  1. Pastrami on a hamburger?? Well, no need to add salt to that (I don't, anyway, as a rule.) One of my friends ordered country-fried steak when we were out to dinner Wednesday. She immediately dumped half the salt shaker on that and her french fries before even trying it. She'd take that burger and do the same thing. Charlie Larkin
  2. Hopefully, this will be corrected in subsequent runs. In the meantime, looks like GlossCote is your friend, or the Krylon acrylic Crystal Coat. Charlie Larkin
  3. Good to know about the suspension. Very nice work on this, Mike. I'll look forward to seeing it somewhere along the circuit. Charlie Larkin
  4. John, I'm very impressed with the chassis detail you've done. The rest of the build is looking good, too. I'm hoping to see this at NNL, even if it's on the WIP table. Charlie Larkin
  5. Hmmm...I may try Al-Clad for Kitty I's brightwork. I didn't think it would work that well on big pieces like that. Charlie Larkin
  6. I will say, from the build-up I'm watching, this is an excellent model. I'm seriously considering getting one of these if one of the jobs I'm in pursuit of happens. If this is an example of their product, they deserve my money. Yes, I'd like 1/25 better, but I can still make this work- those things are so big, you'd hardly notice the difference anyway. Charlie Larkin
  7. I wonder if transparent blue and green might work, followed by a wash of thinned white or some kind of pearlescent finish. As those jugs are more translucent than transparent, it might look better, as they're not crystal clear. Charlie Larkin
  8. This'll be a nice project. Charlie Larkin
  9. Believe me, Joe, I understand what you're saying, and if it were my car, I'd probably be less-than-happy, too. But, at least in this part of the world, so many of the people that drive these so-called "Earth-friendly cars" are such nasty, arrogant jerks, that watching horrible things happen to Priuses, Insights, Smarts and similar cars is something I revel in- perhaps a bit much. About the only group that seems immune to this stupidity are the folks with Minis. Generally, they're very courteous drivers. Say...on the subject of dioramas, is someone making a kit of these things? Charlie Larkin
  10. Not nice at all, but hilarious just the same! Charlie Larkin
  11. Just took a look at the main page and the engine assembly. That does look nice. Yes- VERY expensive. And yes, very good. I'm definitely interested in picking one of these up. Charlie Larkin
  12. You're not the only one, Tony. There- the argument- for authenticity's sake, GM MUST approve kits! Charlie Larkin
  13. A sledgehammer and some torching??? Charlie Larkin
  14. Corned beef on a hamburger??? That's...different. We'll probably be using the grill sometime in the next couple of weeks. I have a huge amount of stuff to get out of the freezer. Charlie Larkin
  15. Absolutely spectacular, Brad. Another reason to get out there and visit sometime- to see your builds up close. Where did you find that inkjet-friendly fabric? I like that blanket. Charlie Larkin
  16. Devious...I like it. Actually, I showed my dad some of the deals they could get there- they're thinking of escaping semi-permanently, and that might end up happening. As I have no family of my own, just a few very close friends, a solo weekend trip probably wouldn't be that tough to pull off. If I can get things to where I want them to be, the idea of becoming bi-address isn't a bad one either. Charlie Larkin
  17. That would explain $1000. Then again, he did say "don't bid," and probably made a silly price to discourage stupidity. Watch- an even bigger meth-head will bid $2000 for it. Wonder if he'll include the whole kit if that happens? Charlie Larkin
  18. Very nice job opening stuff up and on the interior. Charlie Larkin
  19. Sorry for the bit of the long lead-in, fellas. Last week was April Fool's week, never mind just one day, but now that all the fires are out, I can resume my regular boredom! There are a lot of reasons I build model cars. But, one of the reasons I've started to become as active in the hobby's social aspect is that I can honestly say I have met some of the nicest, most thoughtful people in this hobby as I have anywhere else. Greg Wann happens to be one such individual. He had offered to cast me a few of the little odds-and-ends I needed for Kitty I (It'll become self-explanatory shortly,) an offer I graciously accepted, with the understanding that it might be a bit before he got to it. No biggie, I build at a sub-glacial speed anyway. I was NOT expecting this! Greg VERY kindly sent along a near-complete kit, save for a couple of bits I'm ordering from The Modelhaus. Last Monday, I received a body, chassis, interior tub, both the chromed road and full wheel covers, and plenty of interior parts. Had a bit of trouble with focus on this one. I'll try again later with more light. Guys, Greg's casting is EXCELLENT. It's as good as Don Holthaus, DRAG, Hendrix or any of the other reputable casters, if not better. Given that and his character, I implore upon all of you to please give him business! This car will be Kitty II. Last Friday, I was sending out more resumes when the mail came, and I went to get it, and sitting at the door was another box from Greg. I was wondering "what on Earth else could he have sent?" I received the original car used for the casting of Kitty II, along with the instruction sheets in photo-copy and a copy of the original decal sheet, which is kinda cool to look at. To say the least, I could've been knocked over with a feather. Over the years, I've seen little gestures of goodwill and kindness amongst us all. A few spare parts here and there, encouragement when your meisterwerk is failing miserably, or when time comes and humanity dictates that we need a friend for other reasons. I've also seen a lot of folks donate kits to other modelers who lost things due to fires, and to kids who wanted to start in the hobby. This, however, was completely unexpected. I'll never be able to thank Greg enough for these great gestures, and I promise to make the most of all three of these models I can. I'm now re-strategizing my building plans, and that will be coming sooner rather than later, probably after NNL-East, when I have most of the rest of the parts. This is the original '64 I received. It only needs the driver's side exhaust manifold, and I think I can scrounge that out of one of my other Buick engines, or something that'll look good, anyway. Presenting Kitty III Again, sorry for the rotten pictures- for some reason, I can't get that camera to focus well lately, leading me to wonder if the electronics are on their way out. I'll try again with my compact 35mm instead of the digital, along with some more in-progress photos. Charlie Larkin
  20. I wish my "threw together" models looked that good. Charlie Larkin
  21. Everything Mike said. If you want it to happen, it will happen. All you need to do is block the time to do it. Charlie Larkin
  22. Yeah, no way I'm scraping together time enough to drive or money enough to fly down this year. Perhaps someday. Either that, or perhaps someone can be talked into permanently moving dates? Actually...you folks have another show down there sometime in the fall, don't you? I'll figure out something some year. Charlie Larkin
  23. Sorry, folks, my weekend and the couple of days prior went completely topsy-turvy on me. Pictures ARE coming, I promise. Del- thanks for the tip. Greg- well....define "okay." A lot of professionals question just how okay I am! Charlie Larkin
  24. And that air-cleaner ended up on a lot of cars because it's so cool looking. As to color, Jake, here's are the interior choices: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Buick/1969_Buick/1969_Buick_Brochure/1969%20Buick-10.html Here are the exterior colors: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Buick/1969_Buick/1969_Buick_Prestige_Brochure/1969%20Buick%20Prestige-72-73.html And some better representations. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1969-Buick-pg01.jpg Silver with black might be a nice choice for this. Or Azure Blue with a white interior. Charlie Larkin
