how to get decals off....
LoneWolf15 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Scotch tape will rule the day on this one ! Stick it to the decal and pull it off . Sometimes it takes a few tries . Any glue residue from the decal can be polished off with a little bit of Novus 2 on a soft piece of cotton t shirt . -
Airbrush - paasche or badger?
LoneWolf15 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Paache H Series , using the # 5 head and needle assembly , in my opinion , can't be beat . My opinion , of coarse , but it's the best that I've ever used . No learning curve , parts are readily available , easy and quick to maintain , last , but not least , cost effective which seems to be the major hurdle around here . The kit is easy to find on line for a very good price as Jim mentioned . Myself , I use dixieart.com for all of my Paache needs , which is one more source you can investigate . -
MicroMark .com 2400 up to 12000 grit . They also sell the Novus polish kit .

Wrap them individually in toilet paper , then repeat the process with bubble wrap . Don't be stingy with the toilet paper either ! It will help hold the small parts in place , cushion the build , and prevent break off . The bubble wrap will allow you to stack them on top of each other and prevent them from moving around .

So ... When Does My Watch Arrive?

There is also a subtraction clause for each time you have been told to go to your room ! Looks like you owe , big time ! Sorry ! No watch for you ! -
Another thing to be taken into consideration is the fact that there will always be another kit to build . Unlike a 1 : 1 build , you're not stuck with the results for all time . You make mistakes on a model car , learn from them , and then move forward to the next build ! Build a firm foundation , the only place to go is upward and onward , skillwise from there !

T , once Doc gets settled back in , he might add some more for you ! Lol !

Thinning enamel paint
LoneWolf15 replied to sportandmiah's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try it ! Learn the hard way , O' Inquiring One ! Lol ! Too thin. Has a tendency to run and dry flat with a porous surface . 1 to 2 , now you're taking a chance on etching the plastic due to the amount of laquer in the mix . As for Austin's comment ... You have it backwards , Little Buddy ! You want a weak / cheap laquer thinner not a strong one . A hot laquer thinner will curdle the enamel , cause it to crack , and play havoc with the plastic ! Doug , the 2 to 1 ratio gives me the most consistent results which is exactly what we all strive for ! However , if you want to experiment , by all means , please do so ! Remember one thing , though ! Your window for adjustment on the ratio is rather small ! Too much thinner , body is cooked ! Not enough ? Airbrush is spitting mud ! How do I know ? Cue Murphy's maniacal laughter from the cage in the back of the shop ? -
Air brushing from a compressed air tank?
LoneWolf15 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pat is correct ! It is the simplest of tasks . I know there are times that my posts are almost blunt with my opinions on what I feel is right or wrong on a subject , here's why . I want to keep airbrushing as simple and enjoyable for everyone as I possibly can . To achieve this , you need to remove any and all distractions that you possibly can ! If you're watching a gauge , or a moisture trap , worrying about what ifs , your focus is not on the task at hand ..... Airbrushing that model ! Setting the proper work environment will improve your paint work 10 fold ! Paint area clean? Check ! Plenty of air ? Check ! Inline moisture traps ? Check ! Where is all of your attention now ? On the paintwork where it should be ! I realize that finances have to be considered also . However , putting your money into your equipment first , and buying the kits second is a much better bet ! Good equipment is always going to lead to far better results . Having good equipment in place , a method in using it , and a good painting environment will keep O'l Murphy out of the equation . Now all you have to do is have fun and focus on your paintwork which will improve with each and every session ! -
Air brushing from a compressed air tank?
LoneWolf15 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rob, Here's the problem , last sweep , final coat , air runs out half way through the pass , airbrush sputters ! Now you have spatter marks ! Can you guess how I know about this scenario ? Murphy is sitting in the corner of the shop laughing his miserable behind off , he remembers , the little jerk ! -
Airbrush Question
LoneWolf15 replied to Big Daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Using the Paache H series airbrush , the Badger jars screw right up into the siphon cap without a problem . The jars that come with said air brush kit are exactly the same as the Badger units . -

Air brush compressors: tank vs tankless
LoneWolf15 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A tank is a necessity ! Hobby compressors run constantly , wear and tear as was mentioned ! They also produce more than their fair share of condensate if run continuously for a period of time ! If you become too involved with the airbrushing , you might not notice that the moisture trap has become overwhelmed . Moisture's next stop? Right in the middle of your final gloss coat ! -
Using enamels cut to a 2 to 1 paint to thinner ratio , coupled with a 32 psi regulator setting produces consistent results . With this paint / pressure ratio , the atomization is perfect coming out of the airbrush . The paint lays down smooth and allows a multitude of mist coats to be applied without running or sagging .
