , just not on the front burner with this one right now . Love this Dart ! Testors base with bright gold pearl x overlay , paint surely does the shimmer dance ! Did one of these up in red awile back , color came out looking like flame itself ! With a superior product like Slixx decals , Virgil , even I can lay em down the right way ! Lol ! Can't say enough about these Pearl X additives , they have really opened up the color spectrum for me ! The Doc and I have been trading color recipes back and forth like two old biddies on bingo night . Lol !
  11. " Z " , You need to quit chasin' those parked cars in Meadville ! Lol ! Thanks for the kudos , Gang ! Revell's '48 Ford done up in a custom mix of Pearl X powders . I sanded the roof down a bit . To my eye , the peak in the front was a bit too pronounced ! Aside from removing the lower door hinge , body was prepped as I normally would do . Tires are from R & M M , wheels are Bob Dudek's sombrero caps with spinners from the Revell ' 32 roadster added on . Detail Master wire and fittings , MAD distributor cap , and MAS steel tubing were used throughout for detailing . Interior is done up in Testors Angel Blue & White two tone . Motor and frame were lightly weathered with Alphacolor earth tone pastel chalks , applied with a stiff brush . I expanded the horizons a bit here , I was looking to create an early ' 50's era hot rod , something that a local kid might have built as a daily driver . I was pleased with the outcome , first time shot at this type of build off my bench ! High marks to Revell on this kit ! This kit practically falls together ! Hmmmmmm ? Pro street on the next go around ? Could be ! Lol!
  12. The Revell kit would be the best overall kit ! You will have to do some trimming and paring away to get a 409 to fit in the engine bay . Expect to do the same with the rear axle to get the rear slicks up inside the rear quarters .
  13. Monty , Sounds to me as though tiger striping is occurring ! Needs to have a wider spray pattern coming out of the airbrush ! What size needle / head assembly is being used on what type of airbrush would be my first question .
  14. No , I don't . I use nothing but Testors semi gloss black enamel which is alot more forgiving than most when it comes to filling and smoothing . Putting primer underneath it is only an added thickness to the part's appearance . All of my parts are sanded up to a minimum of 1500 grit which is plenty smooth for frames , axles , shackles , etc . As for mixing the Testors with the Tamiya , I'd test it first on a plastic spoon . Hobby paints do not always get along with other manufactured brands .
  15. Nope ! Another scratch waiting to happen . Thumb on left rain gutter , forefinger wrapped around to right side of frame , pick straight up ! Spin , lay on lefthand fingers formed into a tripod , set down on tips of fingers .
  16. Just throwing the proverbial wrench around , but......... We all get a touch of glue on our fingertips from time to time , correct ? You feel it , you wipe it off , end of story ! What happens when you get glue on the gloves ? You're screwed !
  17. Nice build up ! Especially like the color !
  18. Cut your baptismal money out of your shirt pocket and go buy one ! Lol !
  19. Nope ! Found them in the scrapbook section at my store . They are a product manufactured by Jacquards . Small sets contain 12 jars , large set 24 , deluxe set 32 . Hope this helps !
  20. Yep ! That I am ! The Pearl X additives come in powder form which are mixed into your clear . There are 32 different colors in the large set . Greg just ordered a set from DickBlik , said it cost him around $60 which included shipping . I bought a few smaller sets at Michaels and the large set from an art supply house in Pgh . Wide array of beautiful colors , nothing garish , provides a very pretty spectrum with a subtle flip flop to it . Virgil and I have been playing with them for a few months , passing color recipes back and forth using different color combinations and base coats ! I highly recommend them !
  21. Well, lookee here ! Get tired of chasin' stumps with that pointed head of your's yet? This kit is right up your alley , Glenn ! Early muscle with more then a few building avenues to pursue ! Be a great kit for you to add to your drag racing collection . Thanks for the painting instructions , I'd be lost like you are , except when Miss Betty ties that rope around your waist . I guess that guarantees that you'll get back to the house after taking the garbage out , huh ?
  22. Scary part of it ? I usually can . Drives Kathie crazy at times when we " consolidate " the ever growing monster . After 50 years of playing with countless numbers of Amt , MPC , etc, I should be able to identify most , if not all of the parts . She'll bring a box of loose parts to me , I go through it , tell her which is what to this or that kit , she just laughs ! Tells me I need help , could this be true ? Lol !
  23. Dan , It's the fit of the glass , there are gap issues involved . I sanded the edges to get a better fit , worked for the most part , rear window still has issues . Need to get my butt to Michaels and find some thick waxed thread . Thanks to the Forum I know how to dodge this bullet on the next one . In the meantime , I have to practice CMA on this build . I won't show it in this condition ! Weather strip and tailgate chains are all that's left and then she's complete ! As for using the laquer thinner , C'mon in the water is fine ! Lol ! What's there to be afraid of ?
