  1. Well. Today was Callie's first day of classes for nursing school . She called last night to get a pep talk to calm the nerves a bit . I did The Dad speech and calmed her down . She then proceeded to tell me I owed her brunch after class being that it was her first day and all ! Lol ! Some things never seem to change and I hope they never will ! It's a joy to see them grow up and a pain at the same time ! Like my Daddy always said , " Son , when they're little , they pull on the apron strings " . " When they get big , they pull on the heart strings ". Amazing how the older I've gotten , the smarter he's become !
  2. Patrick , Good for you ! May it be the first of many more to come ! Keep pushing that envelope ! Every build will be better than the last !
  3. A spin through The Gasser Wars book prompted me to build a match race car , hence the exaggerated nose stance . Body and frame color are a custom mix of Testors enamels . Decals are a mixed bag from the Slixx sheets . Detail Master fittings and wire were used throughout the build . MAD distributor & ignition box , MAS steel tubing , Bob Dudek aluminum Moon tank and bug catcher round it all out . Interior is done up in aluminum , indigo blue, and orange with masking tape belt harness & Detail Master hardware . Frame and motor were slightly weathered with Alphacolor earth tone pastel chalks . As for the rear weather stripping in the back , it's a roundtoit deal . Once I install the grill , I'll probably touch the rear windows in . On an interesting note , concerning the front and rear windows on this car ...... Gasser Wars photos show the weather stripping either painted over or with the windshield , non existent in the later years . The latter day Mazmanian Willys was a prime example of this . Thanks for the kind words of praise , they are greatly appreciated !
  4. Since switching jobs , the steady 3 to 11 shift comes in handy , modeling wise . 3 to 4 hours a day is the minimum amount of time spent either at the bench or in the booth . I've gotten alot done , buildwise , as of late . Due to Mother Nature's input , the airbrushing end of the deal has suffered ! . We're starting to see some respite from the humidity the last few days. Temps are supposed to be lower , so back to the booth we'll go !
  5. Bench time today ? None ! Bench time tomorrow ? Not likely ! Solution ? Multitask ! Build in my head while snaking the drain ! Yep ! That'll work !
  6. On the money ! Color fits the subject perfectly . An Aztec Queen , weathered and worn , still regal , yet a bit time worn . Put the rusty ruffles away , Virg ! Time to break out that shiny blue sequined party dress ! Lol !
  7. When I first started out , I used Dad's old desk in the basement . Eventually , as the house was remodeled , we ended up with our own area in the basement under the new addition . My brothers and I , along with our buddies , built there for years . My parents and relatives all encouraged us , showering us with kits on birthdays and at Christmas . It was a great way to grow up , would not have changed one minute of it !
  8. Yep ! Yost Hotel is always open , guaranteed vacancy , first class accommodations ! October is good !
  9. That'll work ! Simple and sweet ! Love it !
  10. Ahhhhhhhhhh ! It's magic ! Now , how cool is that ? Lol !
  11. Hmmmnn, I have noticed that since you have turned 50 , the projects are being turned out a bit slower ! We might have to up your Geritol dosages or buy bigger tennis balls for the walker ! Lmao ! Looking good , Virg , keep at it !
  12. The oldest is an elementary school teacher and a mother of two . The younger is an RN in North Carolina who delivered my third granddaughter this morning which makes two for her ! Callie Rae starts nursing school next Monday morning . Thankfully , she will be living at home for the next 4 years . I dropped her off at the airport last Wednesday for her flight to visit her sister in NC and fought off the tears till I was halfway home . If this one ever moves away , I'm in biiiiig trouble ! She has been my sidekick for the past 17 years and I'd be lost without her . They all grow up , enjoy them as much as you can , let them go without visible regret , and revel in their accomplishments ! The grandkids are the icing on the cake !
  13. Testors ! Cut it 50 / 50 with the laquer thinner , it'll knock the shine down quick and dry even quicker !
  14. Wash the body off with either Bleche White or Top Job , this will remove any wax residue . Follow up with Dawn blue dish detergent , rinse throughly , blow dry it off , you're ready to reshoot it !
  15. Not sure where you posted it up , we did discuss it back then when you were first starting your build . Hence the reason for picking on you ....... As usual ! Lol ! Like where this build is headed , always loved this kit ! I know it's period correct , but I was never a fan of the white walled tires , personal taste and all that ! Great kit , start , and work thus far , keep it rollin' !
  16. All of Larry Davis' books . Photos , text , and invaluable information from a man who was there for the golden age of drag racing !
  17. Cragars ..... AMT kits , ' 37 Chevy , ' 40 Ford sedan , '65 El Camino , ' 49 Ford convertible . Revell ...... ' 68 Dart & Charger , ' 37 Ford Coupe . All you have to do is ask around here . There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of years of modeling knowledge amongst the members on this forum !
  18. Yep ! Now , if I could just find where Calvin and Hobbes hid the Transmorgifier , I could transmorgifie 4 copies of myself to work on them . I'd be in like Flint then ! Lol !
  19. Who says you can't ? Lol ! Not that hard to learn , believe me ! Thank you for your compliment and thanks to everyone else for their kind comments . They are greatly appreciated !
  20. 15 to 20 are completely painted kits with 10 of those under some form of construction . 20 plus bodies in color , either waiting for clear or pearl coats . There are 25 to 30 kits completely prepped and ready for paint . I have 30 plus completed bodies in the travel boxes either destined to be built or sold at the shows . If one particular build gives me fits or I get tired of one task or another , I just find something else to futz with ! Therapy , anyone ????? Lol !
  21. Me too ! Two more due at the beginning of August , that'll make 4 for me ! I love it !
  22. And to think I've been doing this for years on this particular kit ? Lol ! Well , Geritol , once the spoiler goes on , I guess I'm in hose ! Thanks for the heads up , Grampa ! Much appreciated ! This crow tastes pretty good , Copper ! Lol !
