  1. Cato , My answer is an educated guess here , I'd say a minimum of a week , here's why ! You are using an unknown with the method . The biggest complaint about enamels is the flashout time involved , especially with the spray cans which is what you are using . If you were using the bottles cut with the cheap laquer thinner , 2 to 3 days ! As for mixing the clear in with your color coat , yes , you can . However , you need to be cautious here if it is a metallic or pearl color . A bit too much , and you'll suffer color slumps in the finish . If you follow the steps in the DVD to the letter , I can guarantee success . Any variation from the steps or products that I use is going to become a ###### shoot at best .

  3. Awww , man ! Pat , you didn't knock the method but you certainly muddied the waters , didn't you ? To clarify ... continuous mist coats produces a superior overall smooth glasslike finish . There is no dry or orange peeled finish involved . As for any attack on primer coats , impossible , as the method uses no primer whatsoever . Testors metallizer is used as a base under metallics and pearls for it's reflective quality . The cheap laquer thinner warms the enamel , allowing it to flow and lay down smooth , and dries quick and tight . Best part ? There is no chance of it attacking or affecting the plastic at the aforementioned ratio . The same ratio applys for the clear , I've taken the ratio to 50/50 with no adverse affects . It is a visual age that I refer to as the Doubting Thomas Syndrome , hence , the reason for the DVDs in the first place . Visibility lends to credibility .... Doubt it ? Check out my website , what I put on the vending tables , what goes on the show tables , there's my side of the argument . Don't knock it until you've tried it ! Cato , you need to lay continuous coats down until you achieve your desired color depth and smoothness . As for decanting , straight out of the can should work just fine , adding a small amount of cheap laquer thinner certainly won't hurt , especially when you're decanting Testors enamels . Hope this helps !
  4. Wrong ! This means we only have to drive for two hours to get to Cleveland rather than the six to get to Chicago ! Lmao ! The cost of the show are quite a bit cheaper in Cleveland as compared to Chicago also . For those attending , Kathie and I will be there in the Lone Wolf Custom Painting booth . Stop by and say hello !
  5. Met Terry for lunch today , did some catching up as to what's been going on with the respective businesses and to pick up some parts . After a bit of life's derailment , he is in the process of setting up his new shop and looking forward to producing quite a bit of new aluminum turned parts . He is also setting up a new website which should be up and running shortly . The aforementioned contact info is correct if you wish to talk to him . He also stated that he intends to resume vending at the shows , the first being the NNL East in April . It was great to see my friend and know that all is well , even better to know that he's going to continue supplying the hobby with an excellent product !
  6. If you use light mist coats with the laquer with the first few coats , you'll be fine . Me , I'll stick with the Testors clear top coat . I plan on giving the 1 shot wet look laquer a test run in the near future . Inquiring minds want to know ! Lol !
  7. Cato , The only color that I've ever had the enamel clear yellow on was white . Otherwise , not a problem . The only thing that I can figure is that my models are waxed on a regular basis due to show attendance and or the vending booth .
  8. MPC had alot of fantastic kits ! I remember walking to McCrory's five and dime and paying 99 cents a piece for the previous year's annuals. Kits that now go for hundreds of dollars a piece in today's market ! Talk about sticker shock ? Lol ! Wouldn't have traded it for the world , they built up quite nicely for their time and place . I find it hilarious when I hear guys griping about this and that kit in today's model world . Most have no clue , they would have gone berserk back then ! We were just thrilled to get new kits every year . The really sad part about it all ....... We are in a golden age right now when it comes to kits and most are totally oblivious to the fact .
  9. Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there !
  10. Two parts paint to one part cheap laquer ! Multiple mist coats . All my airbush work is done with Testors enamels with the regulator set at # 32 psi . Donn Yost
  11. Immediately spray your paint over the metallizer . The slight texture in no way affects the paint or the smoothness of it's surface . I have experimented with buffing the metallizer with a piece of cotton t shirt before painting , found there was no real difference with the end results . One draw back was the possibility of leaving fiber on the surface which necessitated rewashing the body before painting .
  12. I picked two up at the 3 Rivers Show on Sunday . To say that I'm extremely pleased with the kit would be an understatement ! Cut one up already , all of the parts are bagged for sanding . A bit of mold line on the trunk and below the roof on the upper portion of the rear quarters can be taken care of in no time . The hood needs a bit of fill in where the hinge mounts came through .Otherewise , it's a well done kit , well worth the money spent . First build will be pro street , next , who knows ? Anyone that bashes this kit needs another frontal lobotomy cause the first one didn't take !
  13. As in Belvedere ! Yeeeeaaaahhhh , Buddy !
  14. Hey Virg , You misunderstood my post ! Lol ! You made the comment in a previous post that I would be the one to shoot the enamel with the fenders on , been there , done that ! Yes , it can be done , however , it is soooo much easier to paint them separately , hence my comment !
  15. Got that shiny jones going on , eh ? Looking good , no doubt about that ! The Anthracite Grey looks great on the frame . I like the detail thus far too ! Oh , by the way ? No way on the fenders , separately shot then assembled , much easier that way ! Lol !
  16. Nice work ! Looks almost as old and decrepit as you are ! Lmao ! See you at 3 Rivers ?
  17. Now I understand why you've been quiet the last few days ! Lol ! Buried up to your earlobes in Delrays from what I see . Love the color and overall execution , the word elegant comes to mind here ! Beautiful , Virgil !
  18. Neither is your German ! Lmao !
  19. You worked your behind off on this one and it paid off big time ! Color , stance , detail , etc , are spot on ! If they only knew how close it came to being a spot on the wall , more than once ! Proud of you !
  20. If we broke out the pitchforks and torches for every perceived " abomination " that's been produced , there wouldn't be a kit left on the planet . From what I've gathered after reading both threads , the majority lie in two camps . One doesn't care what scale it's produced in , the other says 1/25th scale . Pretty plain to me that the verdict is in . You can rail at the machine all day long , it's not going to change . I gave Dan the best advice I could give on the subject , based on thought and past experience as did others . Where it leads , is any body's guess . You build 1/24th scale models , I don't . That is your niche , as you put it , but it's not mine . I don't begrudge you this , your cars are all about you , and well they should be . Afford me the same courtesy and we'll just agree to disagree .
  21. Think of the hobby first ! How can we help a new release succeed ? The question was asked and answered as to what scale was preferred . The standard in the US is 1/25th , has been since the start . If the 'Cuda is researched and done up correctly , released in 1/25th scale , and marketed properly , it will sell in far more appreciable numbers than it's counterpart scale . Generational thing ? Nope ! Reality ! Either that or I've been staring at the shelves or sitting too close to the orange and white tube for the last 55 years of my life . Not a chance !
  22. I really shouldn't be teasing around about all the sanding that's involved here . Reason being , I will have another one of these to start in the near future that will have to be ready for April ! Eddie Fluck body , AMT kit components . Lucky me !
  23. Say the word ! I'll need a bit of notice but we're up for it ! Paint up here , we'll put them in the flashout cabinet , let them dry , ship them out later on ! Paint season is right around the corner , Virg ! I'll be buried in there for weeks , company is always welcome , smoking light is lit ! Lol !
