Rule # 1 " There's no crying in model building ", I said in my best Tom Hank's imitation . Hey , it's a constant learning process that we all face every single time you sit down at the bench . You recovered quite nicely and fixed it without settling for " just okay " . I love the color , the pearled frame looks good and once the motor is installed , they will compliment each other quite well . Make sure you eat plenty of aspirin ! When you get this month's consultation bill , your heart might be headed for the " big one " ! Lmao! Keep it rollin' , the Bird is looking fine ! -

Hey ! You got off lucky , all you had to sand was the engine assembly ! Wait till you have to do the whole kit , the air in the shop will be a nice indigo blue color in no time from all of your cussin ! Lmao ! I really like this ! The engine sits real pretty in the frame , you've gone the extra mile on this and it shows ! I'm lovin' this ! You're bein extra careful , while I , on the otherhand , am playin' slap dab at it ! What a flip flop , role playing wise ! Lol ! -
Jason, Nice start with a great kit ! Have fun with the sanding , every single part has mold lines ! Lol! You'll be cussin' in no time flat , but it's well worth the time and effort !

Weathering - feedback please
LoneWolf15 replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok ! Just needed to know. I've combined some of my technique with Virgil's . Difference being , I use flat enamels , if you can imagine that ! Lol ! The airbrush allows you to apply such a subtle touch when it comes to weathering , thus the reason for my initial question . Add earth toned pastel chalks to the mix and you've got it whipped ! -

Ron, Before I can offer any advice , I need to know whether or not you're using an airbrush on this . Sorry , stupid spell check ! Rob ! -

Soooo ? How much skin do you have left on your fingers after that bout with the sandpaper ! Personal preference on my part , I'd like to see a little bit less of a rearward tilt of the motor . I'd lower it in the front just a bit more . Otherwise , you're rolling in the right direction as far as I'm concerned ! As always , I'm looking forward to the color scheme ! -
Question for our Idaho modelers .
LoneWolf15 replied to LoneWolf15's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
G , Sorry , buddy ! She did not relay that important tidbit , wish she did . I'll email her back and ask ! Rich , Thank you ! I appreciate it ! -
A young lady emailed me at my website with a question that I need help answering . She indicated that she has built several models and wishes to join a club and also compete in contests in Idaho . I would appreciate any information you can provide me with so I can pass it on to this young lady . The Old Man

You can always go back and redo something that doesn't sit well with you , buildwise . Get stuck , not sure how to proceed ? Sit it off to the side within view as you work on other projects . More often than not , a solution to your problem will present itself as you work on another kit . Out of sight , out of mind seemed to cause a very large backlog of unfinished builds in my shop ! In all honesty , I thought they were starting to play the rabbit scenario on me , as in multiplying ten fold when I wasn't looking . I quit setting them aside a long time ago . Now I just apply that innate stubborn nature of mine and keep at it till it's done .

Nope ! Not at all ! Just Virgil and I doing the usual banter thing . Lol ! One thing I can always depend on ..... Is Virgil ! Now , as to which one of us is crazier , that depends on the method or the subject matter ! Seems as of late , we're taking turns ! Lol ! -

Well , it's the least I can do ! The last three baby sitters quit , your last keeper is walking around in a perpetual circle ..... Somebody has to watch over you , keep you from going astray , as you put it ! Lol ! -

Looking at the latest pictures ..... A cut down windshield , maybe ? Also , drilled holes in the deck to allow the roll bar to go down into the body ? As D indicated , this might help it pass the tech inspection ! -
I meant the black one ! Lol ! Any more shine off that orange one and it would be labeled a hazard to ones eye sight !

I would go with a smaller diameter roll bar here , a wee bit too thick for my tastes , Virgil . Rob , The cammer is well cast , problem being , it's been repopped so many times that the chrome is too thick . Once stripped and sanded , a little Alclad or metallizer brings it right to the forefront. Looking forward to the progress on this one ! -
Brian , Thank you ! High praise coming from someone who is as talented as you are ! Maybe we can borrow some of Virg's ADD , install it in you , then you'll be able to finish all of your projects in about 20 minutes ! Lol ! Virgil , I would love to see that '55 with an Antique Silver pearl overlay ! Hint , hint !
-
Best to pour a really tall one , Jim ! Rumor has it , this is going to take awile ! The ADD is in full swing and The Crankster is on a roll ! Pearls , flakes , and paint are flyin' , and he's waaaay too happy with all of it ! Just breaks my heart that I created such a monster ....... Not ! Keep it rollin' , Virgil , you're doing it all justice!

Charlie , I was raised by a Marine and a full blooded Scotswoman . The rules were few , simple to understand , and strictly enforced ! Step beyond the boundries ? You paid the price ! As far as I'm concerned , my mother invented the practice of using foreign objects for beatings ! None available or within reach ? She'd pick up one of your siblings and beat you with them ! Lol ! I would not change that upbringing for all the wealth in the world ! To this day , she'll still biff you upside the head for acting up in her " domain " , as we call it ! Fair , firm , and consistent , I adore both of them and still seek their council when I need advice !

The " white " thing is a navigational light , required by law . The green " thing " is an out board motor . Given the size , it appears to be between a 2 1/2 to 5 hp motor . A boat of this construction is worth a small fortune in this day and age , given the craftmanship that goes into it . Flags ? I can't vouch for too many other states , but Pa and the Tri state area do not require them for outboard water craft .
-
Please don't forget " modest " too ! Lmao !

Like it was yesterday... Eighteen years old telling him he was wrong ! Watched the eyes narrow , the steel cords in those forearms bunch , he poked me in the forehead with that finger , punctuating each single word ! " The older you get , the smarter that I'll get ! " Flash forward , years later , sitting on a wall with him , in between games of a tournament . Him sitting there smirking , watching the blood slowly ooze out of the wounds I'd earned that day ! " What are you smirking at , ya old goat , I asked ? " " Just wondering how smart I am these days , Boy ? " came the reply . " You've got Einstein beat , Hands down ! " " Now, put a lock on your lip and quit your gloating. " He threw his arm around my neck and put his forehead against mine and we laughed until the tears rolled down our faces ! Two weeks ago , I chewed Kathie's son , Patrick a new one ! Pointed at him and told him the older he gets , the smarter I get . Kathie walked around the corner to find me banging my head off the door . " What are you doing ? , she asked . " I sound , smack , just like , smack , my father ! " smack , smack ! I said . I stepped away from the door , grinned , and said , " I'm my Father's son " . Her answer , " And Patrick will be the better for it " . If I grow up to be half the man my father is , I will have accomplished much in my lifetime
